Linus has a vid on RAM channels on Techquickie (link below). If you don't use a 2 DIMM kit for dual channel then the 2 modules might not work in dual channel, since they are not optimised to do so. You could sell the current one and buy a kit (that's what I'd do), or just try your luck and buy an "identical" stick. Not much info on soDIMMs however, but I'd guess that as long as it's DDR3 there won't be any difference in the way they work.
