is ti me or are the gpu coolers this year just not as good as last year
MC_loud replied to joe_p231's topic in Graphics Cards
This generation's cards are so freaking ugly. So much RGB on everything. -
Whenever a new Intel chipset tempts me to upgrade. Saying "rebuild" would be the wrong term however since it's pretty much just the CPU and motherboard getting replaced. I buy 1 or 2 high end graphics card(s) every generation and everything else remains the same, unless I decide to go full blown watercooling or the next time SSDs get a big price drop (in which case I'll replace my WDs with 2 1TB Samsung drives)

How long do you keep your rig before you replace EVERYTHING?
MC_loud replied to JoeBTN's topic in General Discussion
This is what I normally do. I bought a GTX 780 last April and sold it for $350 a week before Maxwell came out. Then I bought a GTX 970 at launch for the same price I sold my 780 for. Now I gotta sell my mobo, CPU, and RAM for a new Skylake build :^) -
Who is the fanatic, really? Yes, it's one of those threads again

Yeah the first thing I thought of when reading the first post was "Damn what a way to start a civilized conversation." -

Anyways I have a GTX 970 as well and most games run with playable framerates at 1440p

You're joking, right?

So are different peoples' opinions on monitors. The only person you can trust is yourself.

Getting rid of S6 Edge, what phone to get?
MC_loud replied to I Hendrycks I's topic in Phones and Tablets
I'll trade you my beat up S2 lol Most of these answers you will get will be based on preference, like how I'd recommend the OnePlus One -
I should've been more clear and said that I hadn't seen a UHD monitor and not just a UHD display (I've seen the 50+ inch displays a few times and are gorgeous compared to Full HD ones). And there aren't a whole lot of electronics stores besides Best Buy here and they don't tend to show off a lot of 4K monitors besides the occasional professional displays that are way to expensive for my tastes, so I never really give them a complete observation. (there's a Microcenter, but it's in the ghetto-y part of town ). Also I wasn't trying to give advice. I was just saying that 1440p is sharp enough for my tastes so having 4K with the same screen size wouldn't affect me in any way besides having to spend more money on GPU power to keep games at that high of a res. Sorry if I made it seem as though everyone should take my own view as fact lol.

I can't give a proper argument on QHD vs UHD/4K having never experienced 4K, but like I said, the latter would hold it's own at 34 inches, meanwhile QHD has a "sweet spot" at 27 inches. It gets to the point where having a higher resolution at the same screen size is pointless. Also isn't 5K DSR just 200% resolution scale? I'd rather have 1440p with either FXAA or 2xMSAA with FXAA being the favorable option. This is why I'm caught in a flux in deciding between a single X34, which would give me good framerates in a lot of titles with an SLI of whatever Nvidia's next high-end card is, or three of the PG279Q's for increased immersion, but theoretically less than half the framerates of a single X34 for an additional $1000 or so.

Why is there no Turnip option?
-
Meh QHD is already so sharp. If they were to do that, it'd have to be at least 32 inches, or ideally 34 inches for it to make sense. Too me, however, I see Ultra-Wide as the future and not 4K.
