if it's the CPU you already have I wouldn't worry about a bottleneck.

though the 1660 super/TI is often barely more expensive than the 1660, I recommend the slight price increase

CommandMan7 reacted to FaxedForward in AMD RX 6800XT AIB synthetic benchmarks: Pure rasterized faster than RTX 3080, RT on par with RTX 2080 Ti
3DMark, Firestrike, Time Spy, and Port Royal benchmarks are now appearing for the AMD Radeon RX 6800XT Navi 21 AIB models. The 6800XT is the only AIB model at this time, the higher end 6900 or XTX (final name unknown) that is exclusive to AMD has not yet been thoroughly benchmarked.

If these numbers are accurate, it seems like AMD will have a truly competitive offering for the first time in many years. The inferior RT performance is not terribly surprising given AMD's new support of the feature, but that is likely not a deal breaker for many PC enthusiasts. Of course, the major question is price. If AMD asks 3080 money for the 6800XT, the reception may not be great. However, if it's $100-200 less, AMD may have a winner on its hands.

CommandMan7 reacted to Spotty in Stadia Creative Director Triggers Uproar on Twitter
Not going to happen. Games are paying streamers to play their games. Popular streamers are effectively giving an 8 hour ad fort the game in front of 10s of thousands of current viewers. If a developer came out and said that if you want to stream their game you'll need to pay them a fee the streamers would just play something else and the game would get very little coverage on game streaming platforms, not to mention the bad PR. No developer is stupid enough to be the first to do that.

Game developers could be smart about streaming though and build in to their game mechanics for streamers to utilise to generate money, which the developers could take a cut from with partnership with popular streaming platforms (Twitch). Look at what Borderlands 3 did with "echocast" where viewers can pay to trigger events in game such as giving rewards or spawning enemies.

Developers should embrace streaming. Not tax it.

It's so hilarious people yet again going like "omg greedy Apple" yet it's the India smacking ridiculous "luxury" taxes on tech products making them absurdly expensive. Yet everyone rushes to piss on Apple because you're not cool if you're not endlessly pissing on Apple these days. How old are you all, 8 ?

CommandMan7 reacted to justpoet in Honda and JPL create a new type of battery that could be the future of EVs
Power distribution is…."interesting".  Interesting in a "why the heck is it this bad?" kind of way.  EV's make sense cost-wise if you're commuting a reasonable distance every day, but can still do it on a single charge for the day.  They especially make sense financially if you have solar or wind power at your residence (solar becoming quite common), provided you can charge the car while the panels are producing well, rather than at night.

Those are a lot of gotchas and if's.  So, everybody's situations are different.  As somebody in the US where gas is cheap, a 50 mile commute (which isn't too uncommon, but is slightly further than average), puts my wife and I in a great spot for something like a Hyundai Kona or Ioniq, except that we can't get them because we're not in Cali.  The similar combustion car is a little cheaper (only 1k-2k after tax incentives), but electricity, even bought from the grid, will pay the difference in a few years at most with today's low gas prices ($2.30'ish per gallon where I am).  If you consider a lifespan of 10 years on the car, it's definitely cheaper…and you also have none of the normal ICE maintenance to do, such as coolant flushes, oil changes, spark plug swaps, etc, and you'll replace brakes far less often thanks to regenerative braking.

EV's aren't for everybody, or every situation, for sure.  Once tax credits go away, they become a LOT harder value proposition.  But if it is a commuter car and you're going a reasonable distance, they often work out with the financials in their favor right now, even without solar or similar, which makes them WAY cheaper in the long term when you compare new to new.
