  1. Yes, yes and yes. It wasn't clear in my OP, but this build is still in an early planning phase. No components have been bought yet, though the two systems part is definitely set. I'll have a custom distribution plate/reservoir machined by a local shop for those A E S T H E T I C S. If all else fails, I guess I'll have to live with that. Any recommendations on that front? Am I likely to look at subscription services or one time purchases? Freeware even? Is there potentially a more refined way of switching inputs on the display without going into its settings menu? Like an Alt+Tab only for switching from GPU1 to GPU2 signal? I'd be fine with that, as both systems could be used without adding another display. Thanks for the many replies by the way!
  2. TL;DR I want the aesthetic benefit of having two independent systems with them behaving like one. One screen. One keyboard. One mouse. One OS.
  3. Ok, thank you for the insight. I will go so far as to say that pulling some kind of RAID move which merges two physical mainboards into one digital unit is, well... Quite hard to pull off, I would imagine. Would be awesome, though, especially with Windows 10 Pro already supporting two physical CPU's. It really was about having the two systems behave like one, without a dual screen setup or anything like that. (Aesthetics are based solely on the mainboards facing away from each other by the way.) My thought was if they ran on the same OS on the same drive I could have one pushing pixels in games while the other does, well... Stuff. Mostly look good, but maybe some rendering on the side.
  4. ...but could one potentially run two identical systems off of one storage drive so as to achieve a satisfactory aesthetic for their build while maintaining all the benefits of having one system? No joke. Planning a loop and for lack of symmetry when using only one decided to go with two motherboards. As I said, it's complicated. But is it possible? Let me know! Appreciate it.
  5. Edit: If you're brave you can also flash the US firmware with the UK or EU one to enable the fingerprint scanner:
  6. I know I'm kinda late to the party on this one, but you should seriously consider slightly older flagships when looking for cheap phones with a good feature set. My all time favorite has to be the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Might be because I'm a Sony fanboy and own 3 of those alone, but still. Reasons: 1 Its dirt cheap. You can find it for anywhere between 300 and 400€ in Europe, same goes for the US. Make sure to get the G8141 though, I'll mention why later. 2 Formidable battery life. Mine consistently get me through 2 days on a single charge. Also, quick charge is a nice touch. 3 64 GB onboard storage with micro SD expansion slot. 4 Headphone jack and some seriously good amps. 5 4K HDR10 IPS display. Nuff said. 6 Finger print scanner which is elegantly integrated into the power switch on the side. CAUTION: The sensor is disabled on US domestic market phones for some stupid legal reasons. This is why you need to look for the G8141, which is the European model on which this thing is activated. Shouldn't be too hard to find a deal on it. 7 Its glass all around, but quite chunky. It might be slippery for some people, but nothing a 10$ clear case couldn't fix. 8 It comes in freaking red! Look for the "Rosso" special edition. It was a JDM exclusive production run which swept over to Europe. Looks gorgeous in my opinion. Other options include standard dark bluish black and a chrome finish which serves as a backup mirror in case you need to check your hair on the go or want to blind an ISS crew member for some giggles. 9 You mentioned that the camera isn't important to you. Its still got a great camera regardless. It supports 1080p 60fps HDR and 4K video. It even has 1080p 960fps slow motion capabilities. 10 Did I mention it's a Sony? Tough, water and dust proof, just the lot. I personally love their "old-school" design with huge bezels and great front stereo speakers. Tastes are different though, so it might be a deal breaker for you if you're not into it as much as I am. Hope you find the right one that fits your needs. Cheers!
  7. Yeah, Im perfectly aware of that. Im hoping for the best of course, but it will show when I get to at least check with another GPU. Might need to retire this PC after almost 5 years... ?
  8. As stated above, I didnt OC. The newer cards have a stock clock of 1030mhz, while this is one of 250 which were sold by german retailer Caseking with 1060mhz stock. Im currently begging my friends if they can hand me down another GPU to test with though ?
  9. As I said above, I ran Kombustor and the CPU-Z stress test. GPU data looks weird doing it. Also in idle. GPU mem clock is jumping rapidly between 150mhz and 1400mhz right now.
  10. Sitrep: Letting it run in idle right now, Wattman showed a couple of spikes in memory frequency in the first 2 mins. Now all graphs are stable.
  11. Reasonable argument, but anything that doesnt involve spending money on to test would be preferable. ?
  12. Cooling should really not be the problem. CPU has a Dark Rock Pro 3 sitting on top of it, the Sapphire 290X is the best cooled card of its kind. I have the sidepanels open right now for troubleshooting, so even more airflow. Sadly, Asus only gives 3 years of warranty on this board, so that aint gonna happen. Had some bad experiences with their customer support anyways, so Im not expecting anything there.
  13. Nah, I only have my boot drive plugged in and thats an SSD
  14. Hello to everyone who takes the time to read through this infuriating story: First things first though, so here go specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Asus Rampage IV Black Edition BIOS Version 2.10.1208 i7 4930k 3.4ghz 4x4GB Kingston HyperX Beast 1866mhz CL10 DDR3 Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X 8GB 1060mhz (GPU) / 1400mhz (Mem) BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11 850W No OC Overvoltage protection on the wall outlet (in case of thunderstorms which have never happened) So, here goes nothing: A couple weeks ago I was browsing the internet when my screen suddenly went black and the PC fell silent. After about 2 secs it restarted by itself and showed this message: Power supply surges detected during the previous power on. Asus Anti Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply! Press F1 to run setup. I didnt think too much of it and went on with things, but right after relogging, the damn thing did it again. After that point the reset happened right after the BIOS flashscreen was over. So, three resets in short succession. Then a glimmer of hope: It worked through the Windows Startup Repair screen which had appeared. It did that all perfectly fine. It restored to a previous backup and I got through to log in. After 5 mins the same exact process began again: 3 resets, startup repair and so on. This pattern was and still is something I cant explain to me. My first guess: PSU has got to be at fault. Why else the message from the MB? So I file a warranty claim, RMA my Dark Power Pro 10 850W and BeQuiet go ahead and send me a brand new Dark Power Pro 11 850W. Here is what they found to be wrong with the old one after 4 1/2 years of running perfectly fine: P08/E10 - DC unstable Happy to have basically gotten a new next gen PSU for free, I went ahead and unplugged all the old cables and redid all the cablework for the new one. PC on, works great, update programs, works great, do backups, works great. And then: *click* *blackscreen* *reboot* *same message* It worked flawlessly for about 40 minutes. PC runs indefinitely when in the BIOS. Here is what I got from doing some basic research on the topic: I disabled Asus Anti Surge in the BIOS. It didnt help. PC shut down regardless. Different PSU: Kinda not necessary, except I should prove to be so unlucky that I got a defective unit from the factory. Different powerbar: Nothing. Different wall outlets for every component (PC, monitor, speakers). Nothing. All wires are properly plugged in, I even dusted the thing when I did the PSU swap. Here is whats up: It runs a bit more stable now, meaning it doesnt reboot after 5 mins but instead after 10. It hasnt yet crashed during startup. I managed to run some basic utilities like CPU-Z, MSI Afterburner, Kombustor and Radeon Settings. Something to note here: AMD Wattman was complaining about something after every reboot and showed that settings were reset after an error had occured. While Kombustor was running, I noticed that the GPU clocks were behaving eradically, jumping between 300mhz and 900mhz, but never reaching the desired 1060mhz. Voltage was also fluctuating. In idle the GPU memory clock would spike to 1400mhz for a couple of seconds and return to 300mhz right after. CPU stress test showed nothing special really. So, did my PSU kill something? Or did my GPU kill the PSU? Again? The PC is highly unstable when doing anything beyond the login screen, so it aint of much use to me as of right now... My next step would be to go around begging for a GPU to test if that is it. I havent yet done the whole "switching around the memory" thing, so I might give that a shot. Im really lost here, guys, Id appreciate your help. Cheers! zocki
