A bios update will work in most cases you would need to check the manufactures support page but you will miss out on allot features so getting a new motherboard would not hurt anything. -
Can a modern ATX PSU be used in an old ATX PC?

Depends if the HP mid tower has a normal PSU. allot of prebuilts have proprietary power connections and sizes -
I had 2 of them and no I built PC's in them and sold them. The case was very fun to build in and I wish Thermaltake would still make that case instead of copying others.

ya the 16 gigs of ram could be swapped out with a 1TB NVMe SSD also the cooler is kind of meh.. but over all the build is good.
