Hey guys, My buddy's laptop was so fucked with malware (pop ups everytime you opened anything, even on desktop) the computer was so slow i would have pulled my hair out trying to remove it. Naturally, i installed a fresh blank copy of win 7 for him. However the laptop is so old im having trouble finding drivers for his intel P6100 cpu, the intel support page just doesn't seem to have them. Also generic wifi drivers i usually use on peoples fresh installs are not working either. If anyone thinks they can help me out that'd be awesome best,

crap i didnt see that and just flipped around the front fans as exhaust ? would the same principle apply ? i have the rad now configured as an intake, front fans as exhaust. i will remove side fan

okay, I dont really know anything about anything when it comes to overclocking, can you guys walk me through what settings i shuold fuck with and which i should leave in the BIOS ? I'm planning to upgrade to intel when i have the money, but i don't atm.

hey guys, never overclocked before, and in 2015 im definetly feeling like my 8320 at stock speeds is bottle knecking my 290x (liquid cooled). this was my first build and i did it when i was 17, however when building it I unknowingly created a big disparity between parts. I thought it was most important to maximize GPU power, and any old cpu would due . Will an overclock remove some of the bottleneck ? Also, does anyone know where I would go to read up on how to overclock ? I watched Jayz2cents "beginner" video on fx overclocking and I still don't feel comfortable doing so.

I recently liquid cooled my 290x via PCPer tutorial, however I am experiencing VRM temps so high under stress test that i am unable to achieve a stable clock. I was thinking about getting the GELID VRM cooling kid which adds a beefy heatsync to VRM 1 and 2 but i was unsure about the clearence room in the Kraken G10 braket for such a cooler. If anyone has encountered the same problem with VRM temps after liquid cooling 290x hit me up with suggestions here.

hey guys, ive recently installed a corsair h55 on my gpu with the kraken g10, i need help optimizing airflow as the only place in my case i could mount it was in the back (clearence issues with the top rad slots). i have 2 intake fans in the front, which i was thinking i could turn into export fans, as i have the rad in the back pushing in air. I was also thinking i could keep the front ones as intake (as there a bitch to access) and turn my side fan (which i dont really need for intake cooling anymore now that gpu is water cooled) into my only export fan. I'm sorta new and I'm sure you guys have better ideas than me, so ide appreciate your input! my case is a corsair 550 t, i have a cpu that is not liquid cooled.

thanks guys, i ran stress tests but stopped them as i saw vrm reach 100. my card is still alive, lol. will get on that.

hey guys, After installing a corsair h55 with a kraken g10 liquid cooling bracket (fan over vrm to cool vrm) ive noticed pretty high VRM temps in the 100 range when running furmark. is this okay ? or should i seek better cooling, sounds like a silly question but this 290x likes to get hot so idk. core temps are great since liquid cooling however.

I just checked, i couldnt find that setting. i turned EPU on but it was happening while it was both on, and off. so i suspect it is your setting. i will do further research and see where i can find that setting you spoke of.

@Arc_jester, was it the EPU power saving "on" that caused it to wake up, or if its off does it wake up ? just trying to clairfy, as my motherboard does have those features.

ya its nothing like a wake from sleep thing. I run a full desktop on windows 8.1, and after a true shutdown (power off, not in sleep mode) it will wake itself up from being powered off and run the bios screen and then proceed into windows. il check the bios settings.

after turning off my computer, it turns on like 20 minutes after, on its own. wtf.

ignore all this flame above: if you want your card to run really quiet and cool you would go for the 970 (at a price premium), the 970 also has a way higher core/mem clock (ref 290x is only able to sustain about 1GHZ under OPTIMAL cooling conditions, and even under great cooling conditions will still thermal throttle and go underneath the rated 1GHZ mark) The 290x and 290 will be able to be found at up to 100 dollars cheaper then the 970, at the cost of lower clocks, higher heat output, and more noise. (the flame war with AMD having a full 4GB is stupid and it isnt something that will affect your performance 99 percent of the time.)

ya haha i use the shitty cooler that came with it and mine are a little worse than that, so your temps sound about right (usually with like an intel part you would prob be idling in the 20's but this AMD chip pulls a lot more electricity, therefore creating a lot more heat)

Ya you should be fine, like maybe in a couple of years you will need an upgrade but in most modern games it will be fine.

Hey guys, im in a second year African history class and it caught me off guard through trying to be a geography class. I need to create a map of Africa and label some tribes, highlands, etc. So ya if you guys know what the best program is to generate a map or just sorta draw with for this purpose i would greatly appreciate it.

dude i pretty much just game in 1080p, like the only problems i have are with my cpu and thermal throttling. are you sure its worth an upgrade on the gpu side so soon ? i thought i would be better to switch to a stronger intel build.

hey forum ! Overview of Situation/Questions: I am looking to make a couple upgrades in my PC and i was wondering what the order in which i should upgrade would be best. i have an 8320 which causes me a lot of greif in any DX 11 game, however in BF4 mantle it all works fine. I was considering liquid cooling my CPU first to see if it would increase my performance in DX 11 with an OC. however as it can be assumed that most games in 2015 will support mantle/dx12, I'm considering upgrading the GPU first. Disclaimer: I am a new water cooler so I would love to hear some comments about the difficulty level of installing a new cooler, and also what the best parts to use are.

Hey Newbie, Steam OS is still in a very early build and you would really have to be savvy with Debian (linux distro that it runs off of) if anything were to go wrong. My roommate is a computer science major and he primarily uses Ubuntu. Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro with the heaviest support. That being said a lot of applications will not be supported on Ubuntu: ex. Adobe Photoshop, or pretty much any triple A game. If you're heart-set on trying Linux you may as well give Ubuntu a try.
