That is a pretty old server, and will be very power hungry, so if you care about power usage, it will be cheaper to buy a newer server or a desktop.
Its a 2.5in drive server, so no 3.5 drives are going in.
You can't really fit the drives without the caddies, you can try to force it in and use tape as a pull tab, but normally just buy the caddies.
You can also use external drives over something like a external sas expander.

johnmhigh got a reaction from Lurick in CISCO CCNA? (U.K)
Well I've been at my current job for 11 years now and won't leave until I have a job to go to in the networking area, I don't partially like my job but it is secure.

johnmhigh reacted to Glenwing in display for a GTX 970M
G-Sync turns off when your framerate is above the monitor's refresh rate, so actually it doesn't do anything at all at high framerates, it is only useful at low framerates.

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-media-creation-tool-create-installation-media-upgrade you can use this to make a usb installation drive. to get to bios usually hit the del key or F2 while starting (I just keep tapping so it doesn't manage to slip by)

because ever since civilisation 5 it has been using a mcrosoft compute feature called directcompute i think. This means it can use the GPU to run code. This taxes the processors more as they perform more task and switch about between them. The game is also multi threaded.

johnmhigh reacted to Captain_WD in SSD install
Could you post a screenshot of your Device Manager?
Can you see the option in the BIOS?
Here's also how you can check if TRIM is enabled if you decide to use a SSD:
Open Command Prompt as an Administrator and run fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify . If you get as a result DisableDeleteNotify = 0 then TRIM should be working. If the values is 1 then TRIM is disabled.
Captain_WD.

If you want cheap an APU is going to be your best bet, if you were going to spend a bit more I'd recommend a 380 over a 950 as it costs like 20 dollars more from the retail price and adds a fair bit of performance
I also would not recommend you get a solely dual core CPU, you're going to have a bad time running some newer games in the future

johnmhigh reacted to mbryant in Good (free or cheap) video editing software
I'd suggest hitfilm (free version) to get the hang of things, but I don't know how the interface varies from adobe. I have the adobe creative cloud and I love it. So really it's between hitfilm and adobe. Hitfilm is praised as the best free software.

Just as a side note: You can get a Premiere and/or After Effect trial and it'll be perfect for this in the short term but not in the long run.

johnmhigh reacted to Volbet in how can i connect my projector to my receiver box?
Hmm, assuming the two RCA plugs at the top is out, then you can use two RCA-to-RCA cables.
Just plug them into the ´out´ on the projector and to the ´in´ on the reciver.

Adobe Premiere CC and After Effects CC.
If not, Final Cut X (or whatever they're calling it)

johnmhigh got a reaction from GodSpoon in Replaceing Projector fans
Ah, that helps alot, thanks for that.
ill get them ordered now and post results! i got a thermal sensor in the projector at the moment to seen the temps, so hopefully the new fans will be quiet and cooler!

Those look great! Heres a quick explanation of pc fans overall
You should be alright though I wouldn't worry too much about it, ground to ground and hot to hot
Let me know how it goes!

johnmhigh reacted to GodSpoon in Replaceing Projector fans
Yes! They will just run at a constant speed unless you put resistors in
You could try to just run the wires inside the headers though and tape them in case you want to reuse the fans someday, but I understand size constraints
But yes more than likely they will be fine as long as the voltage is high enough to turn them and if the other fans were loud and 7v isn't exactly that much so I think you will be fine
