For the back light panel it's really more of the same..... i wont bore you with more cut and paint shots.

Again this part dosnt have to be pretty just functional.

All the strips are soldered to 4 pin headers.... i also wont bore you with shots of me soldereing end to wires...... but ppl really do it.
What i will give you is a mind numbing amount of RGB madness!

The reason ive left a cut out for the light is for another accent.
I used to call these "storm" rings..... from a very old mod many years ago. They are cut from 16mm plex sheets and edge routed on an angle. Hard to do by hand very very slow work to try and not loose a finger tip.....

Added to the panel it will add a light feature to the beack panel... but it will also cheat as a fan housing

The light panel can be added to the case with the 4 pin header tucked away in a small top rail.

And the inner panel with ring attached can be added.

Did some one say..... "Can we have some RGB shots of that Defyant"!!!!!

So about five weeks ago I finally (after 14 years of waiting and searching) bought a complete (I mean complete, with all of the flaps, locks, and rear cable management intact) Alienware Aurora case from 2003. This is it as I bought it.

It was smothered all over in rubs, scratches, gouges and stains. This is the rear cable management cage that is always missing.

So I felt safe in adding it to my collection. However, it was work. Hard freakin' work. It took me three days of 10 hour shifts to colour sand, cut, buff and polish the panels.

    Progress...

I also had about six welds to make (plastic weld) to remove cracks and so on. This is a very old case now, so needed a lot of TLC. Then it was time to think about what I actually wanted inside of it. Threadripper? Skylake X? naah.

    £20 on Ebay.

Turned out to be a Athlon XP 2400+ with 512mb DDR4 400. Time for a GPU. Note, because of what I planned to do too much would literally be too much and break every single game I had in mind.

Brand new for £14.55 obligatory badge which cost half of what I paid for the GPU, but needs must right?

DVD rom (IDE, there is no SATA) £5

160gb WD Blue made in 2012 (I was conscious of hours) £13

A sound card, £12 (these are pretty rare)

OK so I paused the buying right now because I wanted to think about what I was going to do inside the rig. Usually when people build these oldskool PCs they do so just with the old stock parts. The problem is that since 2001 things have changed RE - noise. Old components are noisy and would drive me crackers. So, I had a dig through my junk parts box (that is where most of this came from, I needed to use it up) and found a very, VERY old water block.

There were no Orings in those days, you just wrapped plumber's tape around the fittings and did them up. Horrible. First check, does it fit?

    Yup.

I sent it off to my friend who has a mill, along with a slab of 10mm black acrylic. Then I set to work cleaning it with my dremel, then sand, then polish.

Well long time no seen but a lot has been done!:)

Finally it's stained to the mahogany colour I wanted varnishing stars the following monday. I should have the table back by friday in it's full gloss and glory. The finish I wanted for this really pushed the amount of work.

For the ones interested here's how the wood has been prepared,

Dried inside for 2 years. several years before before taking it inside.
Then filed down to the desired shape.
Then sandpaper. Going through the different coursnesses. 120 grit 2 times (every step is dried in between with azetone), 240 grit 2 times, 320 grit 2 times, 400 grit 2 times, 500 grit 3 times, 600 grit 2 times and finally 800 grit 2 times.

After the first coat of varnish I'll sand it to 1200 grit and then to 2000 grit before the next coat and repeating this until it has 4-5 layers of varnish.
Mixing 2 different industrial strenght stains. I made the bottom of the edges a bit nicer
      Let the staining commence
        The back panel
        The rest of the table
I've gone through at least 7 litres of azetone. And like 100 rugs:D Big up again to my friend Michael who's been with me sanding down this beast of a machine

The evolv is known for restricted airflow and most people are modding (cutting) their panels to improve that. I've seen many people do the hexagon shape which looks nice, but imo doesn't really fit the case with those big holes. I still went for the hexagon but a somewhat inverted design, with openings about the same size as the original cutouts on the top. What do you guys think? The case is now ready for the next step: custom waterloop.

    Hey Guy's,

I am back with a little update, feels like I have been here before.

I took the case apart and fully strip it down to bear shell to replace the snapped motherboard tray. It felt like it took me days to de-pin all the cables that ran through the motherboard tray to the motherboard. Once I did this I tape up the perplex and mark all the holes for the motherboard standoff once I did this I tap the holes and added the standoffs.

I put the res in the same place as before but I want to change the hole for the pass through for the intake which I think will look a lot cleaner, I don't like to use a lot of fitting if I don't need to. When it came to do all the holes for my pass through hole I could not find my 20mm drill bit, so I pop on amazon and had it next day, it put me back one day, as I don't like to paint until all holes are made. While I was waiting for the drill bit I replace all the logos on the case fans to AML logo. Once I got the drill bit a few minutes later all the holes were done and it was time to paint. The paint came out great, I fitted motherboard tray back in to the case add the res, motherboard and GPU. I still need to pass all the cables back through and add the the pass through fittings.

With me taken the full case apart I am going re do the basement and make it look a little bit nicer. The build it self, I would say is nearly done and like I said in my last post that it will never be 100% complete, but I am very happy with the way it looks, just need to make sure the hard tubing is on point.

      Time for the next update.
This time it went to the upper barrel, a lot of Plexiglas was cut, bent and glued with Acrifix.
and the last two parts of the mouth

Now the round elements for the reservoir
If ask is please just ask;)
Next time it goes with the AGB holders and it goes to the glass parts in the course which are later illuminated.

    Hey everyone,

I would like to say a big thank you to thermaltake for sponsoring this build they have supply all the fans. I am not a big fan of RGB but I like how much flexibility you have to get the right colour for the theme plus the riing plus fans look great. Thanks again for your support.

I know I said in the last update we are near the end which we still are, but I decided to paint the 360 rads, I have painted these purple and added the alphacool logo in green to match the cables and the theme.

I need to say a big thank you to To the wire - custom sleeving for doing all the cable, he has done a great job.

While the case was transported to to the wire - custom sleeving they did say that some fluid had leaked. I was not to worried about this as the build had been drained. When I got the case back I stripped the full case down to trace the leak and to get the build ready for the final loop. I snapped a bit of the custom motherboard tray when I took the custom res out of the case. I was gutted. I have order more perplex which I should get any day now, I will do a new custom motherboard tray this weekend for the build, I could have glue it but I want the build to be near enough to what I have picture it to be it will never be perfect.

I am really happy on how the front of the case look with the custom front air vents and the tempered glass it really show off the thermaltake riing 140 fans.

I have added a few photos below. I do need your help I have painted one of the thermaltake fans, purple and green I am thinking of having these on the 360 rad above the motherboard, but I am not 100% feeling it, your input would be great.

That's it for this week I will make sure the next post is up on Monday.

Well I kind of skipped ahead and forgot to update this page.  Basically went to the final steps.  I decided to skip custom cabling the power sleeves until I get more practice in.  Will use a spare power supply I have for testing.  I forgot to document earlier testing but I managed to use about a third of the 25ft of sleeving I had.  Would not have enough for everything in this build.

Currently the system is running with no leaks.

Here is the progress up to this point.

    Getting motherboard in case.

Attaching fans and radiator.  Radiators were cleaned with vinegar and distilled water.  The leads were sleeved which came out really nice.  For the PWM fans I could not fit all four cables in a single sleeve so I doubled up.  The three pin fans were single albeit very tight.

Testing the water pump and housing to make sure there were no leaks.

Some bends for the line coming from the CPU to the Radiator.  Also from the Reservoir to the CPU.  For some reason in the back of my mind I thought this was going to be simple but getting the correct length and having it bend at the right spot proved me very wrong.  Almost raged hard when the rubber tubing broke in the pipe while trying to take it out.  You can see the rubber tubing on the bottom piece.  Doing the CPU loop alone took me close to 7 hours.

The mounting plate for the Reservoir + Pump.  Drilled two more holes near the top so I could add another bracket.  Extra bracket is shown is later pictures.

Here is the completed loop.  Surprisingly the GPU loop wasn't to bad.  I did have a small leak with the 90 degree fitting coming out of the bottom card.,

Test run with the colored fluid.

    The system now.

Looks like this is nearing the end of the build.  I will get some better shots of the PC once Windows is done installing and I finish doing the leak test.
