Awesome build, totally jealous that I didn't have something as pretty pink/purple/blue when I was 8 and I'm a boy. Although furbies still creep the living sh*t out of me ._.

Looks sweet. The double layered dragon logo looks really good on that. I hope when the build is finished it won't look too "black-paint-overload"-ish but I'm sure it'll look awesome

I'm not a lucky man with electronics...
    - 2 HDD's died
    - Motherboard died
    - PSU fried during power surge
    - Graphics card died
    - CPU died
    - Keyboard died

I'm only 18 :'( What more is there to come?

Personally, I have the ifixit Pro Toolkit (Same one as Linus):
    https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Pro-Tech-Toolkit/IF145-072

The screw driver itself is well built, and works well. It's not super heavy duty (I mean, it's a precision screw driver set, not designed for heavy duty), but it works quite well. The little carry bag/pouch is quite nice, but the plastic enclosure for the screw driver and bits is very cheap, and shitty plastic. I think I broke a bit of the plastic on it the same day I got it. The rest of the tools are good enough. Some of the metal tweezers are a bit thin/cheap, but you wouldn't really use them for anything requiring a lot of force anyway.

It's definitely a good place to start though, especially if you catch it on-sale or happen to have a coupon code.

Right let's get this next set of questions answered. I see there's a growing number of food related ones later on, should be fun getting to those too.

Hmm, surprisingly not that long ago.  I built my first ever computer towards the end of 2011, still using it today as my main workstation, although it's changed a lot since then.  I decided to jump in at the deep end and went with a QuadSLI 590 setup on a 3930k with 32GB of RAM, cooled by a dual custom loop setup.  With hindsight I messed up big time on the case as I chose it before realising I wanted to watercool, ended up only being able to fit a total 360mm of radiator in it, not great given the high wattage.

    First PC Build:

Later on I swapped out the 590s for Titans and added a bigger SSD, I also switched cases and changed pretty much everything about the cooling, bar the CPU block.  This I consider my first mod as it's the one where I made significant changes to things.  My previous build was simply putting pieces together like an expensive lego set.

    First Mod:

Template wise I used a standard part, made sense given how things would be machined from a solid block to begin with.  Materials wise, well, there are a lot of them, although I guess many stem from similar branches.  On all the metal components, for instance, I used a very fine noise texture as a faint bump map to achieve the sort of rougher surface you often get with anodised aluminium parts, like on the dominators.  Paints and powder coating was handled in a very similar way, just using a mix of glossy and matte shaders.  I have a few node setups here to show you what I mean:

    Egg Crate Foam material:

    Carbon Vinyl:

    Dominator Platinums:

The actual render settings themselves were very simple.  I just set the samples to between 800-2000 and set the output res to 3840x2160, along with increasing the clamp a bit to reduce noise and remove fireflies.  The lighting was a simple 3 point studio setup with small area lights added close to parts where I wanted subtle gradients or reflections.  It's a simple technique that can really bring out the detail, it also helps to prevent flat surfaces from seeming a bit boring.

Most likely it'll spend much of its time in one place.  But I figured it might be fun to see if it could also be taken to LANs etc. (how often do you get to see a wall mounted rig at a LAN eh?) and also for transporting between home and uni.

That's a tough question as it really depends on what I'm trying to do with said material.  I love working with plexi, unlike many, as I find it very easy to cut, sand, polish, bend, drill etc. it also comes in loads of finishes and thicknesses.  I also love working with wood too, although it's almost a prerequisite to have a proper workshop setup, which sadly I don't.  Aluminium is also cool to work with, strong, light and easy to cut and shape, but definitely more work than acrylic.

My day to day power tools consist of a DeWalt 18V DCD785 Cordless Drill, DCS331 Jigsaw, DCS391 Circular Saw, a Dremel 4000 and a Bosch Mouse Sander.  As for things like screwdrivers etc. sadly I'm a bit out of the loop.  I just use the ones that my dad passed to me (no doubt so he could get himself a new set because shinies).  In terms of features to look for, magnetised tips are very handy, along with a comfortable grip.  If you're doing a fair bit of tightening, then your hands will thank you for that.  Try to locate specialist hardware stores just so you can go and try things out, then maybe purchase online to knock the price down.

The case does not show fingerptints at all, I was originally going to build with gloves but I didn't bother in the end because of how anti fingerpint the surface was.  The airflow is fine despite the crowded appearance, this case is basically a vertical wind tunnel, extremely quiet because it uses stack cooling, and the temps are in the mid 80s on the GPUs when running full load

For the cable routing I ordered the 24 pin too long ... When I pull it apart to install the titan I was going to try another position, I'm thinking of turning the power supply upside down and turning the power supply fan into an intake it will suck up some of that 24 pin and help with airflow (hopefully) haven"t made any decisions though because I'm looking at upgrading the motherboard and CPU to z97 rog and i7

Ya I'm not a huge fan of the desk setup now. I'm actually building a desk for more legroom lol

Oh and by the way, your desk looks awesome! Love the speakers, love the keyboard (have the same one ) and the dual monitors look pretty swell on the nice looking darker wood desk. I myself prefer to put my keyboard/mouse in the corner, as opposed to facing the wall. Being 6 foot 5 that tends to help with leg room...

Seeing your computer on your desk though, are you planning to put any lights in it? Nothing too flashy because that'd take away from the more sophisticated, rustic look your desk has, but just some smooth lighting elements because it seems a bit dark and draws a bit too little attention to itself.

Eesh that's annoying (the cable being too long). To me though it seems that flipping the PSU upside down would make a rather minimal difference but since you're flipping it for airflow improvement I'd be interested to see how much of a difference that actually makes. Keep us updated

Looks seriously good, didn't think such a small case would look so good but I love how it looks, especially with the orientation of the motherboard like this. I would say the colour seems a bit odd to me but that's merely personal preference and I'm just not too fond of yellow(ish) colours. Either way, looks awesome. Are you going to reroute the cables running over the middle of the motherboard/case, or is that their final position? Although in a small case like that there may not be a lot of options left to wire them otherwise... Anyway, looks awesome, great job

Cheers I actually (kind of late) found out rather late Microsoft somewhat supplies a tool for this here. However since they only supply this for Windows 8.1 and the computer's original OS was regular Windows 8 (I've read this cross-installing can be a bit of a bastard) I simply torrented an .iso for Windows 8. Seemed like a more straight forward way to me. Cheers anyway

I think the biggest sin of technology is keeping it to yourself. Only then are you truly limiting the growth and advancement.

To be fair, I wear jeans all the time as well, and suits, and I find that a medium sized wallet fits perfectly in jeans, and it accommodates plenty of space for a decent amount of change, and about 12 cards plus paper money and receipts comfortably... But, that may be because I've grown used to it over the years of always having a wallet on me. However what you said about it being one less thing to forget, if you keep it next to your phone when you get home, or next to where you charge your phone at home or whatever, you don't really forget it because it becomes part of your every-day-gear like your watch. Anyway, that's mainly personal preference though and I can see why you would choose to prefer none. One last thing: we don't really have platinum and conversely cards here, so I don't know how big of an influence that is. Although I'm pretty sure if you whip out the new IPhone (the newest out at that time) versus some budget phone out at that time, it'd be noticeable as well...

My apologies to the both of you, I had indeed not done any research and wasn't aware that the information was stored locally, but instead went with the assumption it was cloud-based. Besides that though, I still would rather have my information stored solely with the bank, rather than some multi-billionaire corporation. I am aware though that that is a bias statement, because banks could equally be non-trustworthy and abuse/leak sensitive information.
