They say the headphones jack was removed so that users will get better audio via USB? I call crap. 99% of users don't care, and the last 1% can STILL USE USB AUDIO EVEN IF THERE'S A HEADPHONES JACK
I plugged my Fiio E7 into my cheap zenfone via USB OTG and the damn thing just works. No reboot, just switched to it automatically.
Thoughts on the lack of headphones jack on the pixel 2?

I notice a serious lack of journalistic bitching about the lack of a headphone jack on the Pixel 2.

I thought Google will be the last one to take a page out of Apple's playbook. I was wrong. It actually made me think what did the poor 3.5 mm headphone jack did wrong all these years?
-
@RGProductions Have you burned in the OLED display? They can be replaced for like 5$

This one is commonly used with smartphones, all which have an audio jack.
Google just wants to make more money.

Yep. Android OEMs realized that what Apple is doing is a racket so they'll start removing the headphone jack. I won't be so surprised if the Galaxy S9/Note 9 will get rid of it as well as well as other OEMs.
It would be surprising if the LG V40 will remove it as well.

Always found it supremely awkward to use a charger and watch videos at the same time.

Meh, my guess is by 2019 if Samsung hasn't already removed the headphone jack the Galaxy S10 and S10+ if they have two sizes or whatever they end up calling it will most probably not have it so I'll probably switch to iPhone if my S8+ has aged as poorly as my S6 did. Technically I did have an iPhone 3GS for a few months but AT&T was expensive. But that was the only iPhone I had ever owned myself. My mom had an iPhone 4S up to 2015 when her and I got our Galaxy S6's.
But by 2019, I could see them having a really interesting twist on the iPhone X's design that doesn't include that bar. I guess it's hard to say being 2 years ahead of time. But in the meanwhile I'm fine with my Galaxy S8+, I enjoy using the headphone jack but alas smartphone manufacturers don't see it as being needed which is unfortunate as the plug does swivel in the socket and if you broke it off in the socket, you only lose the headphone jack and the phone can function and charge without any issues.

STOP DELETING THE FUCKING MOST USEFUL PORT ON A PHONE
-
@STRMfrmXMN I agree
@Tech_Dreamer I for one don't give a shit if my phone's 15Mm thicc. If they can put a giant battery and other useful things in it, please do.
-
@Tech_Dreamer Well for Apple, they used the slight space savings for a better vibration motor or what they call their "Taptic Engine" which I don't think is a motor anymore.
Now for Android phones, I really don't know that they might be using the space savings for.
Maybe a teardown of the Pixel 2 might reveal what Google is doing with that slight space savings.
My thought is they might be able to get a slightly larger battery in it. But I'm highly doubtful of that. -
I might be in the minority, but I would gladly have a thicker phone if it means better battery life.
Also, m.2 SSD compatibility would be pretty cool.
-
Yeah thicc phones are great. Though m.2 seems a LITTLE pointless, though never obsolete storage does kinda sound neat.
-
@iamdarkyoshi oh yeah super burned in. Can't even read it lol I'll replace that asap it has like 3000 power on hours

It turns out that the OLEDs used in these DACs is the same as the ones in these arduino oled things

Just desolder the old one, desolder this one from its PCB, and solder the new one where the old one was. If its like mine, you'll need to heatgun the front off, the back can stay on.
-
Like seriously why the fuck did they choose an oled for this?
