If you cant afford a ssd (which is not always the best option in the first place for multiple reasons) and you need the drive now then I would say it sound like a good upgrade to me. That is as long you get the storage space, cache size, and speed you want, for a price cheaper than a ssd similar to your original drive size IMO.
