  1. And do you have any board to recommand to me ? I am looking for a Z97 LGA 1150 motherboard, but i only saw either some used boards, or 200$+ boards :/ I also read that H85 LGA 1150 boards can also work, but with no overclocking. I don't remember the exact specs of my processor, but it is an Intel i5 that i overclocked from 3.5 to 3.9Ghz
  2. Hello, I have a MSI Z97 gaming 5 since 2015 and recently it has troubles for booting. It took a random amount of time before showing the start screen (from 2 min to up 1 week ...). While trying to debug the issue, I noticed that it was looping error codes on boot So i tried to update the BIOS to the latest version; it was on version 1.0, and i tried to push v1.0c (not using MSI Live Update, but by selecting the latest bios from MSI website (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z97-GAMING-5). I extracted the BIOS to a USB stick and tried to boot on it, but it took 5 days to start, and at the time of the boot the usb stick wasn't anymore plugged on the computer. The motherboard now only shows error code 00, never shows boot screen, and shutdown after 10 min What can i do ? I tried to remove the BIOS battery, clears the capacitors, and also short the JTAG1 slots but it stays on the error code 00. Do you know any other procedure that i can try ? Thanks in advance, Nicolas (and sorry for my English as I am a non native english speaker)
  3. Hi guys, I've rencently build a new computer but i have ran into some issues for plugging all the fans. I'm using a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard (http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z97_GAMING_5.html#hero-specification) which features for fan control : - 2 x 4-pin CPU fan connectors - 3 x 4-pin system fan connectors and in total would like to have 7 fans plugged in I have 5 obviously atm (1 for cpu on CPU pin, 3 for case on system fan pin and 1 for case on CPU pin)). The fan pins on the motherboard a 4 pin headers. In order to plug all the remaining fans onto the motherboard, i am looking for a system that would allow that. Most of my fans are 3 pins fans (pwm) with LED (4 / fan) (=more power consumption i guess). Searching over the internet, i found several possibilities and i wanted your opinion on them. First, buying a fan splitter cable: * First, is it ok for the motherboard ? * Will the motherboard be able to control them (pwm) ? (atm with one fan plugged in, it is controlled by MB, but with a splitter cable, will it works ?) * Is it ok in term of powerconsumption for one MB fan pin header to power several (2, 3, 4, i don't know) fan ? (even more with the LED thing) * Which one is better ? lol Is it better a 4 pin header -> 2x4pin header ,4 pin header -> 2x3pin header, 3pin header -> 2x3 pin header, 3pin header -> 3x3 pin header ? .... the list is pretty damn long. Second, buying a Molex to (2 or 3)x(4 or 3) pin adapter: * Will pwm fans be controlled in any mean if plugged not on MB ? If not then what, full speed all the time ? * Is it better if fan are powerred from PSU and not MB ? Which option is the best one ? Finally guys, would be great if you had any recommandation on another solution, would be appreciated Thanks in advance, Regards,
  4. Helle everyone, I recently bought all the parts for my first build and according to everybody, it's better to test the setup outside of the case so you can solve problems better. I bought a CM Hyper 212 Evo & Intel i5 4690k. I was wondering, how do you handle the cpu cooler thing ? Should i use the stock cooler or already set up the CM one ? Aso, If i just want to power on the board and see the screen saying no Drive was found, so no OS, is that ok not to put thermal paste ? or should i put some, clean it and then prepare for the final build ? I don't have any alcohol stuff to clean my CPU so ... If you have any kind of advice also, would be glad to read them. Thx !
  5. I've seen a lot of people use the CM Hyper 212 as a CPU Cooler. Is it possible to do some overclocking with this kind of CPU Cooler; also, i don't wan't my CPU to hang aroung 90°C For storage, the price tag / performance is almost the same as the parts i have selected, so i guess it won't matter a lot. Why would gSkill RAM would be better than corsair vengeance ()for more or less the same price ) ? For motherboard, i also asked myself this question, but it seams like MSI had troubles with that card ( http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97g55sli). But well, on the paper, it's true that they look the same with a nice price differential. So; here is my second iteration : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Land3r/saved/GyH7YJ Anyway, even i don't choose your solution in the end, i want to thanks you all for precious advices !!
  6. Hello everyone, I'm planning atm the moment to build my first computer. I'm not really on a budget, i just want a powerfull enough machine to last several years with this configuration with high quality graphics. I'm also planning on buying a 144Hz monitor (1920*1080), so this computer should output at least 60fps on very consuming games (like bf4, crysis 3, ...) and ideally 120 on less consuming stuff (i do some CS, moba) I wanted to know what you think about it: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Land3r/saved/PHqPxr I'm not sure about the overclocking part tho. EDIT: Also, with Gsync monitor coming out, is that worth if to change to high end nvidia videocard (higher prices but gsync) ? I'm not sure of the impacts of tearing & lag on 144Hz monitor. Thx
