You guys should review a more up-to-date uninterruptable power supply (UPS). The last review on a UPS was like 1-2 years ago, and it has some relevance to people who are entering the PC world by giving them useful information on protection from power outage, surge, and etc.

CloudySky got a reaction from Weirdybeardyman in Last minute pc building tips?
If you want to be efficient with time, I have some suggestions that some people won't think about.

Unless you're booting your OS through a CD drive, prepare the USB OS install prior to building your PC.

-During your build, think careful about every single detail such as the placement of your cables and components.

The placement of your cables are critical for several reasons:

If you want to replace or remove a component, it is a lot of hassle and tedious work if the cables are tangled and intertwined; moreover, if you want maximum efficiency in airflow and heat dissipation from your case, then cable manage will slightly help.

-Make sure your PSU is turned off before you plug it up with your components.

My buddy electrocuted himself and fried his components in the process..

-Use CoreTemp and monitor your temps after you updated windows and installed basic programs such as browsers and etc.

Use a temperature monitoring program and make sure that your heat sink is properly doing its job. CoreTemp is free and safe.

-Do not use the driver on the CD that came with your GPU.

Unless you purchase the GPU at launch, more than likely the drivers will create unnecessary errors with your GPU. Generally, it is better to manually download and install the drivers from the website.

-Try to run your PC for 24 hours after you installed all the necessities, checked for abnormalities, and stress tested your rig.

I only recommend this because it allows you to see if there may be any problems that are lurking in the shadows.

CloudySky got a reaction from Decorus in LoL VS. DotA 2?
I don't believe you guys are criticizing the games properly.

First off, let me give a background of my MOBA history before I start talking about this genre.

I've played DOTA, DOTA All-Stars, HON, LoL, and DOTA 2.
I switched to these games in this order after I saw a decline in players.

I played LoL the most when it first came out in closed beta with the main developers of the original DOTA All-Stars, Steve Guinsoo Feak and Pendragon, working on LoL as a new platform for the genre. They moved away from the original DOTA platform on W3 because of its limitation.

I've tried and still play DOTA 2 for an extensive amount from when it first came out till now.

I'm highly ranked in both LoL and DOTA 2 ladder system.

To juxtapose DOTA 2 and LoL on a skill based aspect is completely wrong.

More mechanics in the game does not make the game harder to master. Its like comparing the raw mechanical skills required in CS 1.6 vs Battlefield (multiplayer); CS 1.6 has less mechanics in the game (compared to BF) but requires much more mechanical skill. The more mechanics introduced in the game does not mean it is harder in any shape or form. I can make the same notion with Starcraft Broodwar vs Warcraft 3. Warcraft 3 has more mechanics to it with level of heroes and items on the heros. This does not make the game harder.

Yes, I will agree that DOTA 2 has a higher learning curve. However, it is not harder to master. You cannot generalize your own personal subjective learning curve and push that idea onto others. Others will learn faster in some games compared to others.

Secondly, both games are great MOBA genres. I dislike any hatred between these two games because they are powered and created from the co-founders and founders of DOTA on Warcraft 3.

Simplcity does not suggest less skill required.

Play the good'ol flappy bird on the iphone and that should just prove everything I've said.

Aorus P3 series are way better for the build quality and price.

Pretty much my answers when I typed out those questions.

Everything is usually based on budget.

What can you get out of your budget that will maximize the performance for the intention of the build?

This is a much better question. Specific and down to the point.

I spent about an hour and a half with the Microsoft tech support.

Quoting from them, you can install Windows 8.1 Pro for Students as a clean install if you have the physical disk for windows 8

    or

Creating a bootable usb using an iso burner on a separate computer with admin and Windows 7.

The bit version of the Windows 8.1 Pro for Students will correlate with the computer you used to download the files from.

    Example:

You use a Window 7 computer with 32-bit system. The downloader will download Windows 8.1 Pro for Students 32-bit.

You use a Window 7 computer with 64-bit system. The downloader will download Windows 8.1 Pro for Students 64-bit.

If dreamspark doesn't work for me, I will purchase Windows 8.1 Pro for Students and make a confirmation that it works. Will get back on this thread if it happens or not.

Edit: I ended up answering my own question.... lol
