  1. Which driver do you mean? I have heard more about Asus ram problems, so I tried running memtest86, can't get past halfway of test 1 before it reboots haha
  2. Yeah the black/white Asus ROG STRIX x670E-A, the ram came in one package, although the box mentioned Intel Xmp the sales said they should work fine on AM5. I did the bios update first so didn’t have the chance to test anything, although it booted fine the first time.
  3. It is 2x32gb, it’s currently in 2/4 other configurations can’t boot sometimes. I haven’t changed anything so it’s running at the default 4800.
  4. On a 7800x3d, Asus x670-a, and g.skill 64gb Intel Xmp 6000/32 running at 4800. GPU not in yet. Nearly finished the build was just done installing Windows 11, after updating bios to the Aug. version, and had to reinstall all the network drivers. Booting up started to be slow with 5-10 seconds of orange mobo light, followed by 1 second of red, white then green each. At first it was 10-20 minutes between each random reboot, reminded me of mismatched ram. After checking/monitoring the temps and making sure everything else is running smoothly, reset the cmos, trying different ram configurations, the power cycling became more constant. Everything is connected to a rm1000x that works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. I saw there were some tier lists for CPU performance and the 5800x3d is even higher than the non-x3d 7000s for gaming, think I will upgrade ram and psu for now, and see if the x3ds of the end of the month warrant a complete build, if not the 5800x3d seems great performance for the price.
  6. Thank you for the suggestions, are 7900X3D and 7950X3D good options too? As they are going to be released this month instead of April for the 7800x3d.
  7. Thank you will do, are a lot of mid ATX cases at risk of not being able to fit the newer cards, or at the risk of having terrible airflow? Got it, will look into those. Thank you for the list, does that mean higher resolutions lessens the bottleneck on CPU? I see, it seems like the newer CPU and GPUs are pretty power hungry, 1000w seems the minimum if I add anymore down the line. It seems going from am4 to am5 is rather necessary if I plan to keep the build for as long as possible. Are the x3d CPUs different only in that they have more 3d cache for gaming?
  8. Budget (including currency): ~$3000-4000 CAD flexible Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: new/upcoming AAA titles, bit of every genre; anaconda, vsc, and other shenanigans. Other details : Just upgraded my monitor setup recently to 3440x1440p 144hz + vertical, might switch to 4k 144hz + vertical, currently on a 2nd hand 2060 with awful coil whine, thinking to upgrade to a 4090. Currently have some parts that I hope to reuse, but I heard the recent gen GPUs have severe CPU bottleneck so should I just start from scratch? Can I realistically reuse any of these? If I reuse I can upgrade down the line as well. Existing parts list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/msTmMb If a new build, the hope is to have the build last as long as possible (still have my 970 build) so thinking about a 4090 to max the monitors(cant find 7900 xtx in my region) . I don't mind having to eventually turn down settings, but couples years to maximize the new monitor would be great. Don't really care about rgb or build cohesion, just decent thermals and simplicity. Also the budget doesn't have to include storage or peripherals. Thanks!
  9. https://www.newegg.ca/ https://www.memoryexpress.com/ http://www.canadacomputers.com/ https://www.staples.ca/en/ http://www.tigerdirect.ca/ These are the ones that I know + bestbuy.ca It seems like a lot of laptops' cpu run upward of 80-90°C under load, is that considered normal in gaming laptops?
  10. Thanks for the reply, I took a look around the stores in my area and can’t really find any of the options around 2k except the XPS. But it caps out at 1050ti. I heard good things about MSI GS series but also that they have temperature problems, is this a big issue in thin gaming laptops? Need to look at more video reviews
  11. Trying to replace my old Toshiba Satellite C50-A for school with something more capable. I don't like changing computers too often so I hope the new one can last me 4+ years. My budget probably can't cover any ultrabook types but I would prefer somewhat light/portable. Currently looking at this: https://www.londondrugs.com/asus-rog-strix-gl502vs-15.6-g-sync-vr-ready-gaming-laptop---intel-i7---gtx1070---gl502vs-ds71/L7440118.html I heard of some temperature problems in gaming laptops, is that relevant to all builds or just some thinner or cheaper ones? Location: Canada Budget: under $2500 CAD Usage: Gaming, rendering Battery Life: Longer the better, really want one that can last 4 hours not gaming(not sure if possible tho) CPU: i7 or equivalent GPU: 1060 or better Weight/ potability: ~3kg or lighter Screen Size: 14 or 15 Screen TN / ISP: anything goes, brighter the better
  12. PC would turn on and off with all the lights and fans turning on and off with cycles lasting ~5 seconds. Have tried resetting the cmos, reseating/changing the ram, taking off components and checked temp/performance. At first it would turn on after several tries(had a pattern where the pc turns on and goes to splash screen followed by the dash on the top left corner but with a reduced resolution, turns off and then next boot sequence would be complete and into windows), with no problems that I can detect (hdd, cpu, gpu, temp, performance etc). Recently, after not using the computer for about a week, it would get stuck in a seemingly endless loop. Sometimes the mobo light would not turn on, and therefore have a faster on/off speed. PSU fan wouldn't turn off during these loops while all other parts do. The psu is 630 watt and there's no way that it's not enough, everything is connected properly and functions properly if it boots successfully. The motherboard is gigabyte z97 gaming 5 and cpu is 4790k. Where do you guys think the problem lies?
  13. The Eurocom Monster 4 seems like a possible candidate with it's size and spexs too I'm going to use this laptop for almost everything all the time so it seems like I'd rather get a better gpu than the 960m or the 970m tho hmm Seems like I have to choose between paying the premium for the 1060 jump from 970m or size/portability
  14. The Sager one still comes to a total of $1700 with shipping D: Xps 15 was the first thing I looked at but the other options all have better gpu for a similar price. The ASUS GL502VM has the best deal for the specs in Canada from what I can find, but it does look sub-par. I found some used Razer Blade with i7 4th gen,256gb ssd, 970m for $1200, the form factor makes it pretty appealing but it seems like it has heat problems.
