What the heck, ordered a kit lol. Only cost me $109.65 (according to what paypal withdrew from my bank) with international insured shipping. I know paypal has my back if something goes wrong, worst outcome is I have to wait a month or so for paypal to give me my money back. I guess we'll see!

The pci-e bottleneck is almost non existent... My 2c/4t 2.8Ghz cpu is the real culprit, for the low minimum fps anyways.

I havent done this yet but apparently you can also get Chrome, Firefox, Opera on there. One downside to the SHIELD is the lack of a web browser. Especially since you can use KB/M. But doing it that way maybe you can get Airdroid on there or just go to web.airdroid.com and sign in to copy files to and from the computer. Or you can LAN/WAN connect but you have to type in the IP/MAC which isn't too hard just a hassle. Browsers would make installing the apks you download easier. However, I was just able to get uTorrent on Kodi! should be able to download pretty much anything now. 

Actuallythat's what I meant by sideloading. There are various ways that you can get non-SHIELD apps on there. I have ePSXe on there, Kodi XMBC which comes with a bunch of repos to download utilities that will allow you to install more apk files. But one of the easiest ways is just to go to play.google.com and choose the device to install as your SHIELD which is why you should use the same email as your phone assuming you have apps/games you bought and want to keep. Not every app/game will let you just download from the site, but enough to get started. Really  you only need ES File Explorer and Kodi, and Sideload Launcher, all of which kind of work together. there are plenty of videos on youtube that explain it pretty well. I am still trying to find this one guys I saw about getting all the ROMs in the right places. Idk and I wouldn't be surprised if there are PS2 emulators for android out there, it's certainly powerful enough on plenty of phones, and especially tablets. N64, PSX, Gamecube and Wii have their own in 1 called the Dolphin Emulator. Mostof these you can't just download straight from the play store, but you can download them from online and use Kodi to install them. I was able to get Snes9x and ePSXe on there through the playstore though. Even without that stuff it's definitely my favorite device to use for netflix, hulu, and youtube just because it's so quick., And I won't lie I play PC games more on my SHIELD than on my computer. Something about just being able to sit down on the couch.  Yes you are stuck at 60 fps but assuming your connection and computer can push that, you will see it output that on your SHIELD. Weirdly enough I got a Steam Link and Controller, more out of curiosity than anything, and I have not been able to get a decently playable latency,it's aways at least 30ms! On Shield it's like 4ms max assuming you are using AC.

I can personally confirm that having a cpu in a laptop like the i7 6500U, while running an eGPU, is almost useless. 
 
My laptop's i7 3517U will turbo to 2.8Ghz across its cores and when having my gtx 970 hooked up to it through a pcie 2.0 x2.1 interface, minimum fps was almost unchanged from the dedicated 8750m inside the laptop itself. Average fps obviously increased massively, but having a lower clocked quad core would have helped more.
 
MSI's GS30 (also ~$1,000) is the best design so far, although the dock could use an upgrade.

I have a dual core broadwell i7 in my laptop, and if the dual core skylake is anything like it, it will feel absolutely useless.

lol I bought the 500GB version. Wish I had got the 16GB but either way it's a great little TV set box. I'm not really console/PC gaming biased, and own a XB1, PS4, and of course my PC with a GTX980Ti in a Z97 board with 4790k running it. Anyways, I dropped my SHIELD TV (they just call it a SHIELD, which is just annoying for googling purposes, reminds me of Nintendo calling their New 3DS XL a New 3DS XL...obviously looking up that before it came out was a b****). But I dropped it and the bottom came off, which wasn't a bad thing, but I noticed the 500GB HDD is actually a Seagate SSHD. Not a huge detail, but something to take note of. One could always take it out and put a smaller drive or SSD in there, but I wouldn't bother putting an SSD inside because it doesn't really even power off, just standby, and is instant on and even if it weren't, the SSD portion of the drive would boot it up instantly. The only benefit I can see of having the HDD in there is if you wanted to sideload some android emulators, like a PSX/SNES/NES/Genesis/etc...anything android uses, And then you could load that thing up with a TON of games. I have the emulators on there, I just haven't had the time to get the ROMs or really care anytime soon, but some people may. However, you can also just use an external HDD or even a Flash Drive. In fact, I have a few 128GB USB 3.0 Thumb drives, which is what I used to load some of the .apk apps onto it and some ROMs. but it uses the same filesystem as an android, so you just go to root, and then you see SD (which is the internal drive annoyingly), but USBA/B would be those, unless you had a hub for some odd reason.
 
A few other things to take into consideration is you can use pretty much ANY android compatible controller, and I would really reccomend it. I'm thinking about getting the Razer Forge controller just because the NVIDIA SHIELD's is just so damn bulky, although it does last quite a while. Another thing is TAKE ADVANTAGE of Amazon's deal on the SHIELD Remote. It's MSRP is 50 bucks, which is crazy for a remote but if you don't have any consoles, and you use this more often (I find myself using it more than my other consoles sometimes anyways just because my Steam Library has so much stuff I haven't played and when I'm bored it gives me a chance to just roll through the ones I got in bundles or whatnot). I think it's obvious, but you need an NVIDIA card in your computer to stream your games. It's also a little weird. You open GeForce Experience on you computer and it will detect the games that use NVIDIA's PhysX features and are optimized for their cards, but you can also load up steam as if it were a game, and then I believe it shows it in Big Picture and you can just play like that, so you should be able to play your entire Steam Library (or anywhere it is on your HDD/SSDs). I believe you can also stream Windows Metro App Games bought in the Windows Store but you have to locate them and add it into GeForce's folder library, I haven't tried it. Also, assuming you have any Android games, if you sign in with the same email you can play the same games and download them, assuming they are available on the SHIELD. But there are plenty of free games, and some neat games only the SHIELDs can DL. 
 
Where the SHIELDs really shine though is streaming (not just from the computer), but in GeForce Now. For 7.99 you basically get a decent library of games you can play, most of them, are late PS3/360 era games, but they do run at 60FPS/1080p, some games are newer. You can buy games too, although those I believe you download, I haven't done it because I have all the games I want that are on there like the Witcher 3. But if you buy the games on there they usually give you some kind of way to download it on your PC as well so unless its cheaper , I really see no point. But as for the 500GB HDD, unless you use it for a reason like I said, or you want to load a library of videos, which is also kind of dumb as it has Hulu, Netflix, as well as Plex and any DLNA server, including iTunes libraries. So again, what did I buy the 500GB Drive for? I thought about returning it but it's been a while, so i don't care. Also I wouldn't worry about having ethernet plugged in as long as you have an AC connection, you will have more than enough bandwidth.
 
Long explanation bu just outlining the benefits of the SHIELD. They lowered the tablet from about 400 or 500 to 200. I've actually thought about buying it just because it's still one of the best Android tablets even without the gaming aspect, but I think they will announce a new tablet with a Tegra X1 or a new processor specifically for the tablet (K2? It'd be cool to see a shield TV with a Tegra 'X2'). It's damn powerful, which just make me think how crazy it is compaed to the XB1/PS4. It runs silent, is small as hell, and is just badass. I just like my consoles for multiplayer and exclusives (but my PC has the same benefits...except great multiplayer in my opinion).

Good catch! Didn't see that listed on Amazon but further research shows this to be the case. Looks like there's a connector for a normal drive though, so we're good there, but I guess I won't be using it in my desktop as I don't have M.2

My friend got the asrock z75 motherboard for his 2600 and it works fine. Even overclockable to 4.2Ghz, might want to get a hyper 212 evo or something for that. He also has a 7870 but he games on a 900p monitor so it's enough for him.

I did the opposite. I upgraded my fx 6350 (4.8Ghz 1.455v) to an i7 4790k (stock then) and still kept my 7870. The only game I vividly recall exact numbers on was in BF4. Like you, I got 70fps+ (high preset 2x msaa), although I never had dips below 60fps with my shiny new cpu. Before it was 45-70 every game. That was the reason I got upgraded my cpu first. In any other game there was the normal range of ~20fps difference between max/min, but I could, and would, adjust the graphics settings to get that magic 60fps minimum. 
 
I couldn't stand that no matter the settings, the minimum fps with my overclocked fx 6350 was trash.
