  1. EVGA G2 because it's the only PSU I've ever had.
  2. I need to essentially interview a practicing engineer for a paper I have been asked to write for one of my classes for school. Would any of you folks on LTT like to volunteer? I know there are some engineers out there in the community. I've got about 15-20 pretty simple questions I just need to ask. I'll need your name and company you work for (since it isn't really acceptable to write a college paper using an internet username as my interviewee and mystery company), so if you aren't comfortable giving that then I suppose you know not to volunteer. Just let me know if you would be up to it and I'll drop my questions into your messages sometime today when I get back on. An aerospace engineer would be preferred since that's what I'm studying to be, but anyone who is willing to help is more than welcome! Thanks.
  3. Okay. Change in plans. Turns out the 390 is no longer on sale, so I'm having him go with a 970 as well as the PSU you recommended. Think it looks good? 4. Power draw is 425. I suppose in any case 550W will be enough.
  5. I believe the Sapphire is a bit more expensive, as the PowerColor is on sale by like 30 bucks and I never hear particularly bad things about the brand. I could be wrong though. Regarding the PSU, I was thinking the same thing but a 550W EVGA GS is only $5 less. Figured I'd go for the higher wattage. Do ya think it would be wise to go with 550 anyways?
  6. After reading around on the internet this seems to be the case. I'll let him know. Thanks for the input.
  7. Just to clarify, are you talking about the 6500 or 6400? My lists that I have here consist of the 6400 because it's cheaper. How does that compare to the 4460? I could recommend him the 6500 seeing as how it's only 15 bucks more, but I don't know how open he is to going nearly $50 over budget (probably more once shipping and taxes come into play). Hence why I was mainly comparing the 6400 and 4460.
  8. Helping my buddy build a computer. The most intensive thing he'll be doing on it is gaming. His initial goal was to stay under $600, but now it's more likely staying as close as possible to $700. After a bit of alteration, I think I've got a fairly good build down. Would anyone make some last minute alterations before I tell him he's good to start purchasing? This originally started as a 6400 vs 4460 thread and evolved into something else. Rather than making another topic I'm just editing my OP. Thanks folks.
  9. Wow. I'll definitely have to let my buddy thats shooting for a $600 computer know about this.
  10. Last time I used it Pandora didn't allow you to play individual songs, unlike Spotify. Maybe this has changed though?
  11. I'm not thinking so unfortunately. He still needs a case as well.
  12. That's not too bad actually. I tried to do the exact same thing before posting this and couldn't get it under 650. Thanks.
  13. My buddy wants me to pick him out some parts. He wants to do 1080p gaming on high as much as possible with 60fps. He knows he'll have to bump down settings sometimes but he just wants the best thing possible for gaming essentially. He won't be overclocking anything at all, so there's that. This is what I have so far. He has his own peripherals already. If anyone has anything they'd change or improve upon (or a different build entirely let me know). I have to seriously stress though that he really doesn't wanna spend $700, so the lower the better. $650 is probably his ideal maximum.
  14. My university uses a Linux OS for the computers in the CS engineering labs, so there's that.
  15. Going off of what people have said here since the 980Ti's release, it seems like the people that are the most satisfied with their 980Tis are the Zotac and MSI owners. As for exactly why, it probably comes down to overclockability, low noise levels, low heat, etc. I can't tell you exactly what the differences are because I don't have a 980Ti and never ended up actually shopping for one.
  16. I don't like gamer designs, but I don't mind out of left field unique designs (i.e. Sennheiser HD 800) that don't make you look like a complete goofball.
  17. Seems right I think. And that Cryorig H7 is the best budget cooler on the market right now in my opinion.
  18. While nothing I'm about to say is an attempt to start an argument with you (you responded with a courteous response, which is more than what most people on this forum would do, I respect that) I'd like to just point out a statistic and say some more on the topic to prove a sort of point. I'm sure it's nothing you haven't heard before though. Vehicle deaths in the US for 2014 was ~32,700 people. Firearms related deaths totaled about 12,600 according to this source I found. Now there are probably some reasons for this i.e. not everyone and their mother owning a firearm in the US, unlike vehicles, yadda yadda yadda, but there are so many people who the media and leftist gov't have scared the shit out of people and have tricked them into believing firearms are evil. Like you said, guns are the tools and it's the person behind the trigger doing the killing. If I run someone over, that car isn't responsible for the killing. If I kill someone with a hammer, the hammer isn't at fault. You get my point. It isn't the gun's fault. It's the persons fault. The present day US has turned firearms into a societal problem where lack of responsibility and general safety of the public isn't at the hands of the citizens themselves, it's rather the work of a firearm--an inanimate object; it's an inanimate object that is 100% safe if you have the proper, incredibly simple, training on how to handle it. If you can work a safety and not point at things you don't plan on shooting and keep your finger off the trigger unless you plan on pulling it on one firearm, then you can do it with them all. As for why people want true assault weapons (which is a fully automatic weapon. Some people don't even know that much) and other semi-automatic firearms, well I believe everyone has their own reasons, but I have two in particular. 1) because owning an automatic weapon is like owning a sports car. Seriously. People buy Challenger Hellcats over Darts because they're more fun to drive. Same thing with automatics assuming you just throw lead down range. 2) This is the important one. In the case that the government ever attempts to infringe on the rights of the people, you better believe that automatic weapons will be the peoples' best chance at reclaiming their rightful power. When the gov't has assault rifles, the people won't even stand a snowball's chance in Hell with bolt action hunting rifles, shotguns, and pistols. You're probably correct in terms of not needing them for typical self defense. Firstly because if you're in a home defense scenario there's nothing better that'll stop someone without over penetrating and potentially hitting innocents on the other side of the wall than a 12ga. shell full of buckshot. Second, if you're in a life threatening situation on the streets and you're carrying there's really only one option and that's a pistol because you can't carry around a rifle or shotgun in public without disturbing people and becoming a target yourself. Nonetheless, we all have our own different opinions. While I don't agree with yours based on what you said about being a Democratic Socialist, I respect your opinions and beliefs and I certainly respect you not trying to throw them down my throat and/or condemning me for having different views and values.

Ah found it. Doesn't seem to be too extremely active, though I guess that's not too surprising. Thanks my man.
  20. Are there any firearms threads around here? Did a quick forum search and didn't find any.

Can't believe I'm thousands of posts deep into LTT and never thought to wander around for one.

  21. Well I'll be damned. This is exactly what I say when libtards say they want to get rid of assault and semi automatic rifles.
  22. I'd go with an M5 out of the two. While I think Challengers are bad ass cars M5s are more tame and classy and much more suited to proms. Just remember--girls like comfortable rides, heated seats, and sophisticated looking machines; not sporty rough suspensions where you're practically one with the road and super loud exhausts and burnouts. Also ask yourself, which one would be easier to get laid in? My bet is on the M5.
  23. M3s are absolutely legendary. I wouldn't go with an Audi because the only high schoolers I've seen drive those are utter tools who want people to think they are car people.
  24. There are not scripters in every game, it is worth playing, I never thought the amount of intrusive scripters were that bad to ever begin with. Most of them that I've come across just spawn color changing busses that fly around in the sky.
