  1. Thanks Shrimp, Indeed you are right, I knew it was soldered to the board but this was the first time I had really been trying to locate it and wanted to make sure that I had found the right one! I managed to get it to work and the board works again now which is great so thanks for your help
  2. Hi all, Let me just catch you up with a quick summary of where I'm at: bricked my ASUS ROG Strix B450-I Gaming doing a BIOS update, contacted ASUS support and went through all the motions to try and recover it, and I can't. I'm outside RMA so no returns. In a last ditch attempt, I am trying to use the CH341a BIOS chip read/writer to flash the BIOS onto the BIOS chip directly using a SOIC clip. However I can't seem to locate the actual BIOS chip that I need to hook up the SOIC Clip onto. I located a WINBOND W25X05CLNIG chip on the underside of the board but that seems to be too small for the BIOS. So far I've seen a picture from a TweakTown Article that appears to show the BIOS chip, which is also something that its backed up by this motherboard comparison spread sheet. However the issue I run into is that the corresponding chip on my ASUS Strix B450-I gaming is a chip with the lettering 25LB128CSIG (which from my research I have identified as a Grayhill 25LB128CSIG chip). I have successfully managed to read data from the Winbond chip that I mentioned earlier so I know that my equipment is functional and working, but I seem to have a different BIOS chip compared to all the other information I can find. I can't get this chip to show up which is leading me to believe that this chip that I'm looking at isn't the right chip. Does anyone have any information which could help me? Where can I find a reliable source as to what BIOS chip is on my board, that kind of thing? Has anyone tried doing this before with an ASUS board? Honestly I'm at a loss and wouldn't mind any suggestions that anyone has. And before someone brings it up, no the ASUS CrashFree BIOS thing didn't work Thanks in advance, Swindy EDIT: Just had a breakthrough, it appears the chip might be a Gigadevice chip and not a Grayhill chip as I previously assumed
  3. New update: After about 4 days of it working fine, it cut out again. I've tried changing my DNS on my TP-Link router but I'm unable to change it on my HomeHub 5, as far as I can find EDIT: I've since found that there are other options to replace my ghetto TP-Link/BT HomeHub 5 combo but that costs money which I simply don't have so I'd like to exhaust all my other options before I resort to this. Ideally this would include a situation that doesn't cause massive disruption to my network as it is a student house full of gamers who are using it all the time :')
  4. Update: finally got around to changing up the DNS servers on the router. All seems good so far but it's only been about 20 mins or so. Also I shortened the lease time cause I had previously extended it to it's maximum, wondering if that'll help clear it up. I'll let you know if I experience any other issues.
  5. I agree with getting a good router. If I had more money, I would buy a much better one, possibly one that allows me to use DD-WRT as that's not given me any issues. About changing the DNS, I'm beginning to think that it may be something to do with this. I was toying around with the idea in my head and was wondering if I should or not. I'll defo be trying it now. Lastly, about the HomeHub, I linked in my original post how I did it. It's not so much a bridge mode, it's more setting a static IP for my router and turning off all the wireless functions on the HomeHub and connecting all my devices (both wired and wireless) to my router. It should be configured correctly as it works without any issues for my PC and my phone, just it decides to stop working every now and then I'll be trying the DNS settings at a time when the house is asleep so it doesn't interupt anyone, I'll let you know how it goes.
  6. Hey all, I'm having a weird problem and after many hours googling, I'm unsure how to proceed so I've turned to you guys for help. Tl:dr for those who don't want to read my long story: My internet disconnects for some of the devices on my network, but not others. I get a "one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer" error on my Windows PC, but other devices can't connect to the network either, so I don't think it's just my PC. I feel the router is to blame but I'm unsure. I'll be going through my daily business on my PC (specs of all devices I talk about will be listed at the end of the post), playing games and listening to music, while chatting to my friends when suddenly Skype (yes yes, I know, boo Skype) disconnects and says it's gone offline, however what ever call I'm in at the time, does not disconnect. If I drop out of the call, I can't reconnect, but if I stay in it, I'm fine. I check Chrome and the same thing, Tweetdeck is still refreshing, showing new tweets but if I try to post a tweet or someone posts a picture, it doesn't load. At which point I open a new tab and try to navigate to a new webpage. This prompts me with a DNS_Probe_Started screen and then ends up on DNS_Probe_Finished_No_Internet. However while everything is disconnecting, I'll still be able to finish whatever game I was playing at the time (e.g I'd still be able to finish the game of Smite that I'm playing). Also, while talking to my friends and playing the game I was playing, I tried to ping my router to see if that was an issue, because if I tried to go to my router via Chrome, I still couldn't connect. This led me to believe it was a router issue, although all lights on the router were flashing as normal. After asking my 3 housemates if their connection had been affected, they all reported it fine (that has since changed, some of them experience issues here and there) and connecting to the internet just fine. I assumed it was a problem with my PC so I just restarted it but the problem persisted. Then I noticed my phone too had also suffered and could no longer connect to the internet. After unplugging ethernet cables on my PC, resetting the adapter, and restarting the router, to no avail. After giving up and going to sleep, I awoke to find that the problem had resolved itself thankfully and I had internet on both my phone and PC once again. This lasted about a week before the same thing happened. Internet disconnected in the same manner, on both my PC and Phone (but none of my housemates devices), so I go to bed, wake up the next morning all fine. This started to become a daily occurrence and that's when I contacted my ISP to get a replacement router (ISP being BT, the router being a HomeHub 5). This seemed to solve the issue, but after a week of no problems, it started up again. Exactly the same, my PC and my phone loosing connection, but not my housemates'. I suffered with it for another few weeks, as christmas break was approaching and I'd be returning home to my parent's house where I've never had this issue before. After having a painless month at my parents house, I moved back hoping the situation (again) with the router had resolved itself. Instead it got worse. This time my housemates (except 1 oddly) started getting the issues that I was having. At this point, I decided to abandon BT's stock HomeHub 5 and get another router (TP-Link C2 AC750), and put the HomeHub in a make shift passthrough mode as BT don't include it in the stock firmware on their router. All this did was lower the ping on the wireless, and we decided that was worth enough to keep it there as we weren't noticing any negative effects that didn't already exist within our network. After remembering that we could spoof our MAC Address, we tried that to see if it worked and bizarrely it does and continues to do so to this day. However the disconnects are still far more frequent for me and my phone, than any other of my housemates. My phone and my PC still consistently DC at the same time with no warning beforehand. Now however, if I try and troubleshoot the problem in Windows, it gives me the error " one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer". After reading up that this is a Winsock error, I've tried to reset the winsock and flush DNS/ release ip etc etc, but some of these fail giving me permissions errors and even when I've fixed the errors, it doesn't stop my PC from disconnecting. I'm really struggling for ideas as it's ruining my ability to be a reliable team member and reliably stream, any help is appreciated. My PC Specs OS: Windows 10 64-bit Internet connectivity: Using Wired Ethernet, 2.4GHz is available aswell but suffers the same fate CPU: i7 4770k OS: 16GB RAM Mobo :Gigabyte GA-Z87X-SLI Phone Model: Sony Xperia Z3 OS: Stock Android 5.1.1 Network setup ISP: BT Router: HomeHub 5 and TP-Link Archer C2 AC750 (both stock firmware and most up to date) Devices: 3 PCs connected to AC750 via Ethernet, One PC via 5GHz and a PS4 on 2.4GHz, plus 4 phones on either 5/2.4GHz. Homehub5 Some of you must be wondering how this is set up, I was following a guide from the BT Care forums, posted by user milleniumaire near the bottom of the first page. Substitute out the Netgear router he's talking about for the AC750 and you get the idea Tried fixes (and failed) - Flush DNS, release/reset ip - Reinstall Windows (temp fix, problem came back after one/two weeks) - Resetting/Replacing router - Spoofing MAC address (works for random time span, sometimes it lasts for minutes, sometimes hours)
