That CPU will do great for 60FPS+ 1440p High/Ultra settings...and the GTX 1080 has a bit more punch than the 2060 and it has more video memory, but it doesn't support the RTX features.
6GB in most games is enough for 1440p without suffering from stuttering but in some titles it's limiting you already...maybe you set textures to high instead of ultra and it's fine i don't know...
I think i would go with a nice second hand card like a MSI gaming or Asus strix or someting...GTX1080
 
 
I was using the gigabyte windforce GTX 1080 previously for 1440p gaming and it was awesome at that...with 4.2ghz 4770K at the time.
 
The experience is head and shoulders above anything you can get on a console especially if you have a good gaming monitor.
 
I've read the DLSS doesnt look as good as true 1440p with light Anti-Aliasing (which honestly is all you need at 27'')

as for PC upgrade vs Xbox... choose this based on what you want from a machine, not from the hardware specs. both are 2 different platforms with their own unique pros and cons. and cannot be directly compared. If you want to have your cake and eat it youd own both and xbox and a PC for best of both worlds...
 
as for the 4K question, neither the 2060 or 1080 are aimed at 4K AAA Gaming. Yes yoi will get them to run on those resolutions by lowering the graphics quality, but if you're doing that it kind of defeats the point of going for a super high resolution. Based on ZERO experience and just stuff i've read on the internet, if i was to choose between those 2 cards i'd go 2060 as its a newer platform, and potentionally DLSS could mean 4K becomes achievable in the future even tho right now its really not a thing.

except for this stupid crytocurrency mining shortage, the 1060 shouldn't even be considered an option anymore for how much they cost.

i think youre very confused here. both make high end and durable cards, but this generation amd has focused on the mid range cards. apple and android makes literally no sense here. also, thye 580 is better than the 1060 in pretty much all ways. its got freesync, beats it in many dx11 games, and beats it in almost all dx12 games and all vulcan games  

are you kidding? this is like the second best CPU for gaming the haswell IPC is really good and the 4790K is a stong quad-core with hyper-threading and is only slightly behind the 6700k/7700k and it overclock very well with many if not most chips... for gaming it's plenty go crazy on the GPU if you can afford a 1440p Gsync monitor do that and get a 980ti/1070/1080 and sell your 970.

Not really, ram speed doesnt matter much with Intel. 

Don't worry about bottlenecks too much.

Technically yes as the GPU in the PS4 pro does have more "processors" but when was AMD's stream processors ever equal to Nvidia's cuda cores?

So can your 970...you do realise that your 970 can probably 60fps in most games at 4K lowest settings right? Even a fucking 950 would do 4K in some games...not very many but that's not the point.

Your CPU will be good for another 3 years atleast. GPU not so much.

Rise of the Tomb Raider.  Not as good as Tomb Raider (2013), but still pretty damn fun.

Rainbow 6 or BF1 [more serious, higher learning curve], Overwatch [can be casual or serious (quickplay vs competitive), easier to get good at]

get a 1070 and a bigger ssd, your build is good. 

I went from a 750ti and a g3258 to a 4690k and a 1070 and i love it. a 970 probably isnt worth the upgrade at this point
Maybe when the 1170 comes out or if they release a 1070ti maybe even wait for vega.

I think the point is that the active range your laptop's integrated card can seek connections at is far larger than both the range of your desktop's card and the output of the router's 5GHz band.
