  1. We managed to convert one of my friends from Playstation to PC. He's been having a great time with CS:GO and LoL, and recently wanted to try Overwatch during the beta. But alas the PC he is currently using has finally shown it's weakness as Overwatch refused to run on the cheap AMD card in it. I have created 2 different builds for him. One sub $500 AMD/Nvidia (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hnr2Fd) and one more expensive but much better Intel/Nvidia (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/2VBQzM) built around the 1070. His original budget was $500 but he is willing to move up if it will give him a significant performance boost and more future proofed build. I'd also like to wait a bit to see how the rest of the 1000 series lineup performs and is priced. The 1060 might be a better fit price wise (my 660 is still kicking). Anything else I should add to his build? Cpu cooler possibly or maybe a cheaper quad core for the first build? Thanks in advance for input. Also I'd like to stick with Nvidia cards as I have found them to be much easier to use and more feature rich (GeForce experience/shadowplay) even though AMD may be cheaper.
  2. Thanks, I just needed to know if you could use the speakers like a standalone set. I can only use the displayport because I have it plugged into my laptop.
  3. I have an Asus VG248QE 144Hz monitor with built in speakers. The monitor has a 3.5mm input labeled as pc audio in as well as a headphone output. Is there any way to run an audio signal in this order to the internal speakers while using displayport for display signal? 1. Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 usb sound card 2. Pc audio in jack on the monitor 3. Monitor's speakers. The speakers work as I have been able to use them with the display port audio device. I know I could use the displayport audio but I want the sound to go through the sound card.
  4. Just try it, for the good of mankind.
  5. I like the placement of the tiger in the center and the out of focus background. However the background seems to have a wierd circular and almost paintbrush effect. 8.5/10, would use as wallpaper. Here's my first post here. I have no idea what the settings were but it was taken with a Sony DSC-HX50V in auto mode at the 2015 Indianapolis 500.
  6. @exercutor5 My thoughts exactaly. Unless your company has the best confrence calls while playing Rocket League.
  7. I recently bought the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 4K-053. And while it's a great laptop for games there are quite a few reasons that I may end up switching to the new Blade at some point. The 4K screen is beautiful, but it sucks power and there are many scaling issues that come along with it. With a 15.6 inch laptop 1080p perfect for basically every task. The battery life is not great at all. After a bunch of tweaking I have been able to max it out at about 3 hours of web browsing at medium brightness and powersaver mode. I was unable to find the battery size anywhere online but after opening it up I found a 6 cell 11.4V 4150mAh/47.31Wh battery. This is dwarfed by the new Blade's which has a 70Wh battery. The performance between the two laptops should be almost identical as the both have an i7-6700HQ, 16Gb DDR4, a GTX 970M 6Gb DDR5 and an m.2 ssd slot. The MSI has the capability to take an internal HDD but unless you really need that the two laptops are very comparable. My last gripe with the MSI is the fact that it feels quite fragile due to it's thin form factor. I love the looks of it but as a student it has become more of a desktop than a laptop that I take to classes. @Fungal The two laptops are extremely similar but the blade ends up being about the same as the MSI. Mine totaled out to about $2000 which is the same price as the Blade.

  9. Rig- MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 4K-053 CPU- i7 6700HQ @2.6GHz Ram- 16GB DDR4 GPU- Nvidia 970M 6GB GDDR5 (Steam VR performance test only sees the Intel Hd 530 Graphics for some reason but the benchmark runs using the DGPU. Also, the 970M has 6GB of vram although speccy only sees 2GB.) Score- 3.3 (Medium)
  10. I bought one last month and I only received a DVI, power and 3.5mm audio cable.
  11. You can turn it into a bench power supply. http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Lab-Bench-Power-Supply/
  12. Spotify has started a promotion to push their premium service to users who are still using the free version. Until Febuary 28th 2016 (or while supplies last) any free user with an account that has never had premium or a free trial is elligible for a "free" chromecast with the purchase of premium for 3 months. The total price is about $29.97 it seems like a good deal if anyone was thinking about getting a chromecast as they are typically about $35 and you get premium for 3 months. https://www.spotify.com/us/chromecast-offer/ http://www.cnet.com/news/spotify-offers-free-chromecast-streamer-with-the-purchase-of-3-month-premium-subscription/
  13. I recently got a laptop with a usb type c port but I don't have anything to connect to it. The drive would be great for fast external storage.
  14. This is a good video that compares one of those cheap kits to an expensive oscilloscope.
  15. The laptop is less than 4 months old, and constantly is on a cooling pad, so the gpu is not dying. Other games run just fine, Siege is the only problem. I can record my screen with shadowplay in any other game but Siege loads nothing on the graphical side so recording is impossible with it at the moment. Laptop model:MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 4K-053 It does have a 4K screen which might be an issue. However every other game that has had an issue with the screen has run just fine when windows is set to 1920x1080. Siege does not load in either 1080p or 4K. Update: All ubisoft games have this issue. I tried to launch both FarCry 3 and 4 both had the same problem.
  16. I recently bought Rainbow Six Siege via Uplay. Everytime I go to launch the game it loads as a windowed black screen with audio and a navigitable menu (I can hear buttons clicking and selecting if I press enter and use the arrow keys). https://gyazo.com/9bd9b4adb735b59dddca9825001c399c I have narrowed the problem down to my 970m as the game loads properly with my integrated Intel 530 graphics however it is unplayable. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. Kova looks badass. And everyone knows RGB leds help you win CS:GO matches.
  18. Having a small form factor is the most important aspect of the case. I do like the Aerocool Xpredator but it seems about the same size as my current case. Something along the lines of a Bitfenix Prodigy m was the size I was looking for.
  19. I will be going to college soon and would like to continue gaming while I am there. However my current laptop will not cut it, so while I am there I would like to continue using my desktop until I get a gaming laptop when the new 1000 series mobile gpus come out. Alienware's case is big and heavy so I would like to downsize to something smaller without having to replace any parts (other than possibly the power supply and cpu cooler). I planned to move the Alienware motherboard(supposedly m-ATX) my current cpu(Intel i7 3820@3.6gHz LGA2011),current gpu (GTX 660 with Nvidia cooler) as well as one SSD and one 3.5 in. HDD, to a new case that was smaller and lighter. If anyone can forsee any problems or has any case suggestions under $150 it would be extremely helpful. Thanks!
