Hi all,
I'm in the process of migrating a bunch of files to a 4TB Crucial P3 SSD housed in a Sabrent USB-C M.2 enclosure. Connected to Ubuntu and transferring files with rsync.
I've been getting frequent errors with the drive I'm copying to, some examples below:
rsync: write failed on "<file path>": Read-only file system (30)
kernel:[148154.780708] EXT4-fs (sdc1): failed to convert unwritten extents to written extents -- potential data loss! (inode 135529078, error -30)
rsync: recv_generator: failed to stat "<file path>": Input/output error (5)
rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "<directory path>" failed: Input/output error (5)
*** Skipping any contents from this failed directory ***
Once an error occurs, the drive unmounts itself and the copy fails. I need to unplug and plug in the drive, remount it, and resume the rsync copy manually.
Assuming this was failing hardware, I've since tried three different enclosures and two different SSDs, however errors after copying a lot of data keeps happening. Is it just a case of overloaded or overheating SSD controllers (on the SSD or enclosure?) Or something more serious that I need to be worried about.
Anything I can do to check what's going on? Help much appreciated.
