  1. This is my 2nd post. I see that my computer runs usually on 1 core unless I'm doing something intense, then it runs on all four. I really only want to see how far I can push this computer, "safely". I've ran the benchmark using this utility with various settings and the most I have achieved is around 1000 "marks". I really haven't understood what it is that I'm changing to make numbers go up. Aside from the fact that when I change the processor cache ratio, the turbo boost speed goes up. I've watched plenty of videos but none show EXACTLY what I have and I don't want to use the pre-configured MSI OC Genie crap. I would like to know what, on this screen, is it that I'm supposed to change. This is what I'm looking at Thank you. .
  2. Yeah the features on the MSI board that I have are seriously nuts to me. There is a fast charge device (phones) thing, a bunch of 3.0 ports, insanely good 6 port audio with digital port, easy OC'ing, hardware monitoring like I've never seen, stress testing.....love it.
  3. I was more or less asking for specifics, like the kind of specifics that went into my post. Not really looking for one sentence answers, was asking for specific numbers, voltages, ratios, all of that. I'm still very confused, I do have the MSI/Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and this is what I'm currently looking at. I have the MSI Gaming APP OC mode enabled along with a XMP profile for my ram through the tuning utility. That's pretty much all I've done but I want to do a lot more.   4. Hey guys I was searching around this forum for information on this very exact subject. I have the i5-4690K with a MSI Z97 Gaming 7 MOBO, and 16 GB of 2400 MHZ Corsair Vengeance Pro Memory. I'm not new to computers by any means but am very new to OC'ing. As of now I'm just running with the MSI OC genie, which from what I understand does a mild but very stable overclock on just the CPU. I think I understand what it is I need to change but I feel like the wording is different from what I'm looking at in the MSI Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I do see what looks like what a multiplier would be of 35X, is this correct ? Also, with CPUID HW Monitor I see that my voltages are as follows AVCC and 3VCC: 3.344, my CPU VCore fluctuates between 0.808 and 1.056. I'm really just asking to confirm but these are the things that I would want to change right ? I would probably start by setting everything back to default, and start with changing the AVCC ? to what ? What is AVCC ? My BIOS is just as confusing as this, however I don't think I can screen capture it efficiently, is this what I use to change the Core voltage and other stuff ? I'm really just looking for some serious help, I've looked all over on how to OC using my MOBO but the videos seem to be slightly outdated and don't show the same menu options as what I'm currently looking at.   5. I personally have the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 with that CPU. I kinda had a bit of extra money and splurged just a little, being right around $170 dollars ( which really isn't that much considering what you CAN spend on a MOBO ). The MSI software is pretty awesome in my opinion. Makes monitoring and overclocking pretty stupid easy. Even if you don't really want to mess with everything but still get some kind of OC, you can use the MSI gaming app and set it to OC mode or physically push the OC genie button the MOBO itself. The BIOS is pretty nice with the ability to have multiple profiles and the works. It's also all black with red accents here and there with the gnarly MSI gaming dragon dude. I honestly love the SHeeeeeit out of my build.
  6. Hey guys ! I'm a long time viewer of LinusTechTips as well as all the other channels. I've used computers tremendously throughout my life, with my first game being Wolfenstein on our first MAC. Again,, during my teenage years I built, sold, and lived computers. However, overclocking wasn't something that I ever had the opportunity to learn about. Due to some terribly unfortunate events, I've been out of the PC game for about 6 or so years. So, recently I acquired a decent amount of money to build a computer. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to spend as well as the specific parts. Here is the build. TLDR : I've used computers nearly my whole life, but have no overclocking experience. Specifically things like CPU Core Voltage + Changing to Adaptive Mode, CPU Core Ratio. CPU Cache Ratio. I could totally be a big idiot and this could be the wrong video to be watching. I know that my MOBO has a couple pre-configured overclocking profiles with the MSI Gaming App. It shows OC and Gaming mode. I also keep getting this message saying that I need to install my CPU Chipset Driver, which I thought I already had which is really confusing. Nevertheless, I really just want to do a mild overclock. First just to see what kind of quality processor it is out of the litter other i5-4690K's. Second, just to get it at somewhere that is for one stable, and two will make my components last as long as humanly possible (Yes, I'm aware that OC can be bad for longevity). I know I don't really want to overclock my video card or my memory really at all if at all possible. I'm not sure if you have to increase voltage to memory if you increase it to the cpu as well ? All these things I would love to learn about but I just can't seem to find anything on my processor combined with my mobo. I've even just looked for OC guides for my motherboard and I haven't found anything that goes into the depth that Linus does in the above posted link. TLDR : Help me OverClock my Processor please.
