  1. Thanks for the nice responses that you guys are giving and i hope to hear some more, I personally don't need to have a windowed case since i usually have it sitting next to my left side so i'd have to move over that side just to see inside it, so i just go with more of performance rather than flash. With that in mind please do let me know what you guys think. I do think that i'd personally start with 1 monitor and acquire more monitors as i get around to it. Thanks, Dave
  2. Hi all, Dave again from Minnesota, USA looking at a PC design that i might be tempted to create, but would like to hear all of your advice on it as to see whether or not this rig will be epic or a dud. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zNf4BP This is what i was looking at creating. My goal is to make a Gaming PC that will replace my current on that I'm very satisfied with, but i plan on giving it away to my folks so that they can have something (my ma has to be able to play her puzzles and slots now). Games that i play = GTAV , all the Fallouts (with heavy mods), Titanfall 2, Gears 4, StarCraft 2, Metal Gear, and much more. I also want to get into mod creation for myself. The other thing that interests my fancy is making 3D and anime shorts, got to get better at though. I will want to play my games at Ultra settings at 1080p with higher frame rates. I was planing on going dual monitor, or even tri monitors I plan on using them to replace my TV so i want to hook up my Xbox One (some friends don't want to come to the PC side of gaming), and if i can figure out the best way to set up myself so that i can watch my cable shows that would be awesome. Peripherals I will need to acquire some new ones since the old ones are going to be going with the old PC to my folks.I was looking at some different items here or there, but not so sure as to what i will finally go with. While i will need to get some decent speakers if the monitors don't have them, i do also plan on listening to my stuff through my AstroA40s that i already own. Like i said i will be giving the old PC away so i will need to replace it, and since i want to play games that require x12 i will unfortunately will need to go with a Windows 10 style OS. Any advice that you might have would be greatly appreciated. Dave
  3. It's so that I can hook my Xbox, and cable to them so that I can use them as a replacement TV
  4. Okay all, the PSU is a evga 750 g2 supernova so would this setup be able to handle multi gaming monitors at 1080p don't need to go 4K like the graphics were they're at (although I do notice issues with mods, that might be due to load order or somethings). Any my good recommendations on 24" 1080p monitors with built in sound and HDmi support? Don't need this hulking tv I have to play solo games on my Xbox, and so I'm just going to shrink it down. lastly does anyone know of a good mods list for New Vegas, looking to get back into that game.
  5. Do I really need to upgrade my PC, or is it a need to clean up the OS? I'm currently running i5 4690k 16GB RAM ASUS GTX 980 1TB SSD I have more specs, but since this is usually enough info to determine for gaming. Windows 10-64bit I like to play GTAV, Fallout4 (and older) with mods, crisis, gears of war 4, etc... Opinions? any ideas on what to upgrade? etc... I personally am looking at building a new gaming setup with two desks which will have 2 monitors looking at 2 24" models with built in speakers. keyboard, mouse, modem, router, xbox one, cable box, and of course my PC.
  6. So do the Titan x's really justify their cost this is some things that I'd be interested in. also I was just messing around on the pcpartpicker site and just put this together as a playing around scenario. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6CVNzM also I'm also a big xbox one console gamer, and I entend on blending these two together, so that I can still play with my console friends and still play awesome games that have mods on them such as fallout, and so forth. the only issue I've run into since I started playing on the PC is that I prefer to use a thumbstick (heresy I know) for my moving controls (forward, back, and strafing) I had a fun little device a Razor Nostromo keypad that had a thumbstick and I love it, that was until the thumbstick wore out and would get stuck resulting in Snake running straight off of a cliff or right into the sights of a attack helicopter (MGSV). any thoughts on really good periphrials, maybe a solid replacement for my nostromo? thanks, dave
  7. This machine's primary purpose will be for gaming, but once and a while I might want to record some of my game play to upload to youtube or something like that. I might also want to get into 3d modeling and game modding and design.
  8. Hi all again, Well I'm looking to make a new gaming rig for my "let's go compact" setup. A setup were I will get rid of my old TV, and set up all my gaming on two desks.... Here's the idea I want to hear your thoughts on...I want to build a gaming PC that's small, powerful, and yet still quite. I live near Minneapolis MN and I plan on not spending more than $2000-2500 on this machine, not including the periphrials. Speaking of periphrials I'm looking at acquiring a few extra monitors (I really like the 24" models from ASUS that can use HDMI and so I could attach my Cablebox and Xbox to them as well (hence why I won't need the whole old TV). I play with lot's of mods on my games (Fallout 4, GTAV, and so on). I was looking at an... i7 6600 or 6700k (might be way more than I need) 16-32GB of RAM GTX 1080 enough power enough cooling (prefer air-cooled) So on and So forth (I like the Fractal Case that I've used in the past, but I don't know if I should go smaller). Thanks for your time, Dave
  9. step 1 is definitely budget. Well i'd say that I don't know what it will be right off the bat...let me explain, first off I wouldn't be going hog wild and building it all at the same time, I wish I could but you all know how it is with life. Lets just say that I'm looking at what the best bang for the buck will be, so no Xeon server build gaming machines $1000 dollar routers just what is the best that an average gamer/person can afford. as for the monitor I'm currently running a Samsung SyncMaster BX2431 24" Display I might want 2 similar sized monitors. As for the connectivity I wouldn't go with the powerline adapters, since the only things that need to be connected that won't be on the desk are going to be my Tablet, and 3ds devices and if I had a way to connect them directly to the router/PC to share the internet I wouldn't need the worry about the 3ds....so I'm stuck needing some sort of Wi-Fi access.
  10. Hi all, Okay so I don't know were this would go, or if there's too much content in it. The idea that I have is a gaming setup for a room that I'm usually playing in. The thought that I have is this...I realize that my 40" TV that I use for playing my Xbox one doesn't get utilized all that much and the couch that I have gets used for a storage shelf. So the idea I have is to rid myself of this issue by doing the following. 1) Get rid of the soft shelf (couch), the T.V., and the TV's stand. 2) replace this with my new concept setup.... Concept Setup With multiple decent sized desks that could support the following hardware....which will go in a corner of the smaller room that I'm setup in. - a reasonably powerful/silent gaming PC, something that can not only play fully modded games like Skyrim, Fallout4, GTA5. but also games like Crysis at high/ultra settings and still get acceptable framerates at 1080 or 1440p. - Wi-Fi router and my Comcast modem - Xbox one. I still like to play games like Halo, Gears of war, Destiny, and so forth so I'd need to get a awesome monitor that I could still play these off of. - I still have a Comcast HD cable box so I might need this on the shelf. - speakers so that I don't always need to listen to my stuff with my Astros - and finally a couple a really good monitors to run all of this off of. The questions are what kind of hardware to get? - Gaming PC... Intel 6700k (or something powerful enough to last) GTX1080 ? what kind of gaming PC will not only handle the games that I want to play, but also handle the size that i'd need to fit it in? - Wi-Fi... What kind of wireless access points do you guys recommend for a Gamer who wants to connect things like my IPad (might need to upgrade my second generation one for something new), 3DS, and still have enough Ethernet ports for the Xbox and PC, yep I prefer to connect them wired (and given the distance no point of going wireless for them). I need to replace my current one since it has issues broadcasting 2.4ghz, as in doesn't at all used an app on my phone to find that tidbit out, and that's preventing my 3ds and like devices from logging into it. - Monitors... What kind of monitors have you guys have had good experiences with, any that have sound for T.V. and Xbox support? -Peripherals... I prefer to play my games with game controllers, I would like to find a hybrid setup that will give me the left thumb stick for replacing AWSD keys for movement, and still have extra keys for hotkeys so that I could still aim with a mouse. I already have a set of Astro A40 headphones, but would it be worth it to upgrade to A50 or something else? - Chair... this is a issue that I've experienced for quite a while, I want to find a solid computer chair that is comfy and sturdy. I weight around 350lbs and am 6'4" and I haven't found a really good one that can support my weight and size. rest of the space in the room will be for shelf space, so that I could store my Warhammer 40k collection and DVD/Blu-rays that I still have. Okay so that was a lot of info to go through, but I'd like to hear all your thoughts and suggestions on this matter. - equipment - system builds - etc.... Thanks for your guys time, Dave Minneapolis, MN
  11. Hello, Okay guys again I've returned for some advice for this school project that I'm currently working on. We've (I mean my group and instructor) have been discussing a All-in-one solution such as Nutanix style system (which has the server, switch, and storage all in the same unit) for are school project design. This is all just a what if seinerio. What we were looking at is this Server Room. 1 rack with a single outlet which is backed up by generator (I've already determined a need to have are UPS throttle this) we were looking at a router to the ISP, a router connecting to the other Active Directory servers (these need to be separate, but able to trust a single group). a Nutanix or something similar system (all-in-one) (we're going to use these as are Virtual Hosts for this network). (I plan on needing to find a Cloud Based solution to have off-site backups). Plus some UPS(s) to power and throttle the generator power BackBone this is going to be all fiber (we are going to be looking at checking out the costs of a subcontractor to install all the cabling) Lab 1 1 switch (instructor recommended a GBIC solution) 1 wireless access point 1 networked printer 1 networked projector 31 workstations (all zero clients) Lab 2 1 switch (instructor recommended a GBIC solution) 1 wireless access point 1 networked printer 1 networked projector 31 workstations (all zero clients) Lab 3 1 switch (instructor recommended a GBIC solution) 1 wireless access point 1 networked printer 1 networked smartboard 31 workstations (all MACs, so were going to need to design a way to intergrate these into the AD that were creating) We then need to design a active directory scheme for all of this, a security/maintaince plan, and also (my major part) disaster recovery plan) This is one heck of a project, and we need to have a rough draft by the end of next week. thanks in advance for any help you guys could provide, dave
  12. Thanks thats a lot of useful info there
  13. Alright so the request for proposal asked for the PCs (they wanted them to do accounting and basic word, so basiclly Microsoft Office type software), the MACs is also something they wanted (i personally voted for using zero clients for all the workstations, but was voted down by the group im with, "itd be too difficult to virtualize MACs" they said ) adobe suite (graphic design/photo stuff), and the last lab i was able to get my virtual desktops. I thought i heard of switches that have extra ports on the side that you could attach a optical in/out to, might be wrong, ill have to look into a solution for that. As for the servers Active Directory File server Print server Web server Email server (instructor is pushing exchange) Active directory will have a trust to another network, but we dont get any details on that It needs its own internet, so its own ISP and router There will also need to be a space for the VMs that will run on this network
  14. Yep dont want to make it top heavy now do we
  15. Okay so i was able to convince the group to virtualize the server. Since we need to price out hardware i need to figure out what to install in the server room. Heres the design of the network so far... Labs 1 switch [with both fiber and ethernet support, fiber goes back to servers, ethernet connects to workstations] 1 wireless access point 1 printer networked 1 smartboard (still debating on this one) 31 workstations each lab [we need to have 1 lab with PCs (not virtual pcs), 1 lab with MACs, and the third lab with Zero clients] Backbone cables are going fiber Server room I know were going to need UPSs routers, switches, just dont know what best kind of servers to run in here This project might be all Theory, but we need to go into detail on the costs of equipment and justify why we need certain equipment over other choices. Then i have to come up with a solid disaster recovery plan with off site backups. Plan is once i get done with this quarter ill have a associate degree in Network Administration. Then its time to get in the field.
