val0r0x's Achievements

  1. My man room has long been child proofed. That and I generally only play once he's in bed or out.
  2. For years I've generally been on the upgrade train; upgrading singular parts where I can. Now, though, I have the time and budget to finally build a completely new rig from scratch. It's not that my current rig is all that bad, it's not, not by a long shot, but my son is now old enough to play games with me so I want to give my PC to him. So given my savings plan has been fairly successful and the money was always earmarked for a new rig, I thought I might as well get started! 1. Budget & Location I'm in Australia, so all parts will be purchased using AUD from local or interstate stores. EDIT: Oops, forgot the actual budget. I'm looking at $4500 AUD, give or take a few hundred if necessary. 2. Aim With a second child on the way, this will be my last opportunity, for a good few years, to be able to drop this much coin on anything computer related. So, getting as much out of this build as I can, for as long as I can, is the main objective. I'm a Systems Administrator who does work from home, but there's nothing work related that requires special hardware or that would stress any modern system. The primary purpose will be gaming and I play a bit of everything, with a particular love for FPS and RPGs. As you'll notice below, I'm also aiming to get a new monitor, so a PC that can drive an ultra wide (my first ultra wide, so I'm excited) would be nice (hopefully one above 100Hz). 3. Monitors I'm currently playing on a 1440p 27" FreeSync monitor which runs at 75Hz. I'm super pumped as I believe I'll be able to squeeze an ultra wide into my budget, something I've always wanted. 3560x1440 and 100Hz or higher are my only two desirable requirements as far as monitors go. 4. Peripherals I'm all good with peripherals. 5. Why are you upgrading? As I mentioned at the start, upgrading mainly because I've hit my savings goal and the time is right, as I can pass my existing PC onto my son. Here is what I have so far - https://www.pccasegear.com/wish_lists/669572/Next Build I'm keen to get feedback though, as it has been a long time since I've built a new rig and in all honesty, I'm not all that up to speed on the CPU side of things. AMD certainly seems competitive again, which is good to see, but is it worth it over an 8th of 9th gen Intel? Thanks in advance, everyone!
  3. If you liked Bioshock Infinite you could always go back and give the first one a crack, especially now it has been "remastered".
  4. I bought it at launch and enjoyed it with friends. As others have stated, it gets a bit tedious if you're hitting it solo. Wildlands, I felt, was The Division done right. And with with AI thrown in when playing it solo, it makes it a much better game all round. Whilst still maintaining a similar feel as The Division.
  5. So it's not really experiencing a decline, your mates have just stopped playing. Glad we got that sorted
  6. On the decline how? Player numbers? Because that's just untrue see - https://www.superdataresearch.com/blog/can-blizzards-storm-tackle-a-saturating-moba-market/ - for example. Even if it wasn't, how does that affect my simple invitation to fellow players? I'm on the Oceanic Server.
  7. So this is probably a long shot, but here it goes! I've been playing LoL since beta and despite the community and just general toxicity surrounding the game, I still really enjoy it. But recently I decided to try and make more of a serious effort in Ranked. I've been doing OK in solo queue, but random teammates every game makes for inconsistent quality and enjoyment of matches. So I'm hoping to band together with 4 (or more) other semi-casual players who want to see how high they can get by seasons end and beyond. I'm a married man and father of one, who also works full time, so I'm not looking to commit to any crazy amount of hours per week, but a few games during the week and more on a weekend is not unreasonable. If you're interested, great! I may post in more LoL focused forums/groups etc. but they are generally just full of trolls and critics. I'm fairly immune to both when in game and would expect any potential team mates to be as well. I'm just looking for a fun team but yes, with a focus on getting better and improving our rank. Cheers!
  8. Good: Recently upgraded to a GTX 1080 and 6600K. Bad: Use all that power to mostly play League of Legends, because I hate myself.
  9. Not many people know what they want when they're 18. I didn't, at least. As for the attention span, well, I again didn't have a very good one at 18. 11 years later, I'm still pretty bad at seeing things through, but it's not as bad as it once was. I feel like, career wise, no matter what you do, it's going to have tedious and boring components. I work in IT, and some days it's so mundane or boring, I consider leaving it all behind and doing something completely different. But then the next day, I'll discover something awesome or start a project I really enjoy and it's the best job in the world again. To be honest, the one type of work that never enabled my short attention span to control or distract me, was hard labour type work; working with my hands. I did some work for family friends who own a concreting business and I could have just been digging a hole all day, it still just had this amazing ability to keep me going and engaged. As others have pointed out, you can't discount the possibility of mental illness, even at 18. It can be a confusing time, more so when you feel like you should be achieving more out of life than you are. But believe me, the only pressure in that regard is the pressure you put on yourself. You have the excellent opportunity, at such a young age, to be able to try all sorts of different things. So go do it and eventually, something will click. Avoid debt as long as you can, so you're never locked into one specific job and enjoy your money. Work is just a means to an end. Work out what you enjoy doing with your spare time, if you're one of the luck ones (or you work hard enough), your hobby can become your job! Edit: Oh and certainly don't worry about figuring all this out "before it's too late". Again, you're young. But hell, my best friend studied for year to become a vet, only to finally graduate and start in a clinic and learn that he hated it! He persisted whilst he studied IT of a night and when he felt suitably qualified, made the change and drastically affected the trajectory of his career and life, all for the better. The best thing is, he was 40!
  10. Regardless, both 4 and 8 will be overpriced. It's the Australian way
  11. Yep, I'm predicting around $400-$450 for the 8GB. Complete and utter rubbish, so sick of getting rekt when it comes to hardware/software prices here.
  12. Without any official benchmarks etc. it's tough to predict that the Ti (should it even be released) is even going to be able to deliver that kind of performance.
  13. I'm gonna go ahead and say that you don't need another 980ti for 1080p gaming. Go the phone. Or some fancy peripherals etc.
  14. Votes for the 6700K with a GTX 1070 are creeping up; what would be the theory behind this? The future SLI option?
  15. I single 1080 would give me the performance I need, without the issues, however rare they may be nowadays, of SLI. If the 1080 was touch and go in regards to performance and giving me what I wanted, 1070 SLI would probably be the go. But so far, every 1440p benchmark I've seen has the 1080 smashing it.
