I have not heard anything particularly good about this show. And I am getting this feeling that it is a conglomeration of old ideas and plot points with a new coat of paint. Definite skip for me.

Why is boot time significant? Aside from the few cases where someone would be sitting by a computer and restarting numerous times, wouldn't it just be a minimal convenience at best? Please enlighten me.

I watched seven episodes. I am giving it points for the OP and not being set in high school, but otherwise it is rather unremarkable. Quite boring in fact. I am dropping this series. I think I'll watch one of the other options on that poll. Outlaw Star it is.
