Currently using the surface pro 4 as my laptop for collage and i cant be happier. the screen is just amazing for normal web and documents ( i have the i5 4gb ram one) . for programing it works perfect with IDE's like Netbeans and visual Studio and more. i have not run VM on it as i did not have the need for it yet. THe keyboard typecover is way better then most laptops i have used and even prefer it to most cheap desktop keyboards. the battery life is good not amazing i get around 4 houres on 50% screen running with Wifi on and 2 IDE's open but the charger is so small i don't mind taking it with me. it can even run older game or indie games perfectly in off time ( the performance does dip down when its not plugged in but that's only in really intensive games and it can even run 4k youtube without being plugged in. if you want to play games i would suggest you install intel drivers and add the custom resolution of (1368x912) this is the native resolution/2 so it looks really good when you want to play games.

But i am really happy with the surface pro 4 and i think the screen is the prefect size for portable.

As a Computer Science student in Uni, I've gotten by with an i3 laptop with 8GB of ram for over two years of programming (C, C++, Java) and running VM to program in assembly.
The laptop itself cost me 350USD brand new...(wasn't even on sale)(closer to 500USD after buying an SSD and ram upgrade)

So I don't think you need to buy a Surface Pro, it isn't necessary for Uni, you should probably get a cheaper laptop that performs just as well and re-allocate that money elsewhere.

4gb should be fine since the VMs will most likely be lightweight Linux VMs (and you likely won't even need to work in the VM for all/most assignments). I just need to work in a VM for my security class (since some standard OS safety features are disabled), and for most other classes I just need to test in a VM (to guarantee that my code will pass the tests when run on the autograders).

But I would definitely consider the SP3 if there's any meaningful price difference.
The SP IS worthwhile if he wants to take handwritten notes. If he doesn't intend to take handwritten notes, then I agree with this.

I was in a very similar position as you about a year ago, and I opt'd for a 64gb i3 SP3, and for note taking and basic school work it's more than powerful enough. I also have a Mac that I do most of my coding on, but I have done the occassional assignment on my SP3.

So, no I don't think you should feel bad about getting an SP4 with the SP5 just about to launch (other than that you couldve saved a bit of money). In terms of power even the SP3 is overkill. (I would personally look into a cheap SP3 even tbh).

Or running a VM depending on the assignment.

The first thing I would do is figure out for sure if its your battery thats the problem, with an iphone theres a program you can download that tells you all of your battery stats, including its current capacity compared to the capacity it had when it was new. I don't know exactly what you would use for android, but considering how open it is compared to iOS you should be able to find one pretty easily.

If you do find that the battery is much weaker than it should have been, the second thing you should do is decide if you want to replace it your self or pay a cell phone repair shop to do it for you (I'd guess they'd charge somewhere around $50, My iPhone 5 replacement was only $25, but they'll probably want more because of that edge screen, idk). Watch battery replacement videos on youtube and decide if its something you think you can do on your own. Just remember that if you crack your screen or cut a ribbon cable or something its your own fault, and youll have to pay more for replacement parts. (Luckily theres nothing you can do that cant be fixed by throwing more money at it)

Finally, and to answer your original question, always go with OEM parts if possible. They may be more expensive or not look as good on paper, but they are almost always the best choice. When they designed your S6, Samsung had a large team of engineers and other very smart people working for months to design the best battery they could get. These eBay/Amazon ones sell in very low volumes, and are usually just small batteries with a new sticker pasted over the old one so it looks like a big battery. Its false advertising, but China is a big place and they're not likely to get caught so they just keep doing it

I just installed a CPU+GPU water cooling loop on this case (I am currently running the water loop for an hour to get out the bubbles).  It could be a bit of a tight fit if you go with two RADs, but it is doable.  In my scenario I went with one triple rad on top.  I quickly found that the rear IO interfered with my thicker radiator and I had to shift the whole radiator as far forward as it would go to fit it in.  This meant I was only able to install 6 of 12 screws through the fans to the radiator and had to remove the top front fan from the case...

It might be wise to go with a thinner rad on top and make sure the ends of the radiator aren't too bulky.  The placement of the rear IO might also require a top radiator that has the water ports away from the very corners.  The front of the case on the other hand has plenty of space for a 'monsta' radiator if that is what you are going for.

The case is designed to pull air in from the front and out from the top.  Even with the space constraints, it is the nicest case I have ever purchased and far from the most expensive.

I would keep the 770 until you move to 1440p. The 770 will play all moden games on mid-high settings at 1080p and will do better with the new DX12.

If you're satisfied with the 770's performance right now, just keep it. You're looking at playing mainly AAA title games so you wouldn't have to worry too much about SLI compatibility so it is still pretty viable to go SLI if you can find a 770 for a good deal.

I don't think you need upgrade. I too have 770 2GB and that card is beast for 1080p gaming. No reason to upgrade in my opinion.

If you move towards 1440p you should save up and get the 980ti, which would set you up for many game titles in the future.  If you remain at 1080p then a gtx 770 should stay fine, of course if you want to be in the high med-high range in terms of graphic quality.
