  1. Yeah they're turned pin connectors
  2. They're standard 0.1in pin spacing, just like the old fashioned turned pin IC sockets.
  3. The addressable RGB strips are just neopixels or WS2812Bs from what I've seen And for the non addressable ones, the pinout above is pretty much good enough to work from. +12v on the first pin, then ground the remaining pins to light up green, red, or blue

looking around for a low power (ish) gpu (<=150…

    rx 570 I suppose

    Note 9 or Galaxy S10...fuck

@Bananasplit_00 Wtf? I already hate idiotic screens that aren't a full proper rectangle but seriously, they put video over where the camera is? christ... Samsung and really everyone else have all gone downhill, even removing the headphones jack now...
  6. Oh god, all my stuff is down for various reasons :c The triple GTX 480 rig works though

Spread the word, this is insane.

That was already the plan since the clowns as snsv can't be bothered...

@Hackentosher I doubt it. The pop made it crash and it articacts on reboot. Probably fucked silicon somewhere

@James Evens I didn't want to take it apart, but something went pop and now it artifacts

    For a fucking 980Ti!

I got this GPU used a while ago, and it died when I got a VR headset, presumably from the extra load. And its only a couple months out of warranty.

maybe the voltage transient is what caused the crash, and then the lack of cap that's supposed to be providing a stable voltage is causing artifacts. It's already fucked, what's the point in not trying to fix it yourself?

  12. Nobody really knows for sure if T2 has a backdoor. Apple could very well have a piece of software that generates a decryption key based on the machine's serial, kinda like bitlocker. After all, they made the computer, so they know how T2 works internally and how the key is created But since apple likes to keep all that stuff secret, who knows? It feels a lot like "faith based security" to me.
  13. Just a heads up, for those discussing bitlocker, I've got a bit of a curveball for you. Microsoft informed me that contacting the manufacturer of the laptop and providing proof of purchase, serial number, etc will get you a recovery key for that machine's hard drive. Not exactly sure how they would have access to the recovery key, but I can confirm it is possible to get the 48 digit recovery key. I successfully recovered data from one of my customer's HP elitebooks with a failed motherboard (and the icing on the cake was the HDD was on its way out with over 23 million bad sectors) and we're an independent repair shop. So bitlocker data recovery IS possible for both the end user and a repair shop, if you can work with the owner of the laptop to get the recovery key from the manufacturer, in this case, HP. I just plugged the drive into a windows computer via USB, decrypted the drive with the key HP provided us, and then copied files off the drive.

Dunno if you all knew this, but the 2DS is just…

@James Evens Bypassing the resistors on the headphones output so its slightly less shit
  15. Dunno if you all knew this, but the 2DS is just one big LCD with bits taped off and then covered by the outer chassis

The touch screen is just a resistive digitizer on the "bottom LCD"

I thought this was so damn funny when I found out. It does make this device a mess of ribbon cables when you first open it.

you know.. that actually kind of makes sense.. i bet that is notably cheaper than putting in two seperate displays as well.

  16. I hope so... But its not the first time they used liquid damage as a false diagnosis
  17. They claimed that the machine was badly liquid damaged, which rossmann discovered was not the case. Presumably they [apple] lied to the customer to back out of a warranty repair and having to come up with an excuse for data loss

Welp, here we go bois. [spoiler] Seems like I'l…

I know, its just that people rarely change their system font since it usually breaks stuff. Comic sans broke stuff beyond already being comic sans

Reminds me of when I had comic sans for my system font
  20. Its not exactly a top end overclocking board... I'd try higher voltage. 1.35-1.4, just watch thermals
  21. Most 8+4 boards I've seen run totally fine with just the 8 pin connected and the 4 pin disconnected. Unless you get into like LN2 cooling or whatever, the 8 pin will supply more than enough
