    Project BoomBerryPi
The thing just might explode with all of that water.. also thanks to @Den-Fi for the name !
Oh yeah, it's that time of year again !
Come, have a seat, and join me on this new Raspberry Pi custom case project !
As some might recall, this is not my first Pi case. My previous project the ThinkPI is currently on hold due to part unavailability.
This Pi project however, is merely the start of a new bigger project : Project Radinator (Build log to come). This project will mostly serve as a prototype for it.

Link to Level1Techs version of this build log : https://forum.level1techs.com/t/boomberrypi-new-chassis-new-tricks/153771

    So, what is it ?
It's a custom case with intergrated watercooling.. For a Raspberry Pi
I know this makes little sense for a Pi, but it makes a lot more sense for the full case. the water cooling here is just for fun.
Enjoy most likely the most overkill Raspberry Pi case out there

Entire cost (excluding the Pi) should be under 200$
Now that might sound like a lot, but that's because I have yet to get a quote for the case.
(I estimate 100$ cad but I doubt it's gonna be anywhere close to that, more like 50$ tops)

    Components :
Raspberry Pi 3b+ Noctua NF-A4x10 (x2) Alphacool DC-LT (and likely top) or this Copper tubing (4mm OD) Aluminium welding rods Aluminium for the case (duh)

    Link to the updates :
    Updates to come..

    The plan :
So, the plan is to draw up the case in 3D (photos below) and to have it laser cut out of 1mm aluminium sheets. the sheets will have holes in them (they're 1cm wide, the holes are 4mm in diameter)  for the copper tubing to go through. There will be a spacer between each fin, however I am still undecided on how to hold them all together (I'd want to avoid welding, considering the size)

Here are some design renders as of today :
The side I/O (as seen by the top opening) will be routed to the back on the other side of the panel. I will probably end up with either another metal plate or a 3d printed block.

Now, here's the (slightly) troubling part.. For the copper tubing to go through to the front radiator fins, I have to cut a hole in 2 of the fans (in and out)..
    Owell  Featuring a double 90* bend :

For some help understanding how the copper goes through the fins, have a look at the bigger case :
Note that there will not be anything on the top for the pi, only the front :

Note that there will be a side panel like on the bigger version :

Oh and speaking of the bigger version.. here's a size comparison

The left is holding an E-ATX motherboard.. more on that later

    That's all for now.
I hope to have some news soon !

abyss03 got a reaction from george357 in star hangar or ebay???
As per to the sites, they are both "Grey Markets" so they are at your own risk on if the sellers are trustworthy or not. They will be more expensive than buying it from RSI but it is a limited time ship that only recently went on its original concept sale so don't imagine it'll be any time soon. You can either risk it or wait it out in the hopes that it'll come back, well the 3rd option I guess is to pick something else that is on sale.

You can rent ships if you play the game currently and earn enough aUEC so that might be another option, you can also buy those ships using the aUEC but I do not believe that they will persist throughout wipes (Though they are reportedly going to happen "less often")

The star runner is still in concept stage so there is no timescales for it at the moment. Assuming that they start the pipeline with the Star Lifter in 4.x something then we might see it sooner.

With the recent alpha 3.3 patch being really good performance wise and it giving us the ability to purchase ships with in-game money Star Citizen is finally starting to become more and more of a game.
Coincidentally the 6 year anniversary of the Kickstarter funding is coming up next week so CIG is doing their annual anniversary sale which will be accompanied by a free flight event where everyone with a Star Citizen account can test the game and all it's currently flyable ships with no purchase or credit card required. From 23rd of November to 1st of December you can test the whole flyable lineup of each ship manufacturer to your hearts contend and also explore any currently available planets like Crusader, Dalamar and possibly even Hurston and their moons or try out any of the various missions.
If you're interested but don't have an account yet I highly suggest using the referral code picker provided by the local Linus Tech Tips Organization to grab some in-game money when signing up and if you have any questions or would like to meet some fellow citizens to help you out with tips, tricks or crew members, feel free to join our Discord server (which is not the official LTT discord btw)

abyss03 got a reaction from Inelastic in SC 3.3 CPU bottleneck!
Oh yeah sure that should probably be the case but people shouldn't make a dream SC PC any time soon. As I said before this is still alpha, they are implementing features over optimising performance at the moment, we are lucky that object container streaming has benifited our performance as much as it has right now. Before now the performance was heavily bottlenecked on the server side end!

Optimisation is still needed as they have found player count isn't the issue however doing things like exploding a Caterpillar full of cargo over a planetary base upsets the servers. Read more here:

Squadron 42 demo was posted, personally I recommend watching the whole thing then listening to the directors commentary as they address a lot of issues I had with the gameplay.
Personally I thought the acting and scripting was 10/10. Best scam ever.

In other news, CIG are now going to quarterly year releases due to becoming to feature focused and not releasing enough in the previous year

    Org Related
After a stressful year and agreeing with Corwin, I have handed ownership of the Discord Channel to him. He was already running 90% of it and it allows me to focus on more of the planning Saturday meet ups and more org stuff. If your not already on the chat join here:
    https://discord.gg/GxmAHM6

We finally hit the 3000 member mark, not bad for an org that isn't game related that refused to push up numbers by aggressive invitation.

Squadrons are being reassessed for roles in game, more on that next year.

    Battle EXtravaganza 3.0
BEX 3.0 will be making a come back, it will involve fleet and squadron leaders fighting over different locations of the PU. Seperate thread to follow on that. This will also be the application that Code Wars will be creating

    The Council
The Council will be established in 3.0 soon, not all roles will be available at the start as there is no trading nor will we be taxing until orgs 2.0/3.0 kicks in, however we will be testing the waters, once prepped and agreed with the High Council we will open to elections.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

    1) it will vary but yeah thats fine, the game is going to be high end when it comes out and its not even remotely done yet

    2) the graphics settings dont do much yet they are mostly focusing on content

    3) hit the tilde key (the little ` above your tab button) when in game and type in. r_motionblur = 0

bonus: if you want to get rid of vsync because its more of a nuisance type in: r_vsync = 0

4 years in development is still a relatively small amount of time in the grand scheme of things given the budget they now have.

I admit Star Citizen has a very big case of feature creep but I would rather that than make a game to a lower budget and then just keep the rest of the money as profit. I don't know if 2016 was the first release date, I do remember rumours of releases around 2014 and 2015 but never thought that was an option in reality. I'm personally happy just to sit hear and get drip fed star citizen content and wait in the long haul for Squadron 42

Interrogative sentences are punctuated with a question mark. Unless it is a rhetorical question, which yours isn't. Because it has a very firm answer.

No - we can not call it dead, quite the opposite. What you call " semi-working but mostly broken gameplay features that were never suppose to be in the game" are features that are very much part of the game and are getting less and less broken as the Alpha progresses.

Even though it is a crowd-funded indie endeavor, Star Citizen has grown into the largest and most ambitious gaming project in history. And I say this with no hyperbole. There has literally not been a game developed on this scale. Ever. As such, it will take time to develop. So far it is well within the regular development cycle of a normal game and has actually taken much LESS time than a number of popular and less ambitious AAA titles.

    Here are some for perspective:

Dragon Age: Origins - 5 years
    Half Life 2 - 5 years
    Morrowind - 6 years
    Fallout 3 - 6 years
    L.A. Noire - 7 years
Star Craft 2: Wings of Liberty - 7 years
    Spore - 8 years
    Team Fortress 2 - 9 Years
    Prey - 11 years
    Diablo III - 11 years

So you tell me. Can we call it dead yet?
