  1. Having to look UP at a TV is the superior viewing experience.

Linus and a lot of tech YouTubers keep making fun of people who mount their TVs high, for example above their fireplace etc.

However, I disagree. Mounting the display up high (and angling it down so you're not fucking up the viewing angle) allows you to relax into the couch and actually rest your head rest for once instead of supporting it with your neck.

I rarely ever get a chance to actually fully "relax" and "use" a headrest, it's usually too low or too far back to properly enjoy it. So mounting the display up high is a great way to be able to rest your head and completely relax.

you know.. lovely theory on paper, but based on this theory, having the TV on the ceiling is even more comfortable, then?

also - a headrest being too low or too far back is a headrest problem,  not a TV positioning problem.

i like the touch of RGB around the TV.

  2. I don't (yet). I'm saving up to get an RS1221. Once it is set up, my current DS415+ will go to my grandma's house to act as an offsite backup.
  3. I need to keep the google wifi puck as the router to enable mesh mode. Otherwise they'll all act as individual APs + Unify will complain about rogue APs.
  4. That is sadly only true when you live in the USA and have hollow walls that allow for more runs. I live in Europe in a brick house - we were renovating and I able to make some channels in the brick walls and lay ethernet in it, after which the builders then put drywall over it. I do not have access or ability to run any more cables. "raw" and covered in drywall & mudded
  5. Moving to a new house soon, and I'm planning out the network. I'd like a sanity check to make sure I haven't missed anything. Some context: all the runs inside the house are CAT6E/CAT7 (yes I know it's not an official standard), terminated to RJ45 during the first 2 upgrades, the ubiquiti switches will run in unmanaged "dumb" mode. I contacted ubiquiti, and they support that. Worst case I'll run a controller on one of the Pis. Have I missed anything? Networking.pdf
  6. So remember those macs I got for free from work? I decided to indulge my tinkering spirit and start upgrading, repairing and fixing stuff...

And I went a little overboard, spending nearly 1.6k upgrading outdated hardware 😅. Even bought another mac pro and iMac for spare parts.

On the bright side, doing some napkin math, if I sell the remaining stuff, I should be able to break even, or at least make the "spending" more reasonable.

Gonna make a blog post about the whole process. Milk it all for content/seo for my portfolio site lmao 😂 the ltt way.

But hey. At least I'm having fun.

  7. Company’s been getting rid of old equipment. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all this loot.

  8. It's not "R" but it mentions client roaming. Is this similar? Or would this feature only work if one of the Pucks was also the router? Eg it wont work if they're in AP mode instead of Mesh mode?
  9. I'm moving to a new place soon and am currently planning out the networking, and I have a few questions: is mesh really just a (marketing?) term for wireless backhaul? ie, if I have ethernet available, can I just add a bunch of Access Points with the same SSID/Password, and they'll behave in the same way as a mesh would? As I understand it, clients migrating between APs is actually part of the WiFi spec, not the wireless backhaul. Or is there some additional handing off/beamforming/whatever going on? I currently have a bunch of gen1 Google Wifis in mesh mode. Since then new place is going to get wired up all over the place, I'd like to get a ubiquiti dream machine pro as a router, and use my Google Wifi's in AP mode with it - is that possible? The plan is to eventually replace them with Wifi 7 ubiquiti APs, but there aint any out yet + upfront cost too much. edit: I am apparently mixing some terms (clarified below), but my questions remain wireless backhaul = ethernet over point to point wireless network roaming = clients automatically move from weak (or disconnected) base station to new base station mesh = it isn't actually standardized?

Wow. Just wow. What an experience. I mentioned before that I really liked the original release on PS5 (patch 1.6 I think), but 2.0 and the DLC took it to a whole other level.

    Best game I ever played
    , I think.

    Maybe some have better graphics
, and some have better mechanics... But as a complete package? Definitely the most impressive, in-depth and enjoyable game I played. The new update truly makes you feel like an edgerunner. (edited)

  11. Proceeds to look at calendar: "It's a bit early for April, is it not?" No but seriously, unless they somehow prevent AI bots (they won't), it's going to be a massacre. The unpaid mods won't be able to deal with the influx. I imagine some subreddits might require accounts to be multiple years old to post etc.. I can maybe see it as a way to attract more "content"-whales - I remember reading a statistic that something like 1% of users generate 99% of the content, so they might be trying to curate those, but this seems like a very... Crazy for lack of a better word way to do it.
  12. Rejoice, for I have ascended.

memeing aside... pressurized cans are actually a huge running cost. depending on just how good of a job you want to do, you may burn an entire can on every cleaning you do.

  13. I looked at it from an European standpoint, on their EU site (for the Cover, not Matress) and it doesn't feel right. Sure they mention a "limited default warranty" that'll cover it for the legally required 2 years, but it's hidden away, and the marketing heavily implies the warranty is linked to the subscription. IIRC AppleCare+ was actually discontinued here in Belgium, because it was marketed the same way. Anyway back on topic, the fact that you cannot use it without a subscription at all makes it so completely worthless. I first thought that you could at least set a 'static' temperature without it, but it seems the (cloud) app is required for any/all functionality. Company goes under, your 3k€ purchase is fucking e-waste. Ridiculous. Given Linus' insistence on self-hosting, hate of subscription and hate of cloud-based solution, I am surprised it passed the muster at all.
