I've went $1 over the budget but this should be pretty good.
    - i5 6500. Better than the i3 and shouldn't really bottleneck games.
    - 212 Evo for cooling because its a great cooler for its price.
    - Modular PSU for better cable management

For $2 more you can get an EVGA G2 unit which is significantly better quality than the NEX (G1) series. 100W less, but still more than enough for the system.

For this price point this is what I found:
    1440p, 60 hz, IPS
    http://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/YZn2FT/benq-monitor-gw2765ht
    Newegg's price is AUD $545
    1080p, 1440 hz, TN, free-sync
    http://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/Mf98TW/aoc-monitor-g2770pf

IMO, TN is not that bad, my friend owns the ROG Swift pg278q that has a TN panel, I've used it for a while and I don't think it'll be that much of a difference. But it's just me. Overall, it really depends on your needs, if you really think that you can benefit from 144 hz, then I'd say go for the AOC g2700pf, but If you want a better looking 1440p monitor with probably better colors, then I'd say go for the Ben Q gw2765.

Saved some money on getting a cheaper HDD, to get a 6600k and a z170 mobo. Otherwise, I think the parts should work fine.

As he mentioned in the post, he has a budget of under $800 USD, which means that that wouldn't fit in the budget. Also, the 1060 should outperform the 970 mini, so yeah.

    Hey,
your missing a power supply. And if you intend to use wifi, your issing a wireless adapter. Also unless you work with sound all day, there is no need for a sound card. Lastly, instead of using the r9 380, get your hands on an amd rx 480. The rx 480 is only $200 and way more powerful in all aspects than the r9 380.Just my suggestions.

I would not even be considering 4k on that budget, you need a 1080 or even SLI 1080s to get 60fps in 4k at high settings

You could maybe look at 1440p, a card like the new 480 for $200 would be very suitable, or possibly  up coming 1060 etc

Paired with  a decent i5 it would do a good job - OCing will add money to your budget, so is probably something you will might have to skip since a locked i5 and budget board + 480 is already about $450-500

Don't need an i7 for gaming
The CPU is a k series, meaning it can be overclocked with that board
The RX 480 is a $200 graphics card with better performance than the 980, wait until the end of the month for it.
The PSU is much better in terms of internal component quality.
Get the OS off of Kinguin, G2A or /r/microsoftsoftwareswap for like $25.

When building, don't wear socks on carpet. An anti static mat/anti static wristband isn't really necessary.

So, this year, we decided to put together a fun little giveaway for all of the techies in our audience... the chance to give mom, or grandma, or WHOEVER in your life that isn't a techie a tech-focused gift for the holiday!

    The rules are simple:

    - Comment below telling us what gift (value of US$300 or less before tax and shipping on Amazon) you would want to give to your non-techie counterpart and link to that gift on Amazon
    - In your comment, tell us WHO you have chosen to potentially receive that gift (mom, grandma, neighbor, etc.)
    - Also tell us WHY you're getting it for them (eg. a new smartphone because grandpa still has a flip phone)

Make sure your gift is US$300 or less on Amazon.com. If a selected winner has linked to an item with a value greater than US$300 they will be re-drawn!

Winners will have 24 hours to respond here on the forum. If we do not receive a response in 24 hours, we will not hesitate to re-draw.

The three (3) winners will be selected on December 14. Once winners have been selected, they will be contacted by me here on the forum, and will provide the full shipping info for the recipient of their gift. Once we receive that information, we will order the winner's selected gift from the recipient's local Amazon and schedule for delivery by December 25.

There are no age or geographical restrictions to enter this giveaway.

Good luck to all, and happy holidays!

    EDIT: Winners have been selected!

@VictorC777 who selected a Canary All-In-One Home Security Device for their Mother
@Kibelok who selected a Ninja Ultima or the Instant Pot for their mom
And @KirbyTech who selected a point and shoot camera for their dad

Thanks again for entering, and happy holidays to everyone here

    Idea:
In the past few years, I haven't contributed to the community a lot. So recently, I've found this organization called Make A Wish, which helps kids in need and to make their wishes come true. I want to do this project now because we want to help kids with fatal diseases so they can live a happier life and make their dreams and wishes come true before it is too late.

    What I'm planning to do:
I've recently contacted Make A Wish foundation and found out that a child wanted to have a gaming PC, so since I'm into building PCs, I decided to help him. With a helping hand of 2 of my friends, I think I can help this child his dream come true.

    About the PC:
I have a budget of around 750 USD to build this PC, in this build, I've do need a monitor and some peripherals like a mouse and keyboard, and an operating system.
This is what I've came up with.

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zQhmMp   CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($96.89 @ OutletPC)  Motherboard: MSI 970A-G43 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($59.99 @ SuperBiiz)  Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($41.99 @ Newegg)  Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($50.89 @ OutletPC)  Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 380 2GB Video Card  ($184.98 @ SuperBiiz)  Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($45.99 @ Directron)  Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply  ($34.99 @ NCIX US)  Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit)  ($86.89 @ OutletPC)  Monitor: Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23.0" Monitor  ($139.32 @ B&H)  Keyboard: Cooler Master CM Storm Devastator Gaming Bundle Wired Gaming Keyboard w/Optical Mouse  ($26.98 @ Newegg)  Total: $768.91   Conclusion: I hope this PC will make him a lot more happier and I would like to hear from the LTT community! What do you guys think of this? What parts of this build should I change?   Note: I live in Hong Kong, so If you know any good deals of parts in HK, please tell me so I could keep the budget low.   Updates: 1 - Pushed the budget a little bit more, changed GTX 960 to a R9 380.

In PcPartPicker, the most powerful PSU is the 600w one, you might need to go out to find some PSU that are SFX sized but are more powerful. If not, I think you need to change your case to a bigger one, which in this case I would recommend the BitFenix Phenom M which looks great with it's box look and the brushed aluminum.

Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($99.99 @ NCIX US)

    Total: $1161.91

I've changed the PSU to a 750W 80+ Gold certified fully modular EVGA PSU, which will give you clean power and some headroom for some future upgrade. I've also changed the case to a NZXT Phantom 530 (White) which looks pretty good and it gives enough space for you GPU. For the Cooler I've went for the Phanteks' PH-TC12DX_BK 68.5 CFM CPU Cooler, I've read some reviews of it and it says it's a beast for overclocking cooling, so you should be fine with that, also, it's in black and white which will fit your build perfectly. For the RAM, I have gave it a little upgrade from DDR4 - 2133 to DDR4 - 2400 which is a bit faster and it looks better IMO with the silver/black color.

also get either an MSI or an EVGA card, Asus's strix cooler isn't really that good, its decent but not great
