well. if they're setup as an imap it automatically synchronizes the data from the web server to your local storage.
Outlook and Gmail are just interfaces that you use to view the mails

Abudis reacted to minibois in How does an e-mail app work?
    In short: API.
Different email providers will have different systems (POP, IMAP) or API's through which it is possible for an email client to get data. What data? Your emails, contacts, etc.

This video gives a bit of information on what an API does:
    (note the title!)
it only shows a couple different aspects, but just think about it this way:
    - you log in to your email in a new client
    - client gets this info, wraps it up, presents it to the email provider (i.e. Gmail)
    - email client checks if stuff is alright (right password and stuff) and if it checks out, gives the email client a 'token'. This token allows the email client to work with Gmail
    - now the email client can ask Gmail for your mail and such, using this token.
    - this asking for mail and such is the API part doing its work.

Abudis got a reaction from cobalt77 in GTX 660Ti issue. Is it for recycling?
Damn, I never saw your reply. Thanks a lot for your input. I did try a lot of things to troubleshoot it and I'll try what you suggested but it's probably going to go to recycling or giving it away to someone that may find some use out of it. It's a rather outdated card if I'm honest, it's struggling in some games and it's high time for an upgrade. It sadly coincided with the whole pandemic thing. My country has been in lockdown for like......a month now, so I'm holding off on making any decision for the time being. Thank you and @GreyestGoat for your help though

    Abudis reacted to Underfire17 in I'm a n00b and want to dual-boot Win 10 & Ubuntu
What I have done is install Windows and Linux on two separate HDDs in my laptop. I mainly use it so that I can keep them separate and get the best storage out of the drives.

If you have a DVD drive still, you may look into swapping it out with a converter and an SSD. You will probably want to mess with the bios so it will boot off of your Windows disk first though.

    Hope this helps!

Abudis reacted to Sauron in I'm a n00b and want to dual-boot Win 10 & Ubuntu
This is actually the best solution; dual booting on the same drive can be clunky to set up and windows 10 has been known to break that sort of thing when it updates. Having a dedicated drive for each OS is simpler and safer.

Abudis reacted to Shura in I'm a n00b and want to dual-boot Win 10 & Ubuntu
You don't need to do anything with the original ssd, if you want to do a clean install of windows, go settings > backup > recovery and just do a clean reset. Once done, install the new 500GB ssd and split the partitions if you like, something like 30/70 and install ubuntu onto the partition. You can use the 70% left over as a storage partition or for future installs of different distros. You can choose which OS to boot by going into the boot menu of your computer. One thing to note is when installing ubuntu make sure the bootloader/grub is NOT installed on the windows drive.

Another suggestion is, if you want windows as default, you can install windows on the 500gb ssd and linux on the 120gb. Linux doesn't need a lot of space, unlike windows. Windows uses NTFS filesystem by default and Linux uses EXT4, Linux can read NTFS pretty well whereas Windows can't read EXT4 without third party programs. The point is, if you make the 500GB windows, you can still access the drive and use that space if need be from linux. But if you make Linux the 500GB, you can't access that space and use it from windows without workarounds.

    Abudis reacted to Windows7ge in I'm a n00b and want to dual-boot Win 10 & Ubuntu
What I did for my laptop was install Windows 10. After the fact I went into disk management and shrunk the partition/volume which made room for me to dualboot with Ubuntu. After installing Ubuntu on the free space on the disk it gave me Grub (an piece of code from linux that shows you your boot options (partitions. Windows or Ubuntu in this instance). Clicking nothing would boot ubuntu. Selecting the windows partition will boot windows.

You should be able to used the windows boot loader (under System Configuration) to make it so Windows is the default boot partition. It will then give you the boot options of volume1, volume2, etc. (1 being windows, 2 being linux, 3 being whatever else you'd like to install.

You can create your various partitions when you go to install windows or linux. (whichever you install first) Alternatively you can do it from within the OS (new partitions, shrinking existing volumes, etc.)

Ahh OK... maybe run another virus scanning app like sophos/bitdefender.. just for a second/third look... I'm almost positive it's not malicious, but just to be sure. Also if you can't find any apps that could possibly be the culprit, I would definitely reset the device and start again, but that's just me, I don't keep much on my phone, most is either cloud access or NAS etc and for the occassional apps for downtime, other than that it's mostly work stuff but always keep my contacts backed up and so on, so not a big deal for me when needs resetting.
  14. Agree
Abudis reacted to paddy-stone in Does anyone have any idea what this on my lockscreen is?
Well, it might not be malicious as such, but more likely PUP or similar, so might be some software that you potentially don't want? so like alters settings/lockscreen etc. I don't want to worry you, it might be harmless after all seeing as it is only telling you your phone is set to silent and you might miss phone calls... that's why I assumed it was Samsung software as I can remember a few things online about people complaining that there phone was on silent and missed calls, or that it acted up or something - can't remember too much about it TBH, but pretty sure that was to do with S series phones maybe a year or 2 ago?
If you're unsure, have a look through any software you may have installed recently and if it looks suspect un-install it... see if the problem has gone. If the problem persists even after un-installing tons of software, then maybe a wipe might be in order and start from scratch again. I like to do this at least once a year anyway as crap just builds up after a while.

Abudis reacted to Enderman in IP issues? Someone already logged into FB on 100% new computer
Well that's simply not possible, because the only way website auto log you in is by cookies, not IP.
If you clean installed properly then the entire disk is wiped and there are 0 cookies.
    So either
    a) someone logged you in
    b) you didn't clean install and delete partitions properly
    c) you think you're logged into someone's account but you just don't know how facebook works
    d) you went to a different site than facebook

Quick look and I didn't see any feature like that. You could make another event for those birthdays you want to get notified. Or use some other calendar app. Personally I use aCalendar which allows setting notification for birthdays (even has options for how many days before it notifies).

Abudis reacted to GoodBytes in Can you have Windows 10 search on a drive other than C:?
Make sure the shortcut of the executable in the Start Menu. If it is already there, delete it, and re-create it, it might be doing something strange like Steam game shortcuts where they are badly done (a bug they NEVER ever fixed).

But to answer your question, just search on the start menu for "Index", and you'll find "Index Options", and open it. From there you can add folders you want Windows to Index. Please note that you want to select only what you need, not entire drives. Indexing too much may degrade the quality of results, and will affect performance. For example, if you index the entire D:\, every file that is modified, added or removed, Windows will index that, slowing down your experience.

This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)

    Thanks everyone.

    EDIT2:

Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning

It's quite fascinating how Logan copes with all this.
His "apology" is basically a self-aggrandizing essay on how he's very deep and he's an artist (any dude with a MIDI keyboard and sequencer software is apparently a world class musician) and how Pistol has done nothing wrong ever and even though she didn't feel like doing WASD in the past she'll get on it now because she's just that great.
The whole thing reads like an angsty teen's livejournal.

Comparing the two you can really see how down-to-earth and sincere Wendell is regarding the matter, he saw the whole thing was going nowhere. He was the lesser partner in a company that had strayed far from the path laid out.

It's sad to see them go, but watching the whole thing go down in flames seems appropriate, this is what happens when you learn nothing from your past mistakes.

    Ego-trip highlights:
"...she takes her orders from me and does a good job on the editing... If you see pretty broll, she did it..."
"...I needed to find my place. Some people don't understand that..."
"...I am one of those stupid artists. I make my music, write..."
"...I did Tek Syndicate like a wild, creative entrepreneur..."
"...Money doesn't turn me on. Ideas do..."
"...he is the smartest nerd on YouTube. I'm probably the silliest..."
"...look at our logo... the burning earth. This is us... the wild ones..."
"...I like the more creative stuff... the deeper stuff... the zanier stuff... the learning stuff... the outside of the box stuff..."
"...I'm an entertainer and I hope I occasionally make someone think deeper or look at life in a new way..."
