  1. Turns out that the RAM kit isn't on the QVL list for that motherboard. Kind of a bummer, since you'd think a popular manufacturer like Corsair would be supported. But I guess you live and you learn (to check QVL support beforehand in this case). Thanks for the tip and have a good one!
  2. Also the BIOS is from 08/16/2023. Shouldn't be a need to update, right?
  3. To the questions: -Motherboard and RAM were brand new -I did a fresh new install -I did install all the drivers from MSI
  4. Turning off XMP seems to have done the trick. Only tried it for like 10 minutes now, but that's longer than it would've taken to crash before. Could it be that the CPU (Ryzen 5 1600) can't handle the RAM's XMP speed (3600 MHz)?
  5. Another weird thing I've noticed is that my USB devices don't get any power, as long as my PC's turned off. Though I don't know if that is an error, or something I just took for granted from my older motherboard.
  6. Well since it's a different socket, I switched the CPU, motherboard and RAM. GPU, storage and power supply, as well as case, coolers and stuff remained unchanged.
  7. The GPU is sitting at similar temperatures and I was already using it with my older CPU (i5-4690K), without any crashes.
  8. Hey guys, I got a Ryzen 5 1600 (used, but worked fine) from a friend that upgraded to a newer CPU. Got it in a MSI B450 Motherboard with two sticks of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16 GB RAM in tadem with a Radeon R9 390X. After installing the new parts, i got random crashes (screen freeze, with a few seconds of load noise from the speakers, then just black screen and silence until i restart). I wrote that off to my windows install having problems with the drivers, since I changed from intel to amd, so I got a fresh Windows install. That did stop the crashes from randomly happening, but they still happen under load, like gaming (and very quickly after launching i.e. Witcher 3). I checked HWInfo and at the time of crashing the CPU is sitting comfortably at around 45 °C. What's your advice to try out as possible error causes? Thanks in advance!
  9. The CPU is literally free yeah. Sounds like a sweet deal...would that board then also be compatible with a newer AM4 chip, once I'd want to upgrade it?
  10. That was exactly what I had planned. I have an old Intel 4th Gen CPU and thought moving to AM4 with this CPU (which has twice the performance of my current PC and should be enough for some time) and then having the option to upgrade to a newer AM4 chip in the future. Do no newer AM4 boards at all support the Ryzen 5 1600, as well as the compatibility with newer chips?
  11. Oh damn, thanks for the heads-up. I'm not sure, as I'm getting it used from a friend. How would I be able to tell?
  12. Fair point, I'll definitely try it first when I get the CPU! But I got the feeling one way or another I'll need a new GPU soon.
  13. The motherboard is still up in the air right now. Are there big differences within AM4 motherboards? Futureproof GPU now and upgrading the CPU some years down the line sounds good to me.
  14. Currently I have a Radeon R9 390x. "Canyourunit" told me it wouldn't be enough for either game, but I don't know how accurate that is.
