I think people don't really bother, as the last one kinda spiraled down into insults and then it got locked. It would be fine if everyone was civil about it, but that rarely ever happens

I have been informed, in the banning game thread, that posts in off topic don't add to your post count below your name, Presumably to encourage people to participate in the other areas of the forum

Something like this would do the trick Dual 6 Pin Female to Single 8 Pin Male PCI-E Power Cable Not sure where you are in the world, so linked US Amazon, but searching for that in whatever local stores you have should provide you with a result. Just make sure that the two 6 pins are capable of supplying the power required to run the 1060, other than that, you should be good.

Not 3 years ago, more like 4.5, but i would tell myself that not all Windows PC's are terrible just because your laptop with a 1.86GHz Celeron and 2GB of ram is, and also that the school network is not MacBook exclusive, so you can probably get a decent windows laptop instead of the MacBook Pro that will need replacing halfway through high school. Not getting a Macbook would also help in not becoming tied to OSX only apps.

Learnt this the hard way, getting an SSD for my MBP and then switching to running Windows 10 as the changes Apple are making, both in terms of software (disk utility on OSX is now a sack of shit, Photos is terrible compared to iPhoto) and hardware (Macbook with one port, headphone jackless iPhone), don't suit what I want from my technology. Slowly making myself less reliant on OSX apps, iPhoto is probably the last to go, uploading the last of the photos from there to my Flickr as I type this.

AFAIK it's running on Frostbite 3, which is what powers Star Wars Battlefront, as well as Battlefield 4, which is why it would feel similar. When i first played the Star Wars beta last year, I was struck by how much the physics and movement felt like BF4. Haven't downloaded the beta yet, I got my code on the day they were released, but haven't had time to download it as of yet

Probably just tweaks to the engine over time BF4, after all, was released 3 years ago

If your running it as a HTPC and a server, then i would recommend checking out openELEC, it has a decent interface for HTPC use, with the ability to install apps for Netflix, Hulu etc. It sets itself up as a Samba share on the network, so you can easily access its storage over the network.

What gameservers are you looking to run? if there is a linux version of the server software you should be good to go, you'll just need to SSH into the machine and do setup via the command line, which isn't too difficult, just some basic linux commands.

As for hardware, the only recommendation i can make is to get a decent Network card, and dont even consider wifi. it will be horribly slow.

Some links to help you out

Im pretty sure that that's a rear projection TV, which doesn't use tubes. They were made in sizes up to about 100", so its probably rear projection

When you have multiple PCs and boxes of spare parts so troubleshooting is a breeze

You spend your spare time speccing out PCs for friends and family on PC Part Picker
You become tech support for all of your teachers.
Your parents just smile and nod their heads when you talk to them about tech.
You get annoyed when you can't ssh into your VPS from school

Hey guys, i wanted to make a htpc for me to watch as i like to watch stuff while i fall asleep, so i got caught on the idea of a Raspberry pi, So grabbed a Raspberry Pi 2, a small 7inch monitor and i already had my powerbank.

    Parts:

Raspberry pi 2- £31.90 ( need cables and memory stick+memory card)

    7inch HDMI monitor £59.00

    Power bank 26000mah £59.99

128GB USB 3.0 or 2.0 £33.99 and £29.99 respectively ( belive pi only uses 2.0 however 3.0 is nice when transferring big files)

So yea, for short i think this is pretty cool, i have a large capacity bank and two low power devices i haven't had a chance to test battery life as i purely had the idea earlier and the bank isn't fully charged. It also takes a while so ill try tomorrow if i remember. Didnt think it was worth of review just a quick show
