we got an order from Pizza Hut to fix 3000+ all in one computers. (Not in a week or anything like that, they send us about 100 at a time and takes about 15 minutes for each one to fix.) On some of the all in ones, roaches have gotten inside of them and have pissed on the power supply and I go in and de-solder and solder new capacitors on. If they can get inside of the computer, just imagine where else they get...

I personally think you should get a 970 as its newer, directx12, less power. The 290 is an amazing card dont get me wrong, the 970 is a better option for the future. If you are down to wait, amd is about to release there new cards soon.

I know the buyout is 50$ more than 600, but its the cheapest system i can rec. for gaming and streaming any sort of quality video to twitch.

It doesn't make any difference. Actually you having over 1600mHz is unnoticeable.

All ram is rated for a CPU at stock speeds. So depending on your CPU overclock it can be varied. Most CPU's can handle up to 2400mhz ram with out it affecting Overclocking.

thats looks like an awsome build, perfect for its budget. that psu is one of the best out there and it'll give you around 100 watt headroom even after sli and overclocking. You can overclock with a 212 evo but if you want to be going higher your gona need to spend more on the cpu cooler. The 5 way is overclocking friendly awsome choice if you wish to overclock. I think its a nice rig. Others might have better opinions for you. BIKBIK

So I'm looking to upgrade from a gaming rig I bought at a monumental bargain way back in 2008. It still works great and it's in excellent shape, but it's starting to show its age here and there, and I feel like it's a good time to make a complete upgrade. I haven't kept up on the newest gear coming out, and seeing as how I bought my rig pre-built way back then, I've never really had to put one together myself, and so I'm still very much a beginner.

I was hoping to fit my new build within a $1000 budget, but after talking to some friends and reading around, I've put together a first draft that comes to around $1250-$1300. This is what it looks like right now:

I was hoping that you guys could possibly give me advice or feedback on how the rig looks so far, and if it would be possible for me to lower the cost without losing performance, boost performance without adding cost, or in the perfect world, both.

This rig will be for strictly gaming and watching/downloading a high volume of movies and TV shows. I have zero intention of ever streaming, and any video/photo editing I might do will be very minimal and should not be taken into account.

I do expect to overclock if I get this rig, but when it comes to it, I'm an absolute noob and have never overclocked anything before. My cousin recommended the Z97-A for the 5-way optimization, which does appeal to me, but I'm very open to tips and advice on anything and everything, so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I also forgot to mention! Im hoping to get a second 970 in the future when they drop in price, so I do hope to SLI in the future.

Watch Dogs barely supports the PC at all, but it does show there are still AAA games out there that have issues with crossfire even if the technology itself works pretty well.

Go for a single card if you can. Not  worth the hassle of crossfire.
Although crossfire works pretty well in itself, there are still some AAA game that don't support it properly (like Watch Dogs).

For now, but games are using more and more VRAM. 2GB is just barely cutting it for now, but even over the next few months it will start to be not enough for 1440p

Pretty much every new game coming out scales well with CF/SLI, so in the future 970 SLI will work very well

In brute performance, two 270s and a 970 will be a neglectable difference. However there's many things to consider such as scaling in games, and limited VRAM.

    Two 270s for 1080p, one 970 for 1440p

I would opt for the GTX 970 since the performance is much closer to that of the GTX 780 (you can check something like gpuboss as a example comparison or any written review).

Go 970 or 280 crossfire. The 280/x is imo the cheapest card worth crossfiring.
