Since the pic for shorting the psu seems to be down, here's a link showing it step by step.

Of course you can. Just insulate the wires with electric tape after.

That sounds really good but can't find it anywwhere. Not even in the EKWB store. End of life, it seems.

As for your setup, do you have it as intake? I already thought about it and came to your exact conclusion: my card is going to boil in there. But having it as outtake and the upper and back (unfiltered) fans as intake seems like a really bad idea for the card too.

    >Theoretically you could stick with your currenbt cooler and delid and relid with liquid metal if you are willing to do that with a proper tool
Fuuuuck no. I'm not going to risk the warranty on my cpu.

    Thanks for the suggestions man.

Silence is secondary, even tertiary. But I'll keep it in mind

    Thanks

True that. I was going to keep my current cooler anyway.

Looks pretty cool (literally), but that whole installation guide makes my pee pee shrivel in fear a bit. Plus I don't think my case has brackets to install the pump, unfortunately.

brokencross got a reaction from chowderblue in To watercool a gpu, do you need the backplate?
The backplate didn't trap the heat, or at least that wasn't the main issue, since even the regular 1070 SCs didn't have backplates. They only sent those additional bigger thermal pads to apply in the back in order to help dissipate additional heat from the VRM mosfets. The issue was the lack of active cooling on the VRMs themselves (i.e.: there was nothing that dissipated the heat from the VRMs to the heatsink base) which was down to poor design.

The backplate original function is to add rigidity to the PCB, that's why heavier cards usually come with them installed. Looks are secondary.

brokencross got a reaction from Matu20 in Which MB should I buy? Help please!
Stay away from gigabyte cards this generation. EVGA coolers are also underperforming.
I've had a EVGA 1070 FTW before all the VRM issues that I managed to exchange and got a MSI gaming X which runs much cooler.
The most reliable mobos come from MSI and Gigabyte, according to failure rates.
ASUS makes good motherboards but if you have an issue you're in to a world of pain because their RMA/Support is absolute garbage.
ASRock is also good, and they don't make value boards only anymore, since they aren't no longer affiliated with ASUS.

^This is the best advice you can get.
Everything on a computer should click and align in place at the first try. If it doesn't it's because something you're doing is wrong. Take the time and and double-check if needed. Don't rush nor try to muscle in anything. This doesn't apply to molex and some pci-e cables, tho.

Anyway, if one stand-off isn't properly aligned it means it may be in direct contact with the PCB which is bad since it can cause a short. Take the mobo out and try to align it properly. I'm betting your I/O shield isn't properly fitted in.

As for the cpu, buy a thermal paste tube and clean the heatsink and cpu thoroughly with alcohol.

Does it, really? The comparison standards they used are shady to say the least.
I'll wait for the retail cpus to hit the market for some unbiased perf benchmarks. Then we'll see if AMD has really done it or if we'll have to wait for the next """""big""""" thing.

brokencross reacted to corrado33 in Ryzen at stock without turbo beats intel 6900k Goodbye intel
I will never trust benchmark results put on by the company advertising their own product. You know why? They sure as hell cherrypicked that chip. They may claim it's running at X.XX GHz, but when the chip comes out, it'll probably be stock Y.YY GHz (downclocked) so that the bulk of the chips actually work. They probably ran tests for weeks on what type of media would show off their type of chip the best. They may have even messed with the handbrake coding to make it work better with their chips. SO many things could be done to make sure their chip comes out on top.

These are all thing I expect to happen at places like this.

I'll wait for actual benchmarks by real people doing real workloads.

And even so... it's great if AMD puts out a good chip. I mean, for years they haven't even touched Intel, that's not a lot of bragging rights. It's like the underdog team in sports finally winning a game when the favorite to win has won for the past 20 years. (and will probably continue to win for the next 20)

Hm, WD is pretty reliable in general. Never had a WD drive fail on me.
Even Seagate is upping their game on the larger drives nowadays. But even then I wouldn't buy from them, tbh.

Btw, HGST is owned by WD.

Let me just turn on my PC and I'll post the smart status of that green.
