  1. But I'm able to achieve high speeds with a direct link with no router? Shouldn't it be a software issue??
  2. Well, I did a firmware upgrade on my router, and wireless speeds went up to 2.8 MBPs, faster than my ISP combo. However, transfer speeds from the NAS have slightly decreased. This does not make any sense to me.
  3. Well yea, it would appear as if it's a dual core instead of the previous quad core, hence why I wanted to do this sort of thing on the previous router. Still though, is there nothing else I can do to increase transfer speeds with my current hardware?
  4. Not high end, no. My other one is better; wireless internet speeds are slower and current transfer speeds are slower on the new router. I have not done any previous file transfers on this router before.
  5. Back online on the new router. My internet speeds are the same, however transfer speeds from the NAS are now around 3.25 MBPs max instead of 4 from before. However, I do have full access to all the routers options now, so that's a plus.
  6. Still through the combo, the Cisco router is not in the picture yet.
  7. Yes. All traffic is currently directed through this router.
  8. Windows didnt want to add the 192.... ip as a network drive. tried http://192... and nothing. It's currently added as a network drive under \\Server\Share This same configuration was used when I achieved the aforementioned 80 MBPs before using a direct ethernet link from my PC to the NAS
  9. It appears as if both of these were done already, so this is not the solution. Anything else?
  10. I'll put it online. How would I configure the NAS to act as a local server on the network, and not as an outside server that needs to be accessed over the internet?
  11. Offline, or with an internet connection from my router? I'm not exactly experienced in networking, so I'm not exactly sure what I'd need to do.
  12. Megabytes. I would have ripped my hair out if it was in megabits. If that is the case with the router, I do have another Cisco router I can set up and use, though I would very much prefer if it was on the same network.
  13. A few months ago, my family bought themselves a Synology NAS, and since we have purchased it, I could not find a way to get this thing to do transfers at a decent speed over our network. It is wired directly into my modem/router combo from Bell(ISP), which my dad has unfortunately locked down for no apparent reason, but if I can fix this problem, he'd probably let me in to do so. My PC has a direct wired connection to the router, and achieves speeds around 4.5 MBPs down/ 1 MBPs up. Our internet speeds are not too far off from this, around 2.75 down, 0.3 up. When I directly wire my PC to the NAS, I can achieve speeds of around 80 MBPs to my SSD, which leads me to believe there is some sort of networking error in the way we have things set up. This NAS will be mostly accessed by wireless devices throughout the house (PLEX server), so getting a switch isn't an option, since my PC is the only one in the house that has an ethernet connection. Any ideas on what I can do?
  14. I'm experiencing a similar problem, but I think I've just got my network set up wrong. From my Synology NAS to my PC, I'm getting ~4 MBps, however the link goes through my internet router. When I run them between their gigabit ethernet ports, I see speeds around 80 MBps, which I would have expected to be higher.
  15. I would either buy an on hub router for my grandparents (if it's available in Canada, can't remember off the top of my head) or a new phone for my little cousin who is currently using a practically unusable (and broken) Samsung phone that was low end 3 years ago.
  16. Heat is more of a problem than you might think. This is going to be for my family (I'm 17) and my mom HATES things that look out of place. Therefore, this HTPC is going to sit in a mostly enclosed cabinet, suffering, unless it's playing games or I'm around to let it breathe. Whenever my mom is around, that thing is going to be closed.
  17. For some reason the G3220 is the same price as the G3258 in Canada. I'll go with whatever is cheaper when I'm buying
  18. No overclocking will take place, and I probably should switch out the CPU for some other, cheaper pentium anyways. I just chose the G3258 because I've heard good things about it and it's competitively priced.
  19. It would be nice to have an i3, but a pentium will probably work just fine for me
