Depends on user, some said curve give distortion. I don't have issue on curve screen and I love curve screen on Ultrawide and Super Ultrawide but normal Wide I prefer none curve.

You are correct. 😅 I mess up G-Sync and G-Sync Compatible.

They is no thing call normal G-Sync. The normal one is G-Sync Compatible.

All new monitor with G-Sync Compatible is also a Freesync monitor as both it compatible now.

If the monitor only label Freesync means they is no check by Nvidia for G-Sync Compatible but it is still work just not guarantee work from Nvidia.

IMO, absolutely no reason to spend extra cost for G-Sync Ultimate.

The differences of G-Sync Ultimate is they give you no tearing from 1fps to the maximum of the monitor refresh rate while G-Sync Compatible is from around 40fps to the maximum of the monitor refresh rate.

Even though G-Sync Ultimate give you as low as from 39fps to 1fps no tearing but that kind of fps is not playable. But instead they add up a lot of money on it. That the reason they is less and less monitor release with it and most people also no longer care anymore since appear of G-Sync Compatible.

Also G-Sync Compatible monitor is fully supported AMD GPU which running Freesync, but this is not the case for G-Sync Ultimate monitor.

VA or OLED is your best bet. QD OLED if you want to be an early adopter. Dell makes some good VA 1440p high refresh rate monitors.

Hide taskbar, full screen everything, black background. If gaming a lot you won't have an issue. My LG C1 has 1900 hours, mixed gaming, sports watching, movies, etc. No issues at all. But I don't use it as a monitor. Can't comment on QD OLED because its so new and I don't own one. Waiting a few years personally to go OLED/QD OLED on my monitor. VA has good enough blacks for me.

For better black. Suggest go for 1000+ local dimming zone mini-LED in VA or OLED/QD-OLED.

Cons of mini-LED - slightly blooming issue surrounding the mouse cursor when local dimming is on for productivty. May need to on and off the Local Dimming depends on usage.

Cons of OLED/QD-OLED - possibility of burn-in issue, very obvious brightness changes when big/full screen windows apps in white/bright colour, and also slightly less clarity in text due to not RGB pixel alignment.

I have the same monitor the PG279Q
    I upgraded to the Gigabyte M32U 4K
But first i had to decide if to buy the newer model which is the PG279QM or the M32U
So i ended buying the gigabyte
Because upgrading from 1440p to 1440p
Which is the QM is only better in speed and higher refresh rate but you wont see big difference in picture quality but going to 4K
Way a better option for me
The only reason i replaced my pg279q
Because it had so many dead pixels and black light bleed at the corner but in terms of quality the PG279Q is still a good monitor
    Until now

i this situation i would pair the PG279Q with the PG279QM like you said for higher fps than 4K
and the 3080ti you have will give you more fps at 1440p than 4k monitor
and you can use the QM as main monitor
but keep in mind both Asus monitors the black appear more like gray
so if you want really black get a 4k Gigabyte M32U or Samsung Odyssey G7 Neo
like  said before in this post they recommended for you the Samsung VA panel because
black is better or even better the G8 NEO
but the Gigabyte M32U is a good upgrade for the PG279Q
    its better in everyway

Thank you so much for your response! Just for my own knowledge as you seem very knowledgeable on the subject, do curved monitors and ultrawide monitors sacrifice anything that top 1440p monitors like the PG279QM have? Do they gain anything major? I've never owned a 3440x1440 or a curved monitor and have heard alot of things over the years. Almost got the Acer PREDATOR X35 years ago and got to try one out, but opted for the PG279Q. Was very cool though and I came close. Always stayed away from 4k as well because I like higher refresh rates and don't want to be constantly upgrading my GPU. Not sure how long a 3080 Ti could fare with a 3440x1440p, and I'd guess curved especially with gaming and office use would be better on a 3440x1440p monitor vs a 1440p but I could be wrong. Just exhausting all of my options and gaining some knowledge I guess. Currently, I'm going for the PG279QM and it just went out of stock on Amazon lol but I'm waiting until they have it back in stock for now. Better return capability.

hdr monitors are nice to have, but not required imho, still developing tech, and they often come with a fan that's another failure point. I don't think i can go back to gaming without local dimming or oled though.

Since the cooler master monitors aren't out yet, i can only assume the specs to the older 2018 first gen models

pg279qm has 240hz full argb coverage, but is not a true hdr monitor with local dimming, and 8bit panel makes it susceptible to slight bending in certain scenes ie when ur looking at shades of red in a sunset (i'm guessing they had to lower the bit rate for 240hz to be possible with wide gamut)
the FQS/FUS will be about 144hz, comes with mini-led local dimming for better contrast, probably a fan that only turns on at certain temps, and is likely to be 10bit or 8bit+frc (functionally the same thing), on some monitors you can force hdr tonemapping on sdr content with windowed fullscreen, but it's not a huge difference vs gaming on argb mode. FALD backlight will cause little squares in blooming (like around ur mouse curser in a dark background) that some think is a dealbreaker

If you value 240hz over 144hz a decent amount i'd just get the pg279qm, it's a magnificent option that's already available. If you don't care about 240hz that much and wanna give true hdr a try, wait for the FQS/FUS.

I'm biased toward wide gamut gaming/hdr and even with that said, i'd lean slightly toward the pg279qm since it already is for sale and offers 240hz, adding local dimming isn't a groundbreaking upgrade, only oled is but smaller wide gamut oled isn't available yet.

The AW3423DW qd-oled checks most boxes but is wide screen, has an annoying menu bug that presists even with new firmware (have to turn it off and manually refresh the pixels) and software that adjusts text shaprness. The cost of smaller oled is unlikely to go down anytime soon.

I mean its the newer model for the pg279q
    And the best 1440p 27"
Or if you want something cheaper
The msi mag274qrf-qd is a good option but you need to calibrate

depending on how much you wanna spend, all of these would be an upgrade

m27q p for 280usd best bang for buck by far in this range
mag274qrf-QD for 390usd wider color gamut
    m27q x for 460usd 240hz
    pg279qm 750usd 240hz wider color gamut

there are 2 monitors coming out that i consider to be quite a leap in q4, cooler master FQS 1440p 144hz miniled hdr for 800usd, and the 4k version FUS for 1200usd (ignore if you don't care about hdr)

I have this exact monitor and love it, that sucks you've had this issue, I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. I have occasionally checked around for comparable monitors to it and more recently was looking at them for getting a second display due to this one going from a $700 monitor to now being $1000 minimum for a brand new model. There were a couple I found that had similar or better specs for a decent price. Here are a couple I thought about getting, you can also just input your requirements in like PCPartPicker and get a solid list to choose from. The pricing for monitors with those specs have come down a significant margin as well.

at 1440p for this price non can compete with it
even the Sasmsung Odyssey G7 1440p 240hz 32" VA panel Curved is worse than the ASUS
but if you want to spend more and get even better monitors you have the Alienware OLED
and the new Samsung Odyssey G7 and G8 neo but in 4k thats why i didnt mention
but again for 1440p 27" right now in the mean time the ASUS is the best

I have a 1080Ti in my main rig. I use DaVinci Resolve and Blender a lot. 11GB VRAM is a bit marginal sometimes. I'd really love to see a 3080 with 16GB VRAM.

    Can't afford a 3090.
