Well yeah, two sides of the same coin.

The question is whether that's because Vessel videos are higher quality (at a given resolution) or because they use less efficient compression.

You're absolutely right, I've managed forums previously... Most likely not on the scale of this one (8,000 members max) It's a hard job and the admins don't get enough credit.
People want a democracy on sites like these yet cry for dictatorship to get rid of the "pests" a LOT of the time blame is placed on the admins for the actions of other people. People don't realize that Admins aren't here to be police, therapists AND judges. Admins are here to make sure we're up and running correctly and there are no major issues and in their free time help out the community.
I really don't understand the online mentality. IRL you may call the cops if someone hits you... BUT would you blame them for letting you get hit in the first place?
The best course of action any user can take is to talk to a staff member about their ideas and feelings of how things are and should be, and, to do their due diligence and let the admins know when/where there may be a problem they missed.
I haven't been here very long, and, I don't post as often as I should ( Can't stand tapatalk and I'm always on mobile) BUT I still appreciate you admins and all you do for us. Keep up the good work
Thank you for taking the criticism so well  That's always a plus

Might as well give my two cents on the matter. I've been here pretty much from day one and, from what I can tell, we he have a thread like this every month or two and, to be honest, a lot of it is understandable. The unfortunate thing is that this is something you can't really do much against. It is a by-product of insta-growing to one of the biggest tech forums online.

I actually have a theory about this effect. In the beginning, the only people signing up are people that got sent here by Linus' videos after being a subscriber on youtube. Those people usually come here with the idea of being a member of the community. They also got the core values, the thing this forum should be in Linus' mind, delivered to them through Linus' mind. Hence, these people actively built towards what they signed up for: an active and friendly community.

Now, over the time this thing gets bigger and bigger and starts attracting people through other channels. These channels often are search engines. From these channels you also get active and friendly members, but also some of the less active and/or less friendly members. Lots of members sign up just to ask a question about a problem they're having at that very moment. Nothing more, nothing less; so you can't correlate member size with activity. These member also usually don't read the CoC (let's be honest, does anyone ever before signing up for something?) or the stickies, so wrong subforums and/or crossing of the CoC is bound to happen.

About the crappy mentality some are perceiving: IME, it isn't actually much worse than it used to be -- relatively speaking. Because the forum is so much busier than it used to be, there just is more crap in total volume, even though the percentage has remained roughly the same. At the same time, because there are more one-question posters and new members, there's more opportunity for people to get angry at mistakes that happen. this might make it seem there's more hostility, while it's actually only the opportunity for hostility to emerge that has grown.

I don't know if I'm right about any of this. I don't imply any such thing, but this is what I noticed over the 2+ years I've been here.

TL;DR This is what you get when you get big. We can try to do something about it but most of it you can't control without turning into a police state and ruling by pure force, something which we don't want at all and wouldn't even work (even if we wanted to), given that people have no obligation to stay here.

If you truly want change your best bet really is to PM Slick to discuss it, the forum's his baby and he's the guy to talk to.

EDIT: The Beta version of the Android app is now live, so this is out-dated. If you experience problems with the app, you can still attempt this method.

I've found a way to get vessel to work with Android using Dolphin Browser.
You'll need to go to vessel.com go to the settings on Dolphin and switch to desktop mode in order to sign in. once you load the main page it will be broken and mostly blank, wait a minute for it to load then tap on the screen at random to load a video link you couldn't see, as soon as you hear it start playing tap the settings again and switch to android /mobile mode and refresh the page.

That should load the video and page. To get full screen to work, tap on the video ad at the beginning. It will open a new tab and pause the video. You'll be able to click the full screen button once you tab back.

    Tested on android 5.0.2

They do. Someone doing live captions (for example) doesn't have have time to press shift for " + " or " * " every time. Or accountants or something else like that. TKL keyboards are cool, but not for typists.
