  4. How old is the unit as you could get it replaced under warranty.
  5. Google the height of the HDD and enclosure, then you will have your answer.
  6. Just adding in, no one bug me too help. Cisco will take away my CCNP
  7. So you using IE or Firefox then ? If so have you tried resetting/restoring to default
  8. A lot of people never look at the hard drive activity. Open resource monitor to isolate the issue. When looking at RAM, you tend to look under performance tab so see how much Free Physcial memory is left. Have you updated your drivers ? Do some troubleshooting and let me the outcomes.
  9. Just basically keep alive running, nothing to worry about. If it was downloading an update or something e.t.c you would see a bigger spike
  10. Not to seem like an arse, but http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415 Only way your going to learn As when you self learn you can teach those from your mistakes e.t.c. Good luck dude
  11. Check the icon target properties, sometimes this gets hacked by adware. Best thing is check running resources and isolate it via msconfig. Give that a go.
  12. Disk part from CMD. Google the commands to assist you further
  13. If the data means the world to you then I recommened data recovery places, but seemings as the head might be damaged or the complete partition sector the cost of repairing this professionally is in the thounsands as they would need to open up the HDD. However you could find a partition recovery software that might assist.
  14. Use the cooler than didnt come with the CPU for testing due to testing your cooler. Also use your motherboard box if you dont have a test station. Nail polish remover works good instead of isopropyl alcohol if you have none. Use thermal compond that is either preapplied or apply some yourself
  15. I would suggest a case with great storage options if you where wanting a prebuilt or non prebuilt. Intel atom is more that enough, nothing to fancy. Network is the other main thing you need to focus on really e.g dual nic or quad nic
  16. With Windows server OS you can assigned an static IP address to the workstation/desktop/end device in AD, so that is an "software". Or you can use spiceworks, this is a great software you install and doing various options for your netowkr INCLUDING assigning static IP address to devices. If that isnt an option, you manually assign an IP address to the device. Use mac address filtering for wireless devices along with lease time if you were going to stick with DHCP. Printers, servers and NAS should have an static IP address.
  17. Well seemings it is a small network, static IP the desktops and hoping the printers e.t.c are static as well. No point running DHCP Also, run netsh dump and ipconfig /flushdns <----too clear any network cache that could be causing an issue. The ping result sounds like the ARP table responding to your ping request. Also, are windows firewall enabled on the desktops ? If so, disable them, no need having them on as they can block ICMP requests.
  18. I use Billion 7800NXL, great for everything minus wireless. I dont use wireless much so yeah.....Anything Billion, Sonicwall and Cisco ARE great at all the above
  19. Not one mention of sfc /scannow . Have you given that a go ? If it is tcpip.sys, have you considered updating your network drivers ?
  20. Ouch, that is the worst outcome to unplugging the device before shutting it down. The HDD has moving parts and can seize up. Best to use an linux enviroment to see if you can access the partitions. Using Parted magic from UBCD will help a lot. Give that a go and keep me posted
  21. Have you installed the latest BIOS for the board ? Do you get the welcome to Windows screen ?
  22. Well, the issue is that after installing SP1 some files have corrupted. Have you tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329293
  23. Agreed dragoon20005. Windows updates ruins servers I have found. Use the mainboard manufacturers website !
  24. Dun dun dun, no I am not :-p. If you open CMD (command prompt) you can do many dos related commands including ping. This sends an packet normally called ICMP to the destination and respondes with an echo. IF you ping google it will DNS resolve giving you an IP address. SO give that a whirl if you know what the server ip address or name is for CoD for example. If your PING fails it will inform you. You can isolate issues with PING. Hence why I said try dynamic IP from ISP than using DDNS
  25. Oh it comes with a manual, maybe I should of read it before it blew up.
