It's probably the voltage, I guess it's probably around 1.35V+. Anything past 1.35V+ without a delid will result in overheating temps.
-
Thinking about doing that with a APU laptop, barely struggling to run W7 decently even with an SSD.

What are the normal operating temps for a 7700k?
Clyne replied to The Manley Man's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
70-80C max load under stock clocks and voltage with a proper cooler. -
good mobo to over clock 4790k/4770k
Clyne replied to onemanarmy720's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
You can get 7700K's for around 250-300 on r/hardwareswap, it's currently 289.99 on ebay(sold by monoprice). A cheap option is to get an higher end Z170 board with the BIOS updated. Keep in mind that DDR4 is pricey. -
i wonder about the person who installed the aio...3 fans???

8700k No Compromise Gaming Benchmarks
Clyne replied to Thinkfreely's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
90C isn't that bad, could just tweak OC more with cache/voltages to lower temps.- 37 replies

8700K clock speed fluctuating constantly

It's probably power plan options in Windows, also try adjusting the power options and c states in BIOS.- 37 replies

Emulators generally want single-threaded performance, just go for Intel. http://www.legitreviews.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700-overclocking-best-ryzen-processor_192191/4

Gigabyte Aorus z270x Gaming 5 VS Asus Prime Z270-AR
Clyne replied to G4Frost's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I used the Z270X Gaming 5 before blowing up the board on my own fault, It was a decent board but it was my own fault that killed it. I prefer Asus's BIOS over Gigabyte due to their ease of use. It's just more layed out rather than basic info with gigabyte. If you can, I'd much rather just get a high-end Z170 board rather than medium-high end range Z270 boards. Their all exactly the same as Z170 and Z270 is basically a refresh, higher end boards provide better overclocking options and a much better phase/cooling solution. -

XPlane 11 is a game that rarely goes on sale, not part of this halloween sale but it's on sale.

You can do setting FFT settings in P95. OCCT gives an generalization if you don't set like AVX or so.
-
Generally 7700K's are able to do 4.8GHZ at 1.35v, I don't like Aida64 as a stress test since it doesn't really fully stress test it. Use OCCT or P95 with custom FPT settings. 1.25V with 85C is already an concern, you sure that its at 1.25V or it's 1.25V base and goes to around 1.3V?

Thanks to @done12many2 Delidded my 7700K and running at 5.1GHZ. Need to overclock my RAM even more...

I use VMWare and Wireshark at school...my classroom has most filters bypassed because I need to use Wireshark for assignments. Reddit, Steam, Youtube isn't blocked anyway, just play Garrys Mod when there's freetime.

Bring your own laptop and use mobile hopspot from phone, I have steam installed on school computers and teacher doesn't even care.

Can't get new motherboard to work
Clyne replied to Legacyxblood401's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Might want to try update to the latest BIOS anyway as they might have updated support for different types of RAM, I had "memory issues" when using my Z170 Deluxe for the first time. Use USB BIOS Flashback to update the BIOS. -
Can't get new motherboard to work

I'd try the clear MEM OK button to revert the memory to stock. -
