I don't know woodworking, but my wooden desk was only treated with some kind of oil and nothing else.

The area of it that my arms touch is tiny bit darker, and little bit more shiny than the rest, but other than that its totally fine. Have had it for years.

Going over top of stain again will make it darker. Sometimes this is needed anyways when staining something to achieve the desired color.   (Assuming it's not sealed with something already to prevent the stain from soaking in).

You mentioned "to prevent bowing" staining and polyurethane it will make it look nicer and seal it to help prevent water damage, but the top must be properly supported to prevent bowing. The finish doesn't do anything for this.

Stain it with Minwax, then coat with a clear polyurethane. Thin your first coat of poly down with mineral spirits; that will help it soak into the wood.

Do not shake the can of poly in an attempt to mix it! You'll just put air bubbles into it, which will leave little pockmarks in the finish.

    Thanks for the compliments.
On mine I ended up waiting about a week before I did the finishing.  I picked mine up from Home Depot and they looked nice and flat in the store but once I got them home and stacked the two boards on top of each other they were already bowed.  They also showed up that the top facing surface wasn't quite as smooth as I wanted so I spent that week sanding and smoothing as I was letting the humidity in the boards even out with my house.  Luckily as the moisture levels evened out they settled in to being flat enough for me.  I've been happy so far and they have been holding the same shape for me.

Jarvis Fully. It costs extra, but that isn't an easy payload. A wide config that doesn't wobble (and dual motor) is why it costs extra.
My desk is 70" of hardwood and I've been using that frame for about 3 years now doing WFH, still goes up and down every day like a champ.

Shzzit reacted to YoungBlade in Why does 7200MHz RAM exist when most CPUs have a sweet spot of around 5600MHz
When I say "a bit of a performance benefit" I mean 0-10% - emphasis on the "it can be 0%" better. You'd get more of a performance boost for the dollar by stepping up to a 13700K than pairing your i5 with fast RAM. Plus, you'd need to make sure you're memory constrained in your use case, which is rare. In gaming, you're usually either GPU bound or CPU bound, and then in a subset of CPU bound scenarios, you benefit from memory. So in a fraction of a fraction of gaming situations, fast memory is a benefit.

If you have to pay a big premium, faster RAM is not generally a worthwhile investment.
