  1. My first thought is that ethernet may not provide enough voltage or current to power an led. Some sort of amplifier circuit would probably be needed to ensure a reliable connection. Secondly ethernet and most data connections are a two way street, data is uploaded and downloaded so there would need to be some sort of reciever and transmitter on both ends of the cable. (I'm not sure if all 8 wires are used for transmission and reception but its a safe bet that some play double duty) Both of these problems can be solved with a transciever that the ethernet cable is plugged into on either end. This diagram from http://purelifi.com/lifi-products/li-1st/ illustrates where the transciever would be placed in the system. Digital data transmission is difficult to reliably replicate with a diy solution. As this is a school project and it seems that you need a working example or something that illustates how the theory behind the system works. I came across a similar project awhile ago from Make Magazine, that involved transmitting audio across a room with a laser. It operates on the same principle but is analog as opposed to digital. Here's the links to the project article and a video by Kipkay on how to put it together. Make: Magazine Article: http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol16/?folio=67&pg=69#pg69

Hey i just ran into your rainbow six siege scre…

I honestly don't remember but it had something to do with either reinstalling nvidia drivers and software or a windows update that came out soon after. I really should get in the habit of posting updates for issues once they're resolved. Sorry if this isn't very helpful.
  3. I recently got home from a trip and turned on my laptop (it was not on the trip. it sat unplugged and off for 5 days.) Once booted and startup programs began running it crashed with the error: page_fault_in_nonpaged_area "ksaud.sys". The ksaud.sys is related to my Creative Soundblaster 5.1 usb sound card I have reinstalled the driver and software for the card however the BSOD still happens at startup. Unplugging the card at startup and plugging it back in after everything has loaded avoids the BSOD. Any ideas on how to fix the error?
  4. The final project for my college electronics class was to build a bench power supply from a kit. However to get 100 or better you also had to add parts to it sutch as a voltage meter or power indicator led. Try building a kit like that then see if you can add something to it that it was missing or that you want it to have. A good book for starting out is Make:Electronics by Charles Platt. I think it even has some arduino stuff in it too. Get a breadboard and some assorted components and make some simple circuts like an led flasher. Start simple and once you have a basic understanding of what parts are and what they do designing your own circuits and building from other's schematics will become much easier.
  5. I get 500mb a month and I use my phone as a gps and end up with 100mb left at the end of the month.
  6. I was running a cpu monitor while playing and it only listed 30-40% usage on both the cpu and dGPU. Also the server may cap the fps but a friend of mine playing on the same server at the same time in the same location on the map gets 40+fps with a 4790k/GTX 970.
  7. I know Arma 3 is not well optimised as well as the fact that sub 40 fps is the norm for most people. However, recently I have noticed a significant drop into the unplayable fps range (10-20 fps). However I would expect that a modern gaming laptop would be able to at least run the game at a decent framerate without constant stuttering and lag. This is in single player showcase missions not workshop missions. So multiplayer server issues or giant KotH battles aren't the current issue. I have an MSI Gs60GhostPro with a i7 6700HQ@2.6GHz and a gtx 970m 6GB. The Issue seems to be a cpu bottleneck as 200% sampling does nothing to the framerate.
  8. @Hackentosher I'm using the KK2 so most of the functions can be adjusted on the controller itself. It seems to drift back and to the left but mostly left.
  9. I built a tri-copter and it seems to have a similar problem drifting on takeoff and while hovering. Adjusting the trim and leveling seems to stop most of the drift but without a gps and compass it's gonna drift a little bit no matter what you do to it.
  10. My 2TB usb 3.0 portable Toshiba drive that I use for backups has been disconnecting and making a scratching noise at times. All my data is backed up twice so I'm not going to lose anything. Does anyone have a recomendation for a new portable 2TB drive? Maybe even a usb 3.1 type C? Thanks
  11. I got an MSI gs60 Ghost Pro 4k. The laptop performs well but battery life is the absolute worst. If I were you I'd make sure you get something with a decent battery life, you'll regret it later if you don't. From what I hear the blade is great though.
  12. Everytime I've spray painted rubber or gotten some spraypaint on a cable it's turned out badly. The paint will stay tacky or will come off when the cable is bent. Maybe use some black heat shrink tubing or liquid electrical tape/plasti-dip to cover the cable.
  13. Set your windows sensitivity to 6 with mouse acceleration off. Set your dpi to 400 for games and then just move up or down depending on what you feel is best. Being able to do a 180 in one swipe of the mouse is a good place to be I've found.
  14. The screw is 16mm from the base of the head. It works fine. It comes with some plastic spacers that work like drywall anchors.
  15. The screw is16mm from the base of the head.
  16. The enclosure is rated as drip proof so it's not meant to be submerged.
  17. Rust or Bust is a great server.
  18. About the lack of battery chargers I have this (https://www.amazon.com/Wasabi-Power-Battery-Charger-International/dp/B011SVB67U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1466197905&sr=8-3&keywords=yi+battery) for my 1st Gen. Yi (the 2.7k one) and it works great! I'm not sure about the Yi 2 but I think it's safe to assume that they'll release one for the Yi 2 soon.
  19. It has a matte screen with a glossy bezel. I havent had any issues from my window but the sun never shines directly on the screen.
  20. I have the Asus VG248QE. It's 24" so unless you have strict size constraints it should be close enough. The color is ok after adding a custom color profile I found online.
  21. For now they might not but a quad core will serve you into the future much better than the i3.
  22. This is going to be my friends new pc. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KjDnQV It's under 600 leaving plenty for a kb/mouse/monitor. At this point I'd reccomend at least a quad core cpu instead of the i3.
  23. I just built a tricopter that can hold a GoPro and it wasn't that hard to make. I modified this design http://makezine.com/projects/build-your-first-tricopter/.
  24. I have a sound blaster omni 5.1 that I use as an external sound card for my laptop. The audio source automatically switches to the speakers when I unplug my headphones from it. It sits on my desk so I dont need to go underneath to unplug anything. I know it's a hardware solution not a software one but it's just another way of doing the same task.
