They only start to throttle at 82c, and reviews have them at 35c idle ,so your temps aren't that bad, but if you really want to cool it, you could get a antec spotcool to cool it (http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Spot-Cool-SpotCool-System/dp/B000I5KSNQ)

The Q9550 is the best cpu you can get for that mobo it seems (from what i can tell its a rebranded ecs g43t-m board, which only supports up to a q9550,so no c2q extremes or xeons in the list)

Flamewalker got a reaction from Desert_Lizard in DDR 2 vs DDR 3 help
Going from a core 2 duo @ stock speeds to an i5 3330 will gain you alot of performance

This should say more then enough really (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487-13.html)
As for ddr2 vs ddr3 on socket 775 , basicly past 800mhz the performance gains were neglectable(in real world applications like gaming) on ddr2 and with ddr3 there isn't a gain really on socket 775 apart from going from 4gb to 16gb ofcourse

Flamewalker reacted to VSG in EK sure are "fans" of themselves!
Got permission from EK to post my findings for the F4 fan I had requested:

Note that this is a pre-production sample, but I couldn't resist requesting one for the sponsored build in the TX10-D. The packaging is finalized and tells you exactly what fan it is (the F4 in this case) and also the maximum fan RPM.

On the back we get tech specs and also the P-Q curve which, as others have seen, is similar to that of the respective Gentle Typhoon fan.

Nothing new on the side, and we see the contribution from Slovenia and the manufacturing company in China listed out here.

As I said this is a pre-production sample, and so there was only the fan in here. The final versions should come with 4 self-tapping screws and a few other cosmetic improvements. But enough about all this, let's take a look at the actual item:

As I said, cosmetic improvements incoming

I believe the heatshrink is getting a makeover and the label on the back of the hub will be done, not 100% sure about the retail sample sleeving material but I will likely buy a few anyway.

The advertized specs list a PWM duty cycle of 40-100%, but I was able to get it to as low as 20% on a single fan. The RPM response curve is mostly linear, especially from 25-95% where I suspect most people will be running this at anyway. Noise levels aren't the lowest I have seen at a particular fan RPM but when adding in the airflow through a radiator (a 11 FPI, 30mm thick 120mm radiator in push orientation), things get very impressive. As always, measurements were done 6" away from the fan to minimize background effects and also get the measurements in the >95% confidence range of measurement of the instruments used.

Here's how the GT AP-45 and eLoop B12-4 stack up (having removed the Swiftech Helix120 owing to potential uncontrolled variables and re-plotted as requested):

I will say that the AP-45 was not at it's best from 9-11 V here with an unpleasant buzz that I could hear in the open- not necessarily an issue inside a case a few feet away. But you can see that while the AP-45 and Vardar F4 are very identical in airflow through the radiator, the Vardar F4 is slightly quieter most of the time. The eLoop B12-4 needs a lot more fan speed to hit the same levels of airflow as the other two, and with it comes more noise. Another thing I will point out is that I was able to get the AP-45 all the way down to 186 RPM at 2V without issues, but at that point the airflow was lower than the reliable detection limits of the anemometer. Needless to say I am going to get a few more of these for the TX10-D radiators, and will test out the other NB eLoops also soon.

Flamewalker got a reaction from NoStringsOnMe in Will it fit? GTX970 into my case
There aren't alot of reviews of this case but It looks like you only got 10,6" gpu clearance(http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/articles_pages/thermaltake_wingrs_301_mid_tower_case,3.html) so it's going to be real tight seeing as the msi gtx 970 twinfrzer is 10,59" long.

The best way to be sure, is to actually grab a tape measure and measure it, seeing as there isn't alot of info about the case your using.

If you haven't used a Gentle Typhoon before, you don't understand.

The force of air they push at low RPMs is ridiculous. And they are as close to silent as a fan can get.

If you feel the frame of the fan at 1850RPM, there is no vibration in the frame. The only noise you get is air flow noise. Insane.

The same DRM only managed to protect Shadow of Mordor Lords of the Fallen for about 1 week. The same DRM has been linked to lots of bugs, crashes and some performance issues in the game. There way the DRM works might also limit mods (by preventing altered game files from working).

Honestly, I hope the DRM is awful and cracked really quickly. We need more people to realize how bad DRM is and developers to walk the same path as CD Project Red.

Edit: I got Shadow of Mordor and Lords of the Fallen mixed up. Sorry about that.

Flamewalker got a reaction from failblox in Slow SSD speeds
The advertised speeds back then were pretty much always done with atto so they weren't lying, sandforce based ssd all do worse with incompressible data (.exe ,zip files etc), but they reach their speed if its compressible

This graph pretty much shows what i mean

As for other ssds, aslong as you get a ssd that doesn't have a sandforce chipset then you don't see this happening (not often, the kingston v300 is another story really since they just swapped nand), for example with a samsung 840 evo ssd it won't matter if its compressible or not since it uses a samsung mex controller and you will get similar speeds in atto vs as ssd

Flamewalker reacted to GoodBytes in Dell New UltraSharp U2415 Monitor
Dell is preparing the release the U2415 monitor
The monitor is a true thin border monitor, like the U2414H, but now, is in 16:10 aspect ratio flavor, which is excellent news for 16:10 lovers out there, especially that the aspect ratio is hard to find these days. It sports an AH-IPS non-glossy 1920x1200 6ms response time panel (with game mode enabled).

It features white LED backlight, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 5-port USB 3.0 hub and fully adjustable stand.
As inputs, it has 1x full-size DisplayPort, 1x mini-DisplayPort and 2x HDMI, plus 1x DisplayPort OUT for daisy chaining (up to three monitors).
The monitor, like more and more monitors and systems these days, doesn't have VGA (this 80's technology is finally dying!)
The monitor cost 3,299 Yuan or about (with direct conversation. Son the price might be cheaper or more) $537 U.S.
It should be coming out to other regions in the world shortly.

@LinusTech Some reasons for controlling your fans on your smartphone would be if you were out of the house and leaving the PC/s folding or mining. The ability to control your fans or even turn off your PC/s would be very helpful if the CAM software reports something going wrong, like a fan or multiple fans failing or temperatures unexpectedly increasing.
