  1. Looks like a good server to start with though the hp raid cards might give you some trouble when configuring them. I wouldn't really worry about upgrade paths as you generally don't really upgrade blade servers like this aside from adding PCI devices. Also since this is your first server, I will warn you that they are loud (psu and case fans) and that the location consideration is a very important factor that I didn't consider when I started.
  2. Try rolling back to older nvidia drivers. I went back to last Septembers drivers and have a stable system again.
  3. I misunderstood, I thought you had already booted off of USB and USB booting was definitely a thing in '06 ?. Either the USB device is disabled in bios or you made the usb installer incorrectly ( not bootable).
  4. Type in 'lsblk' in a terminal window. This should return all the attached storage devices that it can 'see'. -Adnan
  5. They last point is def true. NiMH batteries are notoriously difficult to jump start from dead. Never had to jump start any though. good ol engineer google will help you out.
  6. For the hdmi signal, it will either work or it wont (quality is irrelevant). For usb its a similar story but when data doesnt reach the other end it may just skip movements or even drop the connection all together (depends on the implementation). That being said 15ft is not a whole lot of extension to worry about.
  7. Start with the local classifieds (craigslist, etc.) and go from there. I would deprioritize overclocking at this point as well as they depreciate slower than their equivalents in pre built systems. Since you are trying to go for gaming pc, my advice would be to get the bare minimum of everything (i7-2600 or greater, 8gb ram, barebones mobo, etc.) and put the money into the gpu. edit: Good point about the PSU @LLXIR, no need to go crazy but going for a new corsair or evga 430-500w psu is a good idea.
  8. yeah, itll be fine. Most gaming applications are limited by the gpu and not the cpu. This is especially true for intel as their signle thread performance has always exceeded amd and thus will generally stay relevant longer. I have made super budget gaming rigs for people in the last few years by sourcing 2700's and 3770's paired with a modern gpu with no issue.

  10. Using an older ducky shine, rgb would be very nice.
  11. You could get a better gpu on the used market, especially now that a new gpu is on the horizon. Everything else looks pretty good. -Adnan
  12. Took an old dell psu and a lenovo slim one and spliced them together for my server build. I needed different connectors, longer wires, and more sata power haha! -Adnan
  13. Would like to win the keyboard because it would be nice to replace the stock dell keyboard in my office. -Adnan
  14. Im am right there with you. Was LE and no an MG2 but every game i play never ends well because of russians, smurfs, or derankers. Are there any LTT teams we could queue with potentially? tbh though, i dont see many russians and as a side note, the ranks recently got rebalanced so it is expected for us to lose a few ranks (2-3).
  15. There has been an update pending on my laptop for a few weeks and it looks like it's set to update on restart. However, any shutdown or restart I do does not seem to envoke this update. In the update settings menu, I can click restart now under the scheduling option and still get no update during the restart. Any help would be apreciated fellas. -Adnan
