  2. It'll be fine. Not the best PSU in the world, but a 4690k/970 combo isn't going to push it near max capacity -even with both OC'd.
  3. If it still works, it still works. Don't ever give your core voltage 2.0 or you'll likely instakill it. Somewhat surprised you didn't kill it from what you've already done.
  4. Run the iGPU instead of the 970 and see if you get any output.
  5. I've only gotten the live operator once. I think MSFT finally figured out it was cheaper to let the robo-call do it, which is what I've gotten the last 6 times I've done this.
  6. Get to the activation screen, it should ask for a CD key or you should be able to choose to activate over the phone. Choose the over the phone method. Call the number on the screen, tell the numbers displayed to the robot, robot will tell you input values, put them in, job done.
  7. format it as FAT32, not NTFS. Then test it.
  8. I only run fixed voltage on all my systems, voltage is steady besides a little droop down to ~1.45v. Windows high/balanced/custom no difference. Definitely an odd one for me, never encountered anything like this before. I won't have time to deal with it until late next week, gotta get it ready for LanSyndicate.
  9. 1.465v 4.8GHz, when the stupid thing isn't downclocking itself to 800MHz randomly. Still need more time to figure out the source problem. Otherwise, runs great under a custom loop.
  10. Sweet christ do not do that! I think he's confused with VCCIN and Haswell @airdeano Follow this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1570313/skylake-overclocking-guide-with-statistics Keep sys agent and VCCIO under 1.25 and ~1.225 respectively.
  11. Is there a reason you need that exact kit? You can pick up 2x8GB for sub $70, and that's at 2400MHz... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231673&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
  12. You also have to consider finding a board for the 2500k. Unless you have one lying around you're at the mercy of Ebay/Craigslist as well, and a good condition one probably isn't going to come cheap.
  13. Balls. Didn't notice the 960GB Sandisk as not yet purchased. IMO it would be better to go with an additional 250GB 850EVO for your OS and all the Adobe programs, use the 120GB as a scratch/working disk, buy 2 WD 1TB drives and run them in RAID 1 for completed file storage. Not sure if that would skim under the $235 price -trying to maximize your monitor budget as sub $300 for 98%+ Adobe RGB is kind of a bitch at 27".
  14. http://pc4u.org/best-monitor-for-photo-editing-and-photography/#Best_budget_monitor_for_photo_editing_under_300 Under $300 in the last section http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CXhVsY Knocked off all but 2 of the pretty blue fans and swapped the board for an H97. A caveat would be if you planned on running a RAID on a separate SATA controller for completed file archives (how I currently run mine). I haven't run into an H97 with controller port segregation, and since you're upgrading an existing system it would be inadvisable to swap over to RAID from AHCI. I can try to hunt down a Z97 if that's something you feel like you may need in the future, can always go the NAS route too.
  15. everything with "overridden" is not purchased?
  16. Call number on activation screen, poke numbers at a robot for 5 minutes, reactivate with no issues. Done this a handful of times on multiple boards.
  17. http://www.overclock.net/t/1251998/overclocking-amd-fx-8120-on-asrock-990fx-extreme-3 great thread on your specific board/problem. How the hell did a 4+1/2 get a 990 badge?
  18. 4.9, 1.3675v. <3 my favorite overclocking chip
  19. You don't need an aftermarket cooler with the Xeon, the insane amount of fans, or the Z97 board (unless you plan on SLI down the road). R9-390 or 390X would be a better GPU choice unless you absolutely need CUDA as opposed to OpenCL. If you've never worked on a 27" 1080p monitor I'd highly suggest you check them out before you buy, I can't stand my wife's. I couldn't find any reviews for that particular model on TFT Central, but since you're solely operating in the Adobe RGB world I'm fairly confident in saying there are some better panels out there in that price range (or a bit of an increase from getting rid of all the fans ) There were some screaming deals on the PB278Q, not sure if they're still around, but I swear by this thing.
  20. Running a Linux live distro and finding it through terminal may be an option. Should be able to format as FAT32, might make it visible. https://www.garron.me/en/go2linux/format-usb-drive-fat32-file-system-ubuntu-linux.html You'll have to reformat it back to NTFS, or at least you'll probably want to. May be worth a shot.

    Getting there! 1.4v soon.

lol only when I hit 4.9-5.1 territory trying to kill things at 1.65v+. Only thing I'll kill messing with BCLK at 4.1 is stability

    Getting there! 1.4v soon.

ah, crafty. I've only seen the ghetto rigged mounts where someone took the time to measure and gap with calipers. What's up with BCLK btw?

jesus christ that's an asspuckering picture right there. Brave man to hang what amounts to an anvil over a bare die What are you using to space the block off the die? Those look like the standard mounts
  24. Are the case/CPU fans spinning? If no, you're screwed without other parts lying around (namely PSU) If yes, are they staying on as if the machine is running normally? If everything looks normal probably a problem with the GPU, media cable, or the monitor itself.
