  1. I would guess that the RAM disk option got switched on during the update you mentioned. That would improve speeds by a lot.
  2. Is it going on right now? (link?) Because that sounds fantastic.
  3. Odd, A quick Google search did not show me a Best Buy deal for this. And amazon is currently selling it for $77 almost $10 more than mass drops lowest price of $66.99. Were are you seeing it for less?
  4. Nice drop going on right now for the Logitech G502 Mouse. $66.99 at lowest price, normally $79.99 Update: Thanks @ Outdated: You have to make an account to get access to the drop. https://www.massdrop.com/

  6. Thanks for the help gusy! Do you think it would it be easier go for two years with de-inized water instead the Pastel?
  7. Sorry, I didn't know that would be a problem. Mod fixed it for us.
  8. Hey guys, I've been looking at doing my first Liquid loop and I’ve seen a lot of places where people recommend flushing the loop every six months. That said, I've seen Mayhems Pastel coolant advertized that you can leave it in the system for about 2 years. I don't mind $40 every two years to fill the loop, but I would never do that every six months. What do you guys think? If I put Mayhems Pastel in the loop can I leave the loop alone for 2 years? The coolant I was looking at specificity is Mayhems Pastel Coolant - Ice White Thanks!
  9. The mod mic is back on Massdrop for another round, I missed it the first time so I'm glad it's back up. You have to sign up for MassDrop to get access to it's drops: https://www.massdrop.com/ Check out Linus review of it here:
  10. I just found a beauty of an SSD...should I save up, add it to my rig, and ditch the other SSDs? I would probably have to drop a GPU or something to get it more in line with the budget, (which I probably don't really want to do.) but everyone likes to dream right. Intel SSD DC P3500 2-3GB/s read $1.50/gb
  11. Triple slot? Doesn't that mean you would need 9 PCIe slots to run this card in 3-way sli? It still looks like a boss though! I'd go with the ZOTAC AMP! Omega just because I like the mettle guard and don't need all them flashy lights. The 900s are great in general and when Nvidia releases the 8GB version there will be no stopping them!
  12. 8Gb 980/970 are expected in November-December. I might have a look at them.
  13. I've been bouncing between the $250 1080p (Current) and the Asus PB278q 1440p for $450. With 4K becoming cheaper, I'll probably go with the 1080p and upgrade when they get a 4K IPS for under $600. $450 is just to much for a screen that's only slightly better than 1080p. Star crusher, short and sweet. What do you think about "Project Solar Mass (A1.4)" , (Class (A) stares have a 1.4 solar mass which is in the range of a white dwarf.) #Wikipedia. Because beeing over technical is fun! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_classification
  14. Wow, Thanks for taking the time to show me all that. It looks like that took a bit to put together. You're absolutely right about the scaling problems on 3/4-way SLI. If this was going to be a gaming rig I would roll two 980s in a hart beat. However, my application is looking mostly at Blender and video editing work. Blender's GPU rendering is unique from the game space. It is a content creation platform for making animations and 3D assets. When you render an image using Blender it send a part of the image as a "tile" to each GPU, then the GPU works independently from the others to complete its tile and send it back. So Scaling is much closer to 90-100% for every new card when your using blender. It's a little like how Cinebench brakes down the image according to the number of CPU core, only the "cores" are actually full GPUs. Blender actually works faster when you disable SLI and, except for extreme cases, is unaffected by the PCIe buss speed 16x 8x 4x 1x <_<. That's why I'm looking at the raw GFLOPS power of three 970s over two 980s for the same price. (And it shouldn't be to shabby for gaming either right.) B) Humm...maybe the name is not the most descriptive name. What about something like "Project Star Dust?" As it has a lot of black and a few white LED fans as "stars." Doesn't quiet instil a seance of power though.
  15. So when I start to build this thing should I open a new thread in the "build log" section? I think that's the normal thing to do right?
  16. Hey! Asus just replied! Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. My name is ****** and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem. In my opinion, if you install three or more chassis fans in your computer, it would be able to help to cooler the whole system with three video cards in SLI. So Looks like were good for 3-way 970s
  17. Ok, so Asus Didn't get back to me in there customary 48hs. Now with the weekend and all, It might be a while before I receive a reply. Granted, I did ask them to solve one of the computers world most debated mysteries; the heat from 3-way SLI. Maybe there doing bench testing, or maybe there going to ignore me for being silly and not water cooling them all. In any event, I'll give them some more time. Options at this point are: 1. Go with 3-way Asus SLI and hope they don't all fry. (current) 2. Go with 3-way Reference and hope they don't all fry. <_< 3. wait for Asus to make a PCB for there 980s and do 2-way SLI. 4. wait for EK or someone to make a water block for the Asus 970 PCB and go with 3-way water cooling. (How much would that cost? $500?) 5. wait for December (when I was going to build the rig.) and Take another assessment of the GPU world. <-- The ninja waits in the shadows for his chance to strike.
  18. To fun. Are you looking at water cooling anything? Well, Less preference for the same price is hard to swallow. By the time I'll want to do an upgraded (and that should be a while.) these cards will be "old" and I probably won't want to just throw in another one. With all the positive pressure in the case, I'm hoping the airflow will throw most of the heat out the back. That's the theory anyway. Still no word from Asus.
  19. Wow, Thanks man. I hadn't seen this constraint until just now. Yea, I've sent a question into Asus asking for there recommendations on running 3-way SLI using there after-market coolers. I'm just hoping that they card do get so hot as to necessitate losing the Asus PCB in favour of a reference card cooler. I'll post there response here as it may be helpful for others. B)
