  1. "You can live with it." mfw I've never had over 4mbps in my life.
  2. Hey guys. So, my situation is the following.. I've never really had a decent internet connection. I live in a neglected area of my city which hasn't been covered by fiber/cable yet. I've grown tired of my crappy ADSL connection, but my knowledge of networking is insufficient to make a change to something that'll ameliorate my situation. I mainly use my connection for gaming and the like. I currently have a 12mbps ADSL subscription, which I've held for about three to four years now. It seems pretty volatile. Lots of jitter, low speed, packet loss.. All in all a crappy connection that shouldn't even be paid for. My area of residence is inhabited mainly by elderly people, thus the internet consumption around me (if it's even a factor to consider that much) is close to nothing. I have a friend who litteraly lives in the middle of the woods and gets speeds three times as high as mine. My only alternative is to either renovate my ADSL connection, changing ISP or switching to 4G LTE, something which bothers me as I'm unsure of its impact on gaming. That's a picture of a speedtest I just ran, just so you guys can get an idea of how bad this is.
  3. I reccomend having a good read on algorithm before you even start programming, honestly.
  4. My country is pretty awful and we have almost no fiber coverage, and even the fiber we have is not pure fiber in most cases, they're usually crappy fiber/copper mixups in certain occasions. My current speeds are of 3mbps and I live 3 minutes away from the center of my city, which is the country's 3rd largest and most populated. I can probably afford it, so I'd figure to get some knowledge about this and ponder on spending some money on the QoL that would be a fiber LAN.
  5. Anyone know any european companies that can make a private domestic fiber network in my residence? Pls let me know.
  6. >romania >internet Lies are all I see.
  7. Viva. Obrigado pela ajuda Adicionei-te. -- Thanks everyone for your input.
  8. Thanks for the input. Thing I'm the most uneasy about is the monitor. Being 60hz and all that. From what I've been told, 120ms + Nvidia's Lightboost is the way to go for gaming. Also, AMD GPUs?
  9. Yeah, I was pondering on getting two 970s but didn't know how they'd perform in comparison to the 780s. Saw a video a tad ago and was pretty satisfied. They're also considerably cheaper here and I intend on upgrading GPUs when Nvidia drops us the next series of Maxwell. Also.. why the i5 4690k?
  10. First of all, hi and welcome to my thread. I'm making this for the purpose of getting some feedback on some stuff I've been piecing together in order to give myself an awesome experience with gaming and pretty much any other graphical content a man can get from the internets. 1. Budget & Location I'm a portuguese citizen living in Portugal. As is written in the title, I'm dropping a max-ish of 3000€ on this new rig. I'm open to importing the components from international sources (ONLY if they're a part of the Schengen Area) since my country's VAT is 23%.. Goyim government taking my scheckels == no good. So yeah, if anyone knows any alternatives to buying from Portugal where things are overpriced and have a high VAT, let me know. I'd be über grateful for that. 2. Aim I'm going to use this rig mainly for gaming, watching movies.. Nothing too elaborate. I'll probably be doing bits and bops of 3D work with Autodesk stuff for a school project, but nothing my current rig can't handle. 3. Monitors Yeah, monitors.. I have my eyes set on the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q, but if the rig starts getting expensive I'll just likely go for the VG248QE. I've never even experienced 1080p anyway. It depends on how good a deal I get on the rest of the components. 4. Peripherals My current stuff is pretty much borked but it will do. 5. Why are you upgrading? I want to get the most out of my gaming experience, and since I have the opportunity to do this, I'm stepping forward with it. I've never experienced anything beyond 60hz and 720p. I use a crappy 50hz television as a screen at the moment. I also work with software, nothing too demanding from my computer obviously but this is pretty much the only luxury I adhere to. - - - As I said above, I already have a list of components I put together along with a mate. It goes as follows.
  11. Yeah, I'm gonna have so much fun downloading shit into my new Zettabyte drive with my 2mbps internet.
