fair enough, still you dont have to get the most expensive for the best quality..

the big bang m power is a really nice board too from what I know, and its quite a bit cheaper if I remember correctly.. :)

lga2011 is more expensive, but you really dont have to get the most expensive motherboard for it, something half the price is good.. :) (ok, maybe not half the price, I dont know, but cheaper atleast..)

Winther reacted to Complx in [Build Log] RGD - Custom Built Surround Monitor Stand
    By: Complx

    Reasoning:

The basic idea for this project was was born out of frustration out of seeing what was available on the current market, a lot of triple monitor stands I saw were wildly expensive.  Some cost $300 or more and even after spending that much money on these stands, you still would see people complaining that their monitors that were mounted to the outer arms would often sag and not line up correctly.

Another thing I noticed about a lot of these stands was a complete lack of added functionality to the user, besides just holding the monitors, they often would have no real added value or function to them, the only exception that I could find in my research was the XFX Triple Monitor stand, which incorporated 2 USB 2.0 hubs and a Headphone and Mic jack into the base of their stand.

So after a bit more research, I still could not find a monitor stand that really offered what I was looking for.  In all honesty the XFX stand would have been almost perfect, but the price was a little off putting and I found out that they don't make it anymore.  Also, the places that still do have it in stock are charging even more for it than before.

So I have set out to design and build a monitor stand for myself that can support up to 4 monitors!

    Research:

As stated before, I did a fair amount of research for the project before i started the real work.  There seemed to be 2 "go to" companies when it came to monitor stands, though I know, and looked at, many more.  Ergotron and Ergotech seemed to be the big two.  But a lot of their models that supported 3+ monitors can run up in price. ($200-$300 or more)

One of the issues I had with these off the shelf monitor stands right now is the "sag" some of them tend to have, especially when it comes to the arm which the 2 side monitors (Left and Right) are often attached to.  To compensate for this, a lot of the monitor stands have VESA mounts that allow for height adjustment to help line up the end monitors with the center one.

While this was a good solution to the problem of sag, I felt the bigger issue had not been dealt with, just kind of patched over.  So this was one major area I wanted to focus on, rigidity.

The next issue I had was for the price, these stands often lacked additional functionality, besides holding the monitors in place.  As mentioned before, the XFX stand had a USB and sound hub built into the base of their stand, which I really fell in love with.   So this was the second thing I wanted to focus on, added functionality to the user.

    The Hardware:

For this project, I went out and purchased 3 23.6" Asus VN247H-P monitors, the main reason I wanted these was for how thin the bezel was on them, Asus claims it has less than 1cm of bezel on either side.

I have these monitors purchased, but I will post some images of them later.

    The Concept:

So for this project I will be using a material called extruded aluminum, very light weight, but very strong and very rigid.

I have made an initial concept model in CAD program to make sure I have a lot of the measurements and tolerances worked out before I purchase the material and start the first steps of the build.

These first 2 images were the base I started to work with to get an idea of how I wanted to lay out the main supports.

Then I started to work out some of the details on how it would go together:

Right now this is the most current version of the project in CAD form, there are a few more elements I wanted to incorporate into the model before I start the prototyping and building phase.

As it stands now I still need to figure out:

      - Cable management of the power and video cables

      - Incorporating speakers onto the stand

      - Designing the USB hub which will be at the base of the stand

Here is a WIP shot of what the speakers might look like when mounted:  (Please excuse the gray block, it was a place holder model for my 4th monitor.

    Stay tuned!

Yes, the PSU should be sufficient, but maybe not if you want to run SLI in the future though..
The hard drive is ok, no problem.. But I would suggest getting and SSD for windows and programs. Something like the Samsung 840 120GB ssd might be worth looking at for you! :)
EDIT: dang, didnt see that you had an SSD.. then its all good, that 60gb is a little small in my opinion though, but it should be enough (unless you are using it for cache, then its all good!)

I have a pair of HD600 and I absolutly love them, and I havent even really tried them yet as I dont have an amp so I have only tried them with my surround reciever, which doesnt have a headphone amp i think, atleast not a good one.

anyways, they are open and quite loud when I take them off and listen to them. If I go to a lan I will leave the HD600's at home and take my headset just so I dont anoy everyone around me. (they just have to live with my MX blue keyboard though..)

I havent tried a Filco, but the quility of my Ducky is not up for discussion! I will be getting another Ducky at some point, might be the Year Of The Snake if I can get a TKL version with nordic ISO layout.

Anyways, I have always had numpads and hated using the other number row, but after getting a Ducky G2Pro with blue/green switched Im sold on the small formfactor for sure! never going back to the big ugly full boards.. :D So I would say you should def. try a TKL. Personally I would wait for the Shine 3, but they might be hard to get your hands on for the first while, but I dont know. The new Year Of The Snake might also be worth it to have a look at! :)

I don't know how you can say that with such conviction, I own a Filco MJ Ninja, two DS II's and a Ducky G2 Pro TKL model......both brands seem about the same to me in terms of build quality. I'm no expert, but using a DS II 78 Version on my main rig, and the MJ Ninja on my 2nd rig, the build quality is about the same, both are equally refined. If you don't want back light, easily Filco.....if you want back light, Ducky Shine....if you want a good quality KB with or w/o back light, then choose between these two by tossing a coin.

I've heard that Topre with its hybrid dome and its own switch is just about perfect, but it's in a different price range though.....but honestly, between Ducky and Filco, there's no winner or loser, both are great.

I dont really have a lot of good photos for this, but I just though it might give someone else some ideas.

Keep in mind that this probably good render your fans unusable.

I bought some noctua fans last summer becuase I wanted the best performance without the sound, I didnt really mind the colors, but later I didnt like that they where so easy to see through the top of the 600T. So i decided i wanted to dye them. I just didnt want to take them apart because they are sealed so dust cant efter the motor. So I decided to try and just dye them without takaing them apart, and here are the results.
I ofcourse let them dry before using them. Packed them in a towel and put them on the radiator for 48 hours.

I used black Rit powder dye, one bag of it in total. :)

    Hey guys!

This is my first buildlog, so tips and pointers are welcome! For example, would you like the original pic size? :)

Ok.. I built this PC late last summer and had big plans for it, but after about a month of building and waiting on parts that showed up broken I just wanted to have a desktop again, and then I just let it be for a while, but now Im really going to take my revenge!
I'm not going to have anyone do anything for me on this, I dont want to have something CNC milled, I want to do avything myself with the tools that I can find, I think thats the most fun, eventhough I really dont know much about tools.. :)
I will just go over a few of the things I hope will set this build apart from all the other watercooled 600T's out there:
    It will have:
Asus Rampage IV Extreme and an 3930k.
A total of 540mm rad space (a 360 in the top and a 240 Monsta in the front, with puch/pull)
Hard piping - chrome plated copper.
    Bitspower Multi Link Adapter, fittings.
The pump(s) and cylinder res is not decided yet. But will have atleast one D5.
    Home-made acrylic side window.
PSU cover and a cover for the top around the fans.
A mat black glass front. (not completly settled on the material, but et mat black fore sure)
A baycover with a surprise that I REALLY REALLY hope will work out..!

    Complete Specs:
    Asus Rampage IV Extreme
    Intel Core i7, 3930K
eVGA GTX670 FTW 4GB (hopefully two in SLI)
    Corsair Dominator Platinum, 4x4GB, 2133mhz
    Corsair Force 3, 128gb (OS)
    Samsung 840, 240gb (Games)
    Corsair AX750
    Corsair 600T

Now for the disassembly of the old system. I was surprised about the amount of work and time it takes to take apart a watercooled system and flushing the components..!

Here it is before I started..

    Getting ready

Drain hole, gotta love Alphacool's NexXxos rads.. :P

    Starting the drain.

    Starting to take it apart.

Then I went inside and cleaned it all out and its drying..

And then onwards to the side panel:

Preparing to draw the cutting line.

    Cutting.

And the result, I will probably make a few changes and sand it down a little more to fit perfectly, hence the protective plastic is still on.

And a few bonus pics. I have to live with only using an ultrabook for a few days, untill my next project arrives. My home server, which is going, temporarily into my old Define R2. At some point it will be going in an old, soon to be modded, American ammobox from 1942 :D

    HDD's

    UPDATE: (04/27-13)

Some new photos of todays work. Making a panel for the top, it still needs a hole for the fans ofcourse and Im probably going to put some matt black film on it. :)

    UPDATE: (04/28-13)

Got some more work done today. This is pretty interresting in my opinion, I really have no idea if this is going to work or not. But its a planet, made out of three layers of acrylic, which, if it works, will have liquid flowing inside it. It might not work out, but the plan is to use the same idea on the bay cover. :)
This little one will be mounted to the back of the case, where the back fan would be..
The one in the pictures turned out to be too small, just not enough room for screws and o-ring, so I ended up scrapping that and making another one, a little bigger this time..
