True. I love choosing my own parts because I will have a computer specifically catered to me and my needs. My pre-built pc had some crappy generic motherboard, integrated graphics and a fanless 250 watt power supply.

I hate pre-built PC's. As someone who used to have one I will reveal to you that they are made with the cheapest parts possible and sold at a ripoff price. If you build your own computer, you get much more performance for your money.

As a guy who just got an SSD, it's awesome. Windows boots up way faster and is much more responsive. Programs open quicker and it's just a world of good. Although if your friend wants to play games, he could live without one. Your part list is very good. I'm sure your friend will play those games just fine.

Option A seems to be the safer option. $30 an hour just to drive a guy around is awesome.

Get a new laptop. Upgrading your current one would be a waste of time and money.

I would go for Windows 7 or 10. Best operating systems I've ever used.

I've been using AMD CPU's because they are good for budget builds and they have good price to performance.

I use a Samson Meteor Mic. I got it because it was cheap (Around $50 -$60) and it looks great. I've used it in video editing, voice overs, etc... I say it should serve you well. If you have a larger budget, go for the yeti. Everyone gets the yeti, it is a kickass mic after all.

Here is the full version of my entry for UltraWide Festival 2015. It fully represents the problems I have with my PC (Especially the graphics card part) that I have to deal with only in a more exaggerated sense. I put a few Game of Thrones easter eggs in it just because I like the show.

Playing games on integrated graphics is just sad. ...But I do it everyday.
