Devlafford's Achievements

  1. I have a few issues. For one, note that I'm running W10 Education. I couldn't find "79050fba6b240e" in HxD, I found "79050fba6b100b" I still changed the value anyway. After running the script, I got a jarbled video output, but managed to replace the modified sys file with the original. What now? I got it working on driver 417.71. Do I now disable testsigning and nointegritychecks? It seems like doing that breaks this hack, as my cards don't show up as functioning in device manager. In test mode, I can't start Rainbow Six Siege, since BattleEye doesn't support test mode. What should I be doing once everything is 'working?'
  2. Honestly, OCD. There should just be a way to change the default, I shouldn't have to sidestep around this every time I install Windows.
  3. I have to type my username in the ssh command if it isn't already devlafford. If it's devla I have to type ssh devlafford@address, and there's no autocomplete for that. That's just one example. There are other things that expect my credentials to be devlafford and it's easier if it's already that and I don't have to go out of my way to change them or log in with other credentials.

  5. Because when I use cmd or bash it has me as devla, and I want to be devlafford. It makes certain things easier (mostly not having to remember that the acc name isn't what I expect, but things like sshing too). What is compmgmt? I'm looking for some way to change what it does by default.
  6. When I reinstall windows, my user folder is always "devla" and I want it to be "devlafford" by default. I could just not sign in with my Microsoft account, but I always forget and then have to reinstall to do that. How do I change what signing in with my Microsoft Account names the User folder by default? I assume it has to be something on their website or something. Thank you.
  7. It would be pretty sweet if we could get sound effects like the USB connect/disconnect sounds but that work for battery events. It would be pretty useful but also just kinda cool. I just kinda wanted to see if anyone else had this idea or if anyone thinks it's lame, useless, anything like that. I figure that my phone makes noises when I plug it in, and lets me know when I've accidentally unplugged it, so it would be neat if my laptop would let me know audibly for things like that too (I frequently think I've plugged my Surface Book in because the magnet sticks but it'll be twisted around or something stupid like that).
  8. Would I check that in Windows, Linux, or the UEFI? I'm really unsure, I've changed just about every piece of hardware in my PC since the original install of W8.
  9. This is my drive setup: 500 GB Windows 10 SSD 120 GB Linux Mint SSD 1 TB HDD Storage (used with windows) 500 GB HDD Storage (used with windows) Now, when I first built my PC I only had the 1 TB drive and had Windows 8.1. I then added, in order, the 500 GB HDD, then the 120 GB SSD (which I installed W10 on and then deleted the old windows install from the TB drive), then the 500 GB SSD (which I have moved the Windows 10 install to now). I then wiped the 120 GB and installed Linux on it. That went fine. Now, GRUB only detects the Linux install and the old W8 leftover partitions from the TB drive. When I try to boot into the Windows Boot Manager from GRUB, it tries to load W8, fails, and then tries to recover. I can only boot into W10 by going into the BIOS and overriding what disk to boot from on the next boot. How do I: - Remove the old partitions from the old W8 install and have the 1TB drive only be for data storage - Get GRUB to detect the W10 install on my 500GB SSD - Do this without losing data. If reinstalling becomes easier, then I'll just have to do it. I'm familiar with the partition management tools in Windows and Linux, I'm just not sure what I should actually do. Also, when I clone the data from the 120 SSD to the 500 SSD, I ended up with MBR partitions. Is it worth reinstalling just to get GPT partitions or does it not really matter? Thank you!
  10. I would love the new Blade 14, it's got all the beauty of a Macbook with all the power of a gaming laptop. I run physics simulations on my dual core laptop, and a quad core with powerful GPU would do much better and would make an excellent addition to my mobile arsenal. (although, both would make excellent machines...)
  11. I'm programming using the Kinect to interface with a 3D world. I have made it so that the hands control objects in the 3D space; if you move your hand towards the sensor, the objects move in the -Z direction, etc. If I rotate the camera, however, it begins to feel unnatural as the objects no longer appear to move in the same direction as the hand. I want to adjust the calculations such that the objects always move on the axis with respect to the camera. To do this, I need to make the z component of the 'change vector' (the vector the objects would move on with respect to the global frame) align with the 'track vector' (the vector between where the camera is and the point it's looking at). How does one rotate a vector such that a given component of it is parallel to another vector?
  12. Dear christ that is beautiful... One day.... I'll get there haha
  13. I would've but I've been reading that sanding doesn't work on the 780ti and up. Still, it looks pretty sick even with the green LEDs; green and dark purple are a surprisingly good combo somehow. Here's another pic taken with the potato cam (please ignore my appalling cable management for now):
  14. Yeah, I'm still on this trashcan Galaxy S5, it's the best I could do! It's a really deep plum purple irl
  15. So I painted my GTX 980 purple, and thought this was the kind of thing to share on the forum. I think it looks cool! I mostly followed the guide Linus had but I didn't have a paint booth, so I just used cardboard haha. I didn't break it!
