  1. The old vault server had approx. 170TB of storage, and that was pretty much full to the brim when they switched onto the petabyte project server. With the size or the RED footage they've been working with recently, I would say it's probably somewhere around 200TB of disk usage. No way of knowing for sure, but i would say that that would be a decent estimate
  2. I think its tagline of "Uselessly Useful" could apply to facets of Linus Media Group as well
  3. Done Just as a side not to @Mug, from my experience, the Research Project is as much about evaluation of research as it is the actual research itself, and a large portion of that is analysing what was done well and what could be improved. Talking about those potential biases is just what the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) board wants to hear, as it shows you can not only conduct the research, but also think critically about the different parts and their validity. It doesn't matter too much if some of the research isn't 100% sound, just so long as you are able to analyse it critically and identify the improvements that would need to be made in the future. I did Year 12 last year, and i think my question was something along the lines of "To what extent does anonymity affect the behaviours of people online, and what effects do these behaviours have on people?" think I ended up with a B+ overall for mine, which i was fairly happy with. Also to @rowlYy, as it turns out, i'm not that far from you, I live down near McLaren Vale, and so was at Willunga High last year, but i'm at TAFE this year, doing IT Networking.
  4. Hello all I'm looking to remove a line in the system info in the screenfetch output. I want to get rid of the GPU line, as i don't need it there, and the line of text is unnecessarily long. I know that there should be a config file somewhere on the system, but im not sure where it is located, or if i can remove the GPU line from within it. I installed screenfetch on my machine using apt-get, and not by cloning from git, not sure if this has any effect of not Cheers
  5. I think people don't really bother, as the last one kinda spiraled down into insults and then it got locked. It would be fine if everyone was civil about it, but that rarely ever happens
  6. I've put notices on local noticeboards in the past, usually offering to collect the computers from people. If someone is going to throw a PC away, having someone collect it is often no more work that them throwing it away. You'll probably get more older stuff, Pentium4/PentiumD but even if some of the components are usable then you could probably build something by gathering parts from a few old systems.
  7. I have been informed, in the banning game thread, that posts in off topic don't add to your post count below your name, Presumably to encourage people to participate in the other areas of the forum
  8. Banner for breaking the forum... Seriously, it says under your name next to your posts that you have 0 posts, despite the fact that that text is right next to a post you have made
  9. Something like this would do the trick Dual 6 Pin Female to Single 8 Pin Male PCI-E Power Cable Not sure where you are in the world, so linked US Amazon, but searching for that in whatever local stores you have should provide you with a result. Just make sure that the two 6 pins are capable of supplying the power required to run the 1060, other than that, you should be good.
  10. TBH i actually only have a Yahoo account to use Flickr, and don't use the email except for when flickr requires me to. It sucks for email, especially if you desire to get to Inbox Zero, as if you do, it starts some autoplay video ad. Like actual WTF
  11. This is me at the moment, I've owned a MacBook Pro since the start of 2012, and it was a breath of fresh air compared to my sluggish low spec windows laptop of the time. Generally i've been quite happy with it as a machine, and even replaced it when the WiFi broke, currently typing on it right now in fact. But lately I've been more and more annoyed with the decisions apple are making in terms of hardware and software, and am in a process of switching over to Windows as my primary OS on my laptop, which is my primary computer. In terms of software, im annoyed by Apple's crippling of Disk Utility to make it more "User Friendly" while subsequently cutting features in the process, as well as the replacement of iPhoto with Photos, which again has less features than its predecessor. hardware wise I'm mostly against apple turning toward one port devices (Macbook and iPhone 7) and devices that are not upgradeable. I own a Mid 2012 Non Retina MBP, that i am thankful that I can upgrade the hardware of. I'm Planning to replace the 1TB HDD with a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo in the near future, something that i would be unable to to on any of the new Retina Pro models, due to them having SSDs that are soldered to the Logic Board. That said, this model can only have up to a Dual Core i7 Sandy Bridge CPU, and only comes with an 1200x800 screen, so it isn't suitable moving into the future. Once this machine finally bites the dust, I almost certainly wont buy another MacBook again, and will likely replace it with a 15" Dell Inspiron.
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp1KutlhZYs Older video here where linus shows their camera gear, which includes the prompter, which is a Listec unit, with a galaxy tab 10.1 as the screen. He also shows the control device, a small bluetooth keyboard that he straps to his leg

    Linus meme

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/11302-post-linus-memes-here-original-thread-has-returned/ This probably belongs here ^ rather than in a new thread of its own
  14. Not 3 years ago, more like 4.5, but i would tell myself that not all Windows PC's are terrible just because your laptop with a 1.86GHz Celeron and 2GB of ram is, and also that the school network is not MacBook exclusive, so you can probably get a decent windows laptop instead of the MacBook Pro that will need replacing halfway through high school. Not getting a Macbook would also help in not becoming tied to OSX only apps. Learnt this the hard way, getting an SSD for my MBP and then switching to running Windows 10 as the changes Apple are making, both in terms of software (disk utility on OSX is now a sack of shit, Photos is terrible compared to iPhoto) and hardware (Macbook with one port, headphone jackless iPhone), don't suit what I want from my technology. Slowly making myself less reliant on OSX apps, iPhoto is probably the last to go, uploading the last of the photos from there to my Flickr as I type this.
